Today's picks are brought to you by Spetty.   Total Bases: Ryan Braun PED’s or no PED’s, Braun is a lefty-masher. Since 2012 (I usually use 2013 through present to get a recent but valid reference point, but since Braun missed almost all of last year due to injury and suspension, I’m going to use 2012 through present in this instance), Braun has an other-worldly .450 wOBA and .331 ISO vs LHP. Tonight he gets to face off vs. Wade Miley, who at home in particular, is a total gas can. Though he does strike out a good # of RHB at a 8.72k’s/9, he also gives up 1.45 HR/9 as well. I can definitely see Braun leaving the yard tonight. David Ortiz Big Papi is one of the best hitters vs. RHP in the game, as evidenced by his .413 wOBA and .283 ISO vs RHB from 2013-present. Tonight he gets the wildly-inconsistent rookie Kyle Gibson. Anyone who has read a few of my articles know that I love to pick on rookie pitchers when they’re facing well-established sluggers who hit well against their handedness because rookies just tend to make more mistake pitches given the nature of what they are. For Gibson’s part, he actually hasn’t been too bad vs. LHB, especially in the power department as he only gives up .23 HR/9 inning so far this year, however, he also strikes out less than 3 LHB/9 innings, so he allows plenty of contact, which is all that a guy like Ortiz needs to get you a couple of hits, which is all you need for the #2 spot in the total bases category.   Hits: Victor Martinez VMart has always been a...

Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for ScoreStreak 6/11/14 DFSR has partnered with ScoreStreak: a new, innovative style of DFS play. You'll like it as much as we do.   Total Bases David Ortiz Our system has David Ortiz ranked as far and away the #1 option for total bases tonight, and for good reason. Since 2013, Ortiz has a .417 wOBA and .285 ISO vs. right-handed pitchers. Tonight he’ll be facing Josh Tomlin. Tomlin has been decent this year and has only a .261 wOBA vs. left-handed batters, however, when he does give up hits to them, it’s usually as home run as evidenced by his very-high 1.71 HR/9 innings to LHB. I think Ortiz is in a good spot to homer today, and with the short slate tonight, Ortiz is a solid option for total bases. Edwin Encarnacion E5 has been crushing the ball since early May, and tonight squares off against Kevin Gausman. Since 2013, Encarnacion has been an elite hitter vs. right-handed pitchers as evidenced by his .396 wOBA and .292 ISO vs. them. Gausman is a highly-ranked prospect and has shown flashes of brilliance in his brief major league career, however he does give up a .325 wOBA and 1.82 HR/9 to RHB since 2013, but note that this is a pretty small sample size. As I noted in my picks yesterday, inexperienced pitchers are more prone to make mistake pitches or hang pitches, and more times than not, elite hitters like Encarnacion deposit those mistake pitches into the seats. Jose Bautista would be my 2A today for all of the same reasons I like Encarnacion today, so it really comes down to a matter of preference between the two of them.   Hits Robinson Cano Cano has made a living hitting vs. right-handed pitchers, especially right-handed pitchers like Chase Whitley, who he’ll be...

I’d love to give you some MLB stats for Matzek over the past year or two, but ummm, he doesn’t have any, namely because he’s not a major-league pitcher. What I can tell you is that he has a 4.05 ERA, a 1.53 WHIP and has given up 1.09 HR’s/9 in AAA this year. I can also tell you that of the 8 hr’s he’s given up so far this year, 7 of them have come vs right-handed batters who assuredly aren’t as good of hitters as El Oso Blanco. From 2013 to present, Gattis has killed lefties to the tune of a .394 wOBA and .297 ISO vs lefties. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Matzek hang a pitch or two to Gattis which he’ll promptly deposit into the seats. Gattis is an easy pick and the clear #1 choice for total bases today with Upton out. Chris Davis It’s no secret that Davis has had a somewhat disappointing season thus far. It’s also no secret that he has tremendous raw power and can hit 2 hr’s on any given day and no one would be surprised. Today he faces off against Rubby De La Rosa, who has had all of two starts in the majors this season. He’s not a terrible pitcher by any means, but rookie pitchers are more prone to make mistake...

Today's picks are brought to you by new DFSR contributor Mike AKA Spetty.   Total Bases Chris Davis My rationale for picking Chris Davis as my #1 overall hitter in the total bases category is the same today as it was yesterday, and he delivered with a home run. To refresh your memory, from 2013 to present, Davis has a video game-ish .442 wOBA and .365 ISO vs right-handed pitching. Today, he faces yet another punching bag in Colby Lewis, who so far this year is allowing a .388 wOBA and .99 HR/9 innings vs. left-handed batters. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Lewis hangs a curveball to Crush tomorrow that ends up about 450 feet from home plate. Miguel Cabrera If you’ve been playing Daily Fantasy Baseball for awhile, one of the matchups you most look forward to exploiting is probably Miggy vs. a left-handed pitcher, as he’s been a lefty-masher his entire career. When facing a mediocre (at best) LHP like J.A. Happ, it’s just that much more enticing. Since 2011, Miggy has an elite wOBA of .422 and a very respectable ISO of .230 vs. LHP. Happ, on the other hand, has allowed a wOBA of .351 and 1.67 HR’s/9 innings to right-handed batters so far this year, so the matchup lines up very well for Miggy in the total bases category today, and he’s my #2 behind only Chris Davis today.   Hits Justin Morneau Morneau is...

Today's picks are brought to you by new DFSR contributor Mike AKA Spetty.   Total Bases Chris Davis Davis is my clear-cur #1 pick today. Though he’s started somewhat slow in the power department this year, from 2013 to present he still sports an elite wOBA and ISO .442/.365 vs. RHP. Nick Martinez has been pretty decent vs. left-handed batters this year as indicated by his 1.31 ERA,  however, his xFIP of 5.97 is a full 4.5 runs higher than his current ERA and portends that a huge regression is coming sooner than later. Roll Davis out with confidence today, you won’t be disappointed. Paul Goldschmidt Goldschmidt is primarily known as a lefty-masher, however what many don’t realize is that he’s actually a relatively equal-splits guy. So far this year, he has a .391 wOBA and a .233 ISO. While not elite, it’s pretty damn good, and considering many of our top options have injury concerns (Trout, CarGo etc), Goldy is definitely in play today (especially at Coors Field, where routine flyballs regularly turn into HR’s). He’s facing Jordan Lyles, who is average at best vs. RHB. Throw in the fact that he has a little extra motivation after being benched vs. lefty Jorge De La Rosa last night, and Goldy makes for a solid play.   Hits Daniel Murphy Murphy doesn’t have a ton of power, but fortunately that doesn’t matter in the hits category. The bottom line is that he’s...
