Pitchers Carlos Carrasco FD - P 10100 DK - SP 9800 Opponent - SF (Anthony DeSclafani) Park - NYM FD - 33.48 DK - 17.62 To say the Mets are absolutely loaded at starting pitcher would be a massive understatement as today's starter, Carlos Carrasco, is the #4 starter in the rotation. After a rocky 2021, he is off to a terrific start in 2022 giving up just five hits and one earned run over his first two starts while striking out 13(33%) and walking just two. All this on a pitch count of 72 and 82 but the good news is seeing it climb each start so we likely see around 90 tonight in a plus matchup against the Giants who are mid-pack in wOBA(.303) but are striking out at a 25.5% rate. The price is rising but Carrasco is still my top pitcher on this slate. Paul Blackburn FD - P 7600 DK - SP 8600 Opponent - BAL (Tyler Wells) Park - OAK FD - 31.51 DK - 16.93 At first glance, it was very close at SP2 for me between Joe Ryan and Paul Blackburn but I am leaning the latter here for multiple reasons starting with the elite matchup. Both pitchers face bottom five offenses but Blackburn faces an Orioles team that leads the league in strikeouts(28%) and 10% more than the Royals. The other thing I like with Blackburn here is when he isn't striking guys out he is creating a ton of ground balls(59%). All things considered, he is my top PTS/$ play at pitcher today. Catcher/First Base Vladimir Guerrero Jr. FD - 1B 4100 DK - 1B 5900 Opponent - BOS (Tanner Houck) Park - BOS FD - 13.79 DK - 10.38 Zack Collins FD - C 2700 DK - C 2700 Opponent - BOS (Tanner Houck) Park - BOS FD - 7.34 DK - 5.44 The Jays lead all teams in implied runs and with the amount of value at both the pitcher position and with the bats, it is not all that hard to build around Vlad in all formats. If not for Ohtani who was doing modern-day Babe Ruth things, Vlad would have won the MVP last year and is off to a hot start in 2022 as he went into last night with a .317/.364/.707 slash line with five home runs and 10 RBI. First things first, Luka is doubtful and is likely to miss a second straight game and that should lead to another heavy workload for Jalen Brunson. With Luka off the floor this season, Brinson seen around a 5% boost up to 29% usage and that carried over in game one as he had a team-high 24 shots and ended with 39.8 DK/38 FD points. The price remains the same so let's lock in that PTS/$ value in all formats. On the other side of that game one was Donovan Mitchell who led all players with 29 shot attempts finishing the game with 32 points and 12 rebounds+assists for 50+ fantasy points. It was a similar performance(fantasy points wise) to James harden but Mitchell comes at a discount of over $1,000 on both sites. This has him slightly ahead on my priority list tonight and safe in all formats. Will Barton FD - $5700 DK - $5500 Opponent - GS Proj Pts FD - 31.64 DK - 34.92 We have joked about Barton all season as the system always loves him but I truly agree here as he is sub $6K on both sites on a small slate loaded with top plays. He is also coming off one of his best games of the season in game one where he made 10 of 18 shots putting up 24-6-5 for 40.5 DK/38.7 FD points. This is still a tough matchup against the Warriors so I am not expecting a similar performance in game two but at these prices, at least in cash games, we don't need that ceiling game anyway. Pitchers Sean Manaea FD - P 9700 DK - SP 9100 Opponent - CIN (Nick Lodolo) Park - SD FD - 37.82 DK - 20.52 Manaea is one of many Athletics players shipped out before the 2022 season and the Padres couldn't be happier to have him aboard. He tossed seven innings of no-hit ball in his first start and while he picked up the loss in his second start, he struck out six and allowed just two earned runs on four hits. He now faces a Reds team that has lost six straight and eight of their last nine and ranks dead last in wOBA(.251) and wRC+(53) while striking out just over 26% of the time. With all the top pitchers in much tougher matchups, it is Manaea sitting at the top of my rankings in all formats tonight. Shane McClanahan FD 9200 DK 8100 Opponent - CHC (Kyle Hendricks) Park - CHC FD - 36.44 DK - 19.7 While he has yet to make it through five innings in his first two starts, there are a lot of positives for McClanahan starting with a 3.00 ERA and even better 2.52 xFIP. Better yet are the elite K stuff he is showing us as he has already racked up 15 strikeouts( 39.5%) and backed it up with an insane 18% swinging-strike rate. The Cubs' offense has been no pushover but to say they are overperforming is probably not too much of a stretch. The other plus of a shaky(ish) start is that the price has stayed in check making him one of our top PTS/$ plays on the mound tonight. Catcher/First Base Sean Murphy FD - C 2600 DK - C 4800 Opponent - BAL (Spenser Watkins) Park - OAK FD - 11.37 DK - 8.56 We almost never mention catchers in our articles but it has been impossible to ignore what Murphy is doing for the A's right now. He comes into tonight with hits in five straight including three multi-hit efforts, two home runs, and seven RBI. I have no issue paying the premium catcher price on DraftKings for multiple reasons starting with the balanced attack I am taking at pitcher, the value throughout the A's lineup, and the fact the A's get one of the best matchups on the board against Spenser Watkins. Pitchers Walker Buehler FD - P 10500 DK - SP 9700 Opponent - CIN (Reiver Sanmartin) Park - LAD FD - 35.36 DK - 18.81 As expected, pitching has been a roller coaster ride early in the season but I am starting to get more confident as teams are now entering the second time through the rotation. Despite being limited to 78 pitches, Buehler looked good on opening day going five innings, allowing two earned runs on just four hits while striking out five. He is now the biggest favorite(-250) on this slate, and by a wide margin, and facing a Reds team that sits second to last in team wOBA(.257) and wRC+(59) early in the season. Buehler is our top projected pitcher on this slate and a core play in all formats. Charlie Morton FD - P 9000 DK - SP 9300 Opponent - SD (Joe Musgrove) Park - SD FD - 33.5 DK - 18.04 Morton's first start of the season was eerily similar to Buehler's as he went 5.1 innings, gave up two earned runs, and struck out five on 78 pitchers. He is a power pitcher who has recorded a 29% K rate since the start of 2019 and backed it up with a 12.5% swinging-strike rate. It aligns well with the matchup as he faces a Padres team that is still without their superstar, Fernando Tatis Jr, and are scoring just 3.7 runs per game while striking out 24% of the time. There is most definitely a path to 90 pitches for both these pitchers so paying up for both on DraftKings is not out of the question but my favorite spot to use Morton is on fanDuel where he the 8th most expensive pitcher on the main slate. Catcher/First Base C.J. Cron FD - 1B 4100 DK - 1B 4500 Opponent - CHC (Justin Steele) Park - COL FD - 15.83 DK - 11.9 The Rockies are off to a hot start winning four of their first five games and they are back home tonight where it comes as no surprise they lead all teams in implied runs. They face a young lefty in Justin Steele who has struggled against power-hitting righties so that is where we will start things tonight. You would almost think it's another major with arguably the best field we have seen here as five of the world's Top 10 and 24 of the world's Top 50 golfers will tee it up at Harbour Town GL this week. It's not only the jacket color that changes this week as the course is a near-polar opposite of Augusta. Harbour Town is a Pete Dye special that mitigates distance off the tee and forces players to find certain areas of the fairway(or rough in the right places) if you are to have a shot at these very small Bermuda greens. With players finding fairways at an above-average rate compared to Tour average, it puts a ton of emphasis on approach shots and those players who are dialed in with their irons are the ones who find their way to the top of the leaderboard comes Sunday. With the course being a par 71, there is also one less Par 5 hole which pushes Par 4 scoring way up my weights in the model. Let's look at those top stats below and then get into the picks.
