Pitcher Carlos Carrasco FD 10100 DK 12600 Opponent - CHW (Lopez) Park - @CHW FD - 39.41 DK - 25.83 Upon first glance of this slate, it doesn't take long to figure out who the top option is at pitcher. Even with a full slate on our hands, the pitching is pretty awful. There's a clear step down from the top dog and the field. Carlos Carrasco and the Indians will look to bounce back tonight after Danny Salazar pulled a Danny Salazar last night. Carrasco is far more consistent than Salazar and has the ability to go much deeper in games. He's been phenomenal on the season, sporting a combined .288 wOBA and a 10+ K/9. He faces off with the White Sox, who are bad. I don't care if they put up a million runs last night. This is an offense that has struck out +25+ of the time against righties and have posted a .297 wOBA since the break. The ballpark isn't great, but that's the only thing working Carrasco Carrasco in this spot. Vegas has the Sox projected for just under 3 runs and easily the lowest on the slate. In cash games, I can't find a reason to get cute. Lance McCullers This is McCullers first game off of the DL and 99% of the time, I would steer clear completely. This slate is just very weird. Both sites also have him priced down where you don't really need the typical Lance McCullers production. He's still a top 10-15 pitcher in baseball and threw 60 pitches in a simulated game a week ago. I expect around 80-90 and while that's typically a huge red flag, I think I'll take 90 Lance McCullers pitches against the Mariners than take a shot on any of these more expensive, riskier options. With that being said, McCullers is obviously far better in cash games where upside isn't as important. The Mariners aren't a bad offense by any means, but Safeco Field is one of the biggest parks in baseball and they have struggled there with a .299 wOBA. McCullers isn't in a perfect spot here, but nobody else is. Go ahead and take a shot and hope that he's fully healthy...

We've got you completely covered. Pitcher Main Carlos Martinez FD 9900 DK 11800  Opponent - SD (Perdomo) Park - @SD FD - 35.11 DK - 23.2 Ugly is the only word to describe pitching today. The same can be said for both slates, but at least we have a few decent options in the afternoon. Carlos Martinez will open it up here against the Padres in Petco Park. As we know by now, the Padres are absolutely abysmal at home. They held a .303 wOBA since the break and are the exact definition of a lifeless offense. Carlos Martinez is a guy who many thought would take a step up this year and become one of the best pitchers in the league, but he didn't. Instead, he's been basically the same pitcher he was last year, obliterating righties and slightly struggling against righties. He is a very strong number 2 and he has the upside for a CGSO any start. There aren't many ways to go at pitcher here and Martinez is definitely on the safer side. His price is fine and he shouldn't be more than 25% owned. Jake Arrieta FD 9900 DK 11100 Opponent - PIT (Kuhl) Park - @PIT FD - 28.89 DK - 19.4 If you think Jose Pirela is Babe Ruth or want to fade Carlos Martinez for whatever other reason, Jake Arrieta is a fantastic pivot and some may argue he's the better play. There's not much you can predict from narratives, but if you've watched the last couple starts from Arrieta, something has clicked. Over his last 4 starts, he's allowed 2 runs and struck out 24. His velocity is also back up 1.5 MPH, so maybe he was coasting through the early part of the season or had a nagging injury. The other possibility is his last 2 months have been fraudulent and he's just average. I'm not putting my money on that theory. The numbers are very skewed by his early struggles, but Arrieta has still posted a .286 wOBA and 8.56 K/9. Arrieta isn't the same Cy Young arm he once was, but he's a lot closer to it than some may think. The Pirates are far better against southpaws and Arrieta should have no problem throwing...

We've got you completely covered. Houston Astros If you've had a chance to sit down and watch Chris Flexen pitch, you're almost guaranteed to stack these Astros. It's just so clear that he's a few years behind and simply not ready to pitch at this level. He's getting pushed around from both sides of the plate and hasn't been able to find a pitch to lean on. This could easily ruin his career as coming up 2 years before you're ready and constantly getting pummeled is no way to progress. Either way, he has to face the Astros tonight. I'm sure he's sitting in a room right now scared out of his mind, as he should be. Flexen has posted a .416 combined wOBA and is allowing hard contact like a 60 MPH pitching machine does.  The 'Stros have been the 3rd best team in the league against righties and the absolute best at home. Jose Altuve and George Springer are musts and you can't have an Astros stack without either. After that, you can go anywhere. This lineup is very spread out and anyone from 1-8 has a shot of putting it in the stands. Whether you want to stack or not, I'd get some exposure to this Astros team that's implied to put up almost 6 runs. Main Stack - Jose Altuve, George Springer, Josh Reddick, Marwin Gonzalez Sneaky Sstack - Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Carlos Beltran, Yuli Guriel Los Angeles Angels When looking at the Angels, we have to look at them in a new light. Justin Upton and Brandon Phillips aren't world-beaters at this point, but they certainly make a difference over some of the dead bats that have been manning those positions. I'm looking at you, Cliff Pennington. Shan Robinson. Go home. Both Phillips and Upton will be most useful against lefties, whom they will see tonight. you also have Mike Trout, who's pretty good at hitting. He isn't at the Cliff Pennington level, but the strikeouts will come down one day. On a serious note, I wouldn't stack the Angels without Trout or Upton. You then...

We've got you completely covered. Lucas Giolito FD 6000 DK 7200 Opponent - TB (Andriese) Park - @CHW FD - 24.79 DK - 16.78 We touched on Mike Fiers on this early slate in the main picks article and he remains a very strong play. While it's tough to call Mike Fiers a strong play at any point, when you look at this slate, you'll fully understand. Contrary to the early slate with a boatload of options, we'll be deciphering through 2 or 3 average ones. Lucas Giolito has only started twice on the season, with 1 average and 1 dominant performance. He's one of the biggest prospects in baseball and will easily be a top 2 starter in a rotation, with the upside to be an elite ace. He has a 5-pitch arsenal that moves like crazy and has no rhythm. His only problem can come if he gets squeezed and starts walking guys. FOrtunately, the White Sox are bad. They K nearly 24% of the time and have posted a .306 OBA against righties. Giolito is right up there with Fiers as the top cash game play on the main slate. His price is very low and if you do read the main article, you'll see a ton of bats worth paying up for. Giolito will only help that cause and a 7 inning shutout is a real possibility. He may be a bit higher on my list than Fiers at this point. Madison Bumgarner FD 9800 DK 11900 Opponent - STL (Weaver) Park - @SF FD - 34.54 DK - 22.9 Well, of course. We looked at Chris Sale for this main slate in the main picks article and he remains the elusive top option in both formats. After Sale, you have Bumgarner, Severino, and Wood. Wood and Severino are fine, but I have my reservations. For one, Severino has had some issues with the Red Sox. They are a dominant offense and I'd rather not be cornered into rostering an arm against them. As for Wood, the match-up is phenomenal and he has insane upside. However, with the playoffs quickly...

We've got you completely covered. Pitcher Chris Sale FD 11200 DK 13800 Opponent - NYY (Severino) Park - @NYY FD - 40.25 DK - 26.47 As of now, it looks like Chris Sale will be manning the mound tonight. As I'm writing this, it's still listed as N/A on a couple of sites (MLB, ESPN), so just make sure he's confirmed before you plug in anything early. As long as he's out there, you who the top option on the slate is. Sale has faced the Yankees twice in his last 4 starts, going for a combined 14 innings and 21 strikeouts. While pitcher history against a certain team isn't typically something I care about, it is with Chris Sale. He has a tendency to struggle against the same teams over and over again. He has been the best pitcher in baseball this year and is only a few more starts from securing the Cy Young from Corey Kluber. Sale has been insane against both sides of the plate with a combined .241 wOBA and 12 K/9. At this point, we all know how great Chris Sale is. It just comes down to your personal roster construction and if you can fit him or not.  Personally, I think I can find enough value to make it work. In tournaments, however, I'll be fading in a few spots for some high-powered offenses. Mike Fiers FD 8100 DK 9100 Opponent - NYM (Flexen) Park - @HOU FD - 32.27 DK - 21.2 If you're playing on the "main". or early slate, Chris Sale isn't an option. Neither is Luis Severino, Madison Bumgarner, Alex Wood, or Luke Weaver. Instead, you'll have to choose from some very, very lackluster options. Ervin Santana will probably be right with Fiers for the most popular, which should tell you a lot about this crop. Fiers is our favorite at the price and he should be just fine. Just fine is exactly what you're looking for. We'll get to Fiers in a minute, but the real reason you want him is the Mets putrid lineup. The Mets are absolutely atrocious at this point and there's not much arguing who the current worst offense in baseball is. They've struck out 25.2% of the time over the...
