Pitcher Early Robbie Ray FD 8700 DK 9000 Opponent - CIN (Matt Harvey) Park - CIN FD - 32.1 DK - 17.47 There isn't a whole lot of anything to love on the mound for the afternoon slate, so I have absolutely no qualms spending up for Robbie Ray, especially when spending up caps off at just $9K on DraftKings. Ray's season has suffered thanks to nearly two months spent on the DL, limiting him to just over 70 IP through 14 starts, but he has made the most out of each and every trip to the hill he has made. He's striking out a crazy 11.99 batters per nine, only three pitchers can best that number. The xFIP has been concerning, sitting at it's highest point in three seasons, but at 3.74 it still sits a full run better than his ERA. The matchup against the Reds isn't exactly a sure thing, the Diamondbacks open as -138 favorites, and the Reds are a top ten team against southpaws this season. Great American Ballpark has been just below average as pitchers parks go over the last three seasons, but still presents a significant upgrade from Chase Field. Ray may not scream safety, but he's far and away the best arm on the early slate, he's affordable, and he's got tons of upside potential. With that, I'll play him in all formats on the early set. Main Charlie Morton FD 10000 DK 11500 Opponent - SEA (Wade LeBlanc) Park - HOU FD - 40.16 DK - 21.44 For the second straight season, Charlie Morton continues to prove himself one of the more dominant arms in the majors. Going back to the start of 2017, Morton is 26-9 with a 3.24 ERA, 3.39 xFIP, 28.4K%, and a wOBA against of .293. His numbers in all of those categories are up this year over last. If he were in the National League, I'd call him a legitimate contender...

Daily Fantasy MLB Pitchers and Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 8/4/18

Daily Fantasy MLB Pitchers and Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings - 8/4/18 We already highlighted James Paxton, Corey Kluber, and Jose Berrios in our Saturday 8/4/18 picks article. We also highlighted the Nationals and Twins as a popular game stacks at their respective team price points. Here we will look at some other (possible GPP) considerations. Now’s your chance to get DFSR PRO, which will give you access to our MLB optimizer and our new player lab! Get started for free by clicking the button below. START YOUR FREE TRIAL NOW! First time with MLB? Be sure to read our free MLB Ebooks on building lineups, general strategy and more. We've got you completely covered. Pitchers Kenta Maeda FD 8600 DK 8300 Opponent - HOU (Lance McCullers Jr.) Park - LAD FD - 34.25 DK - 18.52 In the picks article, I gave you three top-tier pitchers, which can make things difficult on DraftKings, so while both of these guys I'm giving you here are geared more towards GPP's, you can use them in cash as your SP2 on DraftKings as well. Kenta Maeda, admittedly comes with a bit of risk, he's hosting the Astros in L.A., and we don't usually like to target Houston in cash games. Both teams are projecting for extremely low run lines though, and the Dodgers are slight favorites opening at -116. It's looking clear and warm tonight in Lalaland, with a light wind blowing out to center. While Astros are a top-five offense in the league, they are without two powerhouse bats in the form of Correa and Altuve; they're also in an NL park which strips the bat away from the DH and puts it in Lance McCullers hands. Maeda has been outright dominant through this season with a 3.38 xFIP, 10.89 K/9, 0.82 HR/9, and 1.24 WHIP. He hit a bit of a rough patch lately struggling against the Phillies and Brewers, and his hard hit rate is concerning, especially with the Astros in town. The price is quite appealing across the industry though, and he's an appealing SP2 with room for upside on FanDuel as well. Zach Eflin FD 8300 DK 8000 Opponent - MIA (Jose Urena) Park - PHI FD - 34.3 DK - 17.23 The Phillies will send Zach Eflin to the hill tonight against the visiting Marlins. Eflin isn't nearly as dominant as Maeda, with a 4.05 xFIP, but he has a remarkable 28.1% hard-hit rate that serves him well in Citizens Bank Park contributing to his 1.17 HR/9. He's striking out just under a batter per inning, but the key to this play is the matchup against Miami. The Marlins for lack of a better term,...

Daily Fantasy MLB Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 8/4/18

Daily Fantasy MLB Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings - 8/4/18 It's Saturday, and we've got a full day of major league baseball action. There's a double header going on in our nation's capital, and a couple of early afternoon contests, but for this article, we'll focus on the twelve game main slate starting at 7:05 PM EST. There's a lot to break down with some dominant arms on the hill, while several teams are projecting for big-time run totals. Where should we spend our salary? Let's take a look at the picks. Now’s your chance to get DFSR PRO, which will give you access to our MLB optimizer and our new player lab! Get started for free by clicking the button below. START YOUR FREE TRIAL NOW! Pitcher James Paxton FD 9500 DK 12900 Opponent - TOR (Marco Estrada) Park - SEA FD - 42.08 DK - 22.89 We have got a lot of lopsided matchups going tonight including three games opening with money lines of -200 or better. While the two guys below are even larger favorites, I opted to open this piece up with James Paxton because he has the best peripherals of the three. Paxton comes into the day with the fifth lowest xFIP in the majors at 3.05 and his 11.61 K/9 is the fourth highest. He also sees a strong matchup at home in a pitchers haven against a mediocre Toronto offense. The Jays have a .308 team wOBA, and 92 wRC+ against southpaws this season, and come into the day with the lowest implied run line. Paxton ran into some trouble in late June/early July before hitting the DL with a back issue, but if his last start against the Astros (7.0 IP, 3H, 0BB, 8K, 0ER) is any indication, he is back on track and ready to dismantle the Jays lineup. Paxton is a tremendous cash play all around, and I love that sub $10K price tag on FanDuel for some huge tournament upside as well. Corey Kluber FD 10400 DK 10100 Opponent - LAA (Felix Pena) Park - CLE FD - 39.77 DK - 21.81 Corey Kluber may not be the same guy he was last year. In the second half of 2017, CK posted a ridiculous 2.41 xFIP, with a .229 wOBA against, striking out over a third of the batters he faced and allowed a single earned run in his final four starts. While he hasn't been quite that dominant in 2018, with a 3.22 xFIP Kluber is still proving to be one of the...

Daily Fantasy MLB Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 8/1/18

Daily Fantasy MLB Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings - 8/1/18 The calendar has turned to August, and we've got six afternoon games and six evening games today in the major league for our Wednesday DFS action. With no true aces throwing we'll have to dig around to find the value on the pitcher's mound, but will that free things up with the bats? Let's break down the top picks as determined by our projection system and see where the pieces fall, shall we? Now’s your chance to get DFSR PRO, which will give you access to our MLB optimizer and our new player lab! Get started for free by clicking the button below. START YOUR FREE TRIAL NOW! Pitcher Early Sonny Gray FD 8500 DK 8500 Opponent - BAL (Alex Cobb) Park - NYY FD - 34.76 DK - 17.79 On the early slate our MLB projection system loves Sonny Gray on the hill. He's one of the top points per dollar options for the day, and though Carlos Carrasco projects for more raw points, Gray is significantly cheaper across the industry. The Yankees open as -265 favorites against the Orioles in the Bronx this afternoon. There is a chance of light rain. As of this writing, it doesn't look like anything we should be worried about, but keep an eye on the sky. The Orioles offense has been terrible this year with a bottom five team wOBA, and there is no chance of that changing now that they've sent their best hitter out west to the Dodgers. They strikeout 24.1% of the time against RHP which is good news for Gray who has struggled a bit in that category with just 8.55 K/9. It's an improvement over last season, but still not exactly elite. For the price, Gray is a fantastic play given the matchup, and will likely be chalk on the early slate of games. Main Rich Hill FD 10000 DK 9600 Opponent - MIL (Chase Anderson) Park - LAD FD - 34.77 DK - 18.89 The Dodgers host the Brewers in the last game of the evening. L.A. is a modest -158 favorite. Not overwhelming odds, but enough to consider Rich Hill as our top arm on the night set. Hill is coming off of seven shutout innings against the Braves and now comes home to spacious Dodger Stadium to take on a team possessing a bottom ten wOBA against left-handed pitching this season. Although the Brewers strikeout 24.1% of the time overall, they only strikeout 21% in the split. Hill has...

Daily Fantasy MLB Pitchers and Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 7/28/18

Daily Fantasy MLB Pitchers and Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings - 7/28/18 We already highlighted Justin Verlander and Patrick Corbin in our Saturday 7/28/18 picks article. We also highlighted the Rockies and Dodgers as popular game stacks at their respective team price points. Pitchers Mike Clevinger FD 9400 DK 10300 Opponent - DET (Francisco Liriano) Park - DET FD - 36.5 DK - 18.63 Clevinger is the most expensive arm available on the early slate, but at just over $10K on DraftKings, and well below on FanDuel it's pretty easy to spend up with little concern. With Houston, Boston, and the Coors game all being played later in the day, there is some nice value to be had in the bats during the afternoon as well. Clevinger takes the hill in Detroit this afternoon where it will be partly cloudy, comfortable, with a light wind blowing from left to right. The Indians are -204 favorites against a lineup projecting for just 3.7 runs that have combined for the second-fewest home runs, and sixth fewest runs scored in baseball this year. Detroit holds a .288 wOBA against RHP, and though they don't strikeout a ton, their 22.4 K% is slightly above average. Clevinger meanwhile has been having his best year yet. His ERA and xFIP both sit below 4.00 for the first time in his career, and though he throws most of his games in a park that heavily favors the hitters, he's limiting the long ball damage with a 0.70 HR/9 allowing just three in his last 37.1 IP and two of those came against the Yankees. Although the strikeouts have fallen to just 23.8% this year, Clevinger has put together outings of 10+ K's three times in his last seven starts and can be considered in all formats this afternoon. Rick Porcello FD 9200 DK 8400 Opponent - MIN (Jake Odorizzi) Park - BOS FD - 34.67 DK - 18.11 Rick Porcello has had a couple of rough outings this season, the roughest coming at home against the Blue Jays a couple of weeks ago. Toronto took him for eight runs in just two innings off of 11 baserunners. He bounced back nicely in his first game of the second half, throwing six shutout innings against the Orioles. In...
