James and Doug are back to take an early look at cash games for a much more sane week 9 on FanDuel and DraftKings. We have a lot of good options at quarterback this week, and it really comes down to fitting one into the price tier you're looking for. Whether it's Watson, Murray, or Herbert, it's going to be tough to feel too bad about where you land. Running back offers similar chalk options in Dalvin Cook and Chase Edmonds, but the potential third slot leaves something to be desired. The guys discuss the pros and cons of options like David Johnson and Antonio Gibson, while allowing for the possibility that a cheap play could come along and change things up considerably. Wide receiver has a few great options in Julio Jones and Brandin Cooks, with a lot of question marks around who goes in that third slot. Do we roll the dice on a cheap Detroit wide receiver, or bite the bullet and pay up elsewhere? Tight end basically comes down to a decision between paying up for Kelce or punting to a risky, touchdown-dependent option. The best of those appears to be TJ Hockenson given Golladay's absence, but the guys throw out other names like Noah Fant or Evan Engram as well. Love the DFSR podcast? Quarterbacks Deshaun Watson FD 8300 DK 7100 Opponent JAXProj Points FD - 24.52 DK - 25.36 The Texans’ season hasn’t gone exactly to plan which is something of an understatement. They are 1-6, have already fired their coach/GM and there’s not a lot of hope on the horizon. But there is reason to suspect Watson can put up points in this matchup. He’s getting to face the worst defense in football in the Jacksonville Jaguars who rank 32nd overall and 32nd against the pass as well. This is the dream matchup for Watson who has been (fantasy-wise) awesome since O’Brien exited. Over the last four games, Watson is averaging 326 passing yards and 2.75 passing touchdowns per while also getting out for 25 yards on the ground. He’s right back to being one of the elite fantasy quarterbacks, something we didn’t see over the first few weeks of the season. Considering how bad the Jaguars are on D, this would be a tough fade in cash games. Kyler Murray FD 8600 DK 7800 Opponent MIAProj Points FD - 23.78 DK - 24.55 To be clear, I think Watson is the clear choice for cash games this week considering the matchup and just what he’s been able to do under the coaching regime. That being said, I think there’s going to be enough value elsewhere to almost have to pay up for one of these top-tier quarterback options. Murray definitely fits that bill this week. On the season, he’s the second overall FanDuel points-per-game scorer and gets it done in every phase of the game. He leads all quarterbacks in rushing yards (437) and rushing touchdowns (7) which helps make up for being merely middle of the pack when it comes to passing touchdowns. Miami has been an above-average defense on the season and is much better against the pass which gives Watson the matchup edge this week. But Murray has as high a floor as any player in the game right now and has been remarkably consistent to start the season. Justin Herbert FD 7900 DK 6800 Opponent LVProj Points FD - 21.1 DK - 22.13 Again, just to reiterate, I don’t want to pivot too hard off of Watson. But if you are looking for a slightly different direction to go at a bit of...
Injury analysis for week 8 of NFL DFS on FanDuel and DraftKings
Injury analysis for week 8 of NFL DFS on FanDuel and DraftKings Welcome to our weekly injury analysis article! It's an odd week with injuries, and a lot of decisions that might come down to the wire. Let's jump in. Now’s your chance to get DFSR PRO, which will give you access to our NFL and MLB optimizers and our new player lab! Get started for free by clicking the button below. Running Back Dalvin Cook FD 9200 DK 7500 Opponent GB Proj Points FD - 13.55 DK - 14.55 Cook has practiced in a limited fashion this week, but the Vikings' offensive coordinator has said that he "won't need a pitch count" this weekend against the Packers. Cook is still too expensive for my tastes, even in a good match-up with Green Bay, and Mattison is still there threatening to take some of the workload. I'll be staying away from Cook this week. Aaron Jones FD 8500 DK 7300 Opponent MIN Proj Points FD - 2.09 DK - 2.48 Aaron Jones has been ruled out for Sunday's contest against the Vikings, and after a week of seeing how the Packers plan to approach the running game without Jones Williams seems like an automatic cash game inclusion, even at the advanced price. He paid these prices handily last week, compiling 114 total yards and a touchdown on 24 opportunities against the Texans. Perhaps more importantly, he played 55 of the 60 offensive snaps, leaving AJ Dillon as an afterthought. Don't be scared by the increase in price whatsoever. Chris Carson FD 7600 DK 6200 Opponent SF Proj Points FD - 1.85 DK - 2.26 Carlos Hyde FD 5000 DK 5300 Opponent SF Proj Points FD - 13.37 DK - 15 Right now Carson is considered questionable, and Carlos Hyde is considered doubtful for Sunday's contest with the Niners. I don't think you want to run Carson even if he's healthy, but both of these guys missing Sunday's game would carve out a huge swath of opportunity for either Travis Homer or DeeJay Dallas. Right now I'd guess it will be more of a time share, though, and with some other value opening up I don't think this is where you ultimately want to land in cash games. Joe Mixon FD 7400 DK 6300 Opponent TEN Proj Points FD - 0 DK - 0 Mixon has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Titans, and like the Green Bay game, we know how the Bengals plan to approach this situation based on last week. Bernard was effective against the Browns, touching the ball 18 times for 96 yards and a score. He certainly warrants...

Quarterbacks Russell Wilson FD 8700 DK 7800 Opponent SFProj Points FD - 23.83 DK - 24.31 From a fantasy perspective, Russell Wilson has a couple of things going for him right now. First and foremost, he’s incredible. That’s the most important thing. But not too far behind is that because Seattle’s defense is an absolute sieve, he’ll always have a chance to keep his foot on the gas in the offense. Wilson is the number one per game DraftKings’ scoring player on the season so far, leading Kyler Murray by about 2.5 per. He’s also been remarkably consistent with the lowest coefficient of variation of anyone in the top group. The issue this week is the matchup against the Rams isn’t exactly ideal considering they allow the third-fewest opponent plays per game and have a top-10 defense. But the position is a bit problematic for a variety of reasons this week and you get so much safety with Russ. Ryan Tannehill FD 7500 DK 6800 Opponent CINProj Points FD - 21.13 DK - 21.93 It’s funny to say, but through six games this season, Tannehill is a Top-7 DraftKings per-game quarterback, even edging out Aaron Rodgers who is $800 more expensive ($700 on DraftKings). And this week Tannehill is handed one of the better matchups on the main slate against the lowly Bengals. Cincinnati made Baker Mayfield look like an absolute superstar in Week 7. They are a bottom-third defense and worse against the pass on the season. Tannehill has completed 69% of his passes this season with a 15:2 TD: INT rate. Plus, with AJ Brown back and fully healthy Corey Davis, Tannehill has a full complement of weapons. If you don’t want to spend all the way up for Russ, this is the first level pivot down. Derek Carr FD 7300 DK 5500 Opponent CLEProj Points FD - 18.58 DK - 19.21 Don’t look now, but Derek Carr is putting together a nice season. He’s completing 72% of his passes, good for third overall in the league with a respectable 13:2 TD: INT rate. He’s starting to take more shots downfield but is also a good intermediate passer that allows him to stay away from big mistakes. And yet he’s priced as QB19 (out of 22) on DraftKings this week. That is just a...

With a number of pieces of potential injury news still outstanding, this podcast contains a lot of "if this, then that" scenarios. The trickle-down effects of certain injuries are just enormous. To cherry-pick one example: if Michael Thomas sits, Alvin Kamara likely becomes the best running back play, but there also become solid cheap WR options in Tre'Quan Smith and Marquez Callaway. Having this kind of savings means more expensive plays at other positions become more relevant. If Emmanuel Sanders returns from the Covid IR, however, these plays become less relevant. And this is just an example of one team! There's a similar situation in Seattle, where both Carson and Hyde have questionable tags early in the week. This week is so nuanced that you're just going to have to hear the discussion in order to really wrap your mind around it. Be sure to keep an eye out for DFSR's injury article later in the week, since this week more than any other so far this season really requires you to have your finger on the pulse of multiple injury situations. There are other exciting possibilities to dream about this week as well. Could Tua explode onto the DFS scene? Should we be excited to run it back with Gio Bernard or Jamaal Williams, or has their price come up too much? The DFSR team discusses all this, and more. Love the DFSR podcast?
