Point Guard Tyrese Maxey FD - $8100 DK - $7400 Opponent - SAC Proj Pts FD - 35.13 DK - 37.42 Between players returning and below-average matchups, I am not at all into paying up at the point guard spot which has me taking a more balanced approach to the position. That starts with Tyrese Maxey who, partially due to Ben Simmons being out, has taken on a much larger role in his second year and has flourished with an offensive rating(124.9) well above average and has seen an uptick in usage averaging three more shots per game over the last week. He and the 76ers get a plus matchup tonight vs. the Kings who are one of four teams to rank bottom 12 in defensive efficiency and Top 10 in pace. A great matchup and overall situation put Maxey on my radar in all formats. Patty Mills FD - $4500 DK - $4500 Opponent - CLE Proj Pts FD - 27.23 DK - 30.2 For value, the system still loves Patty Mills who has played 30+ minutes in four straight games and started in each of his last three. The volume has also been on the rise as he has attempted 14 and 13 shots in the last two games and has been red-hot making 59% of them. He doesn't add much in terms of secondary stats nor is this a great matchup but the price is still low enough where a 5x floor is very attainable and still leaves room for upside. Mills is in play in all formats. Shooting Guard Donovan Mitchell FD - $8300 DK - $8500 Opponent - MEM Proj Pts FD - 45.45 DK - 48.48 There is a slight chance this game turns into a blowout but it's hard to ignore this spot for Mitchell who is one of the best two-way players in the game. He comes into tonight with the fourth-highest usage(33.7%) in the league and is contributing consistent secondary scoring averaging over rebounds and assists per game with nearly two steals per game, as well. Carolina Panthers QB/RB Stack Cam Newton FD 7500 DK 5100 Opponent WAS Proj Points FD - 18.02 DK - 18.93 Christian McCaffrey FD 10000 DK 8900 Opponent WAS Proj Points FD - 22.59 DK - 25.71 This week I will start with a stack we can use in all formats, at least on DraftKings where both Cam and CMC are underpriced. Newton was named the starter after taking first-team reps in practice this week and while he is priced among the Top 10 QB's on FanDuel, is near min price on DraftKings which opens up a ton of room for top running backs and pass-catchers this week. He scored in his first touch last week announcing to the world he was back and then threw for a touchdown later in the game. He is, in no way going to be 2015 Cam Newton so temper your expectations but at these prices I will take a 3x floor with 5x+ upside against a Washington defense that ranks dead last in total yards(314.4) and fantasy points to the quarterback position. I will be pairing Cam with Christian McCaffrey in an attempt to capture all of the Panthers touchdowns. Newton back does hurt the implied touchdowns but in terms of total yardage, it think it really helps open up the defense as Cam is a real threat to run, as well. Newton's best passing season, in terms of accuracy(68%), also came in 2018 which was McCaffrey's second season and first with 100+ receptions. This is a buy-low for one of the best running backs in the league who was nearly $10K on DraftKings earlier in the season. Point Guard Ja Morant FD - $10000 DK - $10000 Opponent - LAC Proj Pts FD - 45.74 DK - 49.58 His minutes were cut short in a blowout against Houston on Monday and he still put up 40+ fantasy points continuing his tremendous start to the season. He is averaging over two more shots per game(31.7% usage) while shooting 4% better and he has also added two more rebounds per game. The best news here is that this game is expected to stay close(MEM +1) while there are about four other potential blowouts on this slate. His price continues to rise but is more than worth it putting up 50+ fantasy points in over half his games. He is my top point guard and one of my top overall plays on this slate. Monte Morris FD - $5100 DK - $4700 Opponent - PHI Proj Pts FD - 24.93 DK - 27.11 The Nuggets are going to be short-handed again on Thursday which opens some value, especially at the guard position. Enter Monte Morris who has been money over the last two games without Barton dropping 15 of 25 shots from the field(60%) while adding 12 assists, nine rebounds, and four steals. The best part is that his price has barely gone up and he gets a plus matchup against a 76ers team that ranks 27th in defensive efficiency. Morris is my top PTS/$ value on this slate. Shooting Guard Darius Garland FD - $6000 DK - $6800 Opponent - GS Proj Pts FD - 31.86 DK - 36.2 Speaking of teams that are short-handed, the Cavs have been decimated with injuries but a frustrating situation to target value with inconsistent minutes and production. One player we don't have to worry about in that regard is Garland who has played 35+ minutes in nine straight games while putting up a fantasy average over 5x PTS/$ in that time. There is a chance this game blows out but someone needs to play and if choosing just one, I trust Garland more than any other Cavs players. The final regular event of the 2021 calendar year takes the PGA Tour to Sea Island, Georgia for the RSM Classic. Much like the other fall events, we get a weaker field this week with just one player(Louis Oosthuizen) ranked inside the Top 10(#9) and just 13 inside the Top of the World Golf Rankings. We also get back to a multi-course rotation this week at Sea Island Resort with golfers playing one round at each of the Seaside and Plantation courses on Thursday and Friday. Those golfers who make the cut(Top 65 & ties) will then play the final two rounds on the Seaside course. This is where most of my focus will be when setting up my stats model this week. The Seaside Course is a Par 70 with just two Par 5's so I will be heavy on Par 4 scoring and mid-iron approaches with nine of the 11 falling between 400 and 450 yards. You are also going to need a ton of birdies from your golfers as the winning score has been in the high teens consistently year after year. Morant has been on an absolute heater lately putting up 50+ fantasy points in four straight while averaging 28.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game. The third-year pro has improved in every single area this season and now gets an up-pace matchup against the Rockets(1st in pace). The only concern here is the blowout factor as the Grizzlies are 11 point favorites but I am not too concerned as he has been held under 30 minutes just once(29.5 minutes) all season. Fire up Morant in all formats. Dennis Schroder FD - $5700 DK - $6500 Opponent - CLE Proj Pts FD - 33.81 DK - 36.73 With Jaylen Brown expected to be out once again on Monday, we can go back to Schroder who has been terrific while getting some added usage. Over the last four games with no Brown, Schroder has averaged 20.8 shots and 26.5 points while adding an average of 4.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. Even in a low-scoring loss to Cleveland on Saturday, he managed to hit 5x value and that is what I have his floor pegged at tonight. All things considered, Schroder is in play for me in all formats, especially on fanDuel where the price still hovers below $6K. Shooting Guard Anthony Edwards FD - $8400 DK - $7900 Opponent - PHO Proj Pts FD - 39.6 DK - 43.36 This game has my full attention tonight and it starts with the fact it has the highest total(220.5) on the slate and is expected to stay close(MIN +4). The matchup itself for Edwards doesn't look great on paper as the Suns are a Top 10 defensive team but this isn't new for Edwards who has faced the Clippers and Lakers four times in his last six games.
