This week the PGA Tour stays in Hawaii and heads from the Plantation Course at Kapalua over to Waialae Country Club in Honolulu for the 2023 Sony Open. The quality of the field drops significantly from last week but still includes seven of the Top 25 players in the world including defending champion Hideki Matsuyama. While the views are similar, the course is much different from last week's wide-open fairways and large greens. Waialae CC is a much smaller Par 70 setup that is 7,044 yards on the scorecard. Wide open is also not on the menu this week as the course is much more of a positional course, especially off the tee. This has accuracy much higher in my off-the-tee model than distance. Strokes Gained: Approach and Par 4 Scoring are going to be 1A/1B in my stats model this week. On the approach side, I will look at mid-iron Proximity ranges(125-150, 150-175) and with the need for accuracy, I will also look at Fairway Proximity. With the field accuracy below average at this event and word the rough has been grown out to around 3" the average GIR should remain low which is also going put more emphasis on Strokes Gained: Around the Green and as always, a hot putter can help solve deficiencies in any of those areas. Guards De'Aaron Fox FD - $8900 DK - $8700 Opponent - ORL Proj Pts FD - 42.51 DK - 43.53 This slate is a bit on the light side when looking at elite guards, especially with Ja Morant questionable. This leads us to a more balanced build at the position and it starts with Fox who has emerged from his slump in a big way. Over the last 12 games dating back to mid-December, Fox has averaged 27.7 points and 6.9 rebounds for nearly 45 fantasy points a game. Volume and usage is not an issue either as he comes into tonight having taken 20 or more shots in three straight and five of his last six games. At sub $9K prices on both sites in a plus matchup against the Magic, Fox is my top guard and in play in all formats. Dennis Schröder FD - $5800 DK - $5700 Opponent - DEN Proj Pts FD - 26.6 DK - 29.26 The Lakers are playing a bit short-handed right now with both Austin Reaves and Lonnie Walker out for a couple of weeks and Anthony Davis still out. This has obviously led to some monster usage from LeBron but he hasn't been the only one benefiting as Schroder has seen a big increase in playing time and usage playing 32+ minutes and taking double-digit shots in six straight games while shooting over 50% from the field. He is very shooting dependant but in a game with a total approaching 240 against the Nuggets 24th ranked defense, I am on board in all formats. Tyus Jones FD - $5200 DK - $4900 Opponent - SA Proj Pts FD - 35.25 DK - 37.85 This is a situation we will have to monitor leading up to lock as Ja Morant missed Sunday's game with a thigh injury and is questionable on Monday along with Demond Bane. As of writing this, I am going to assume the Griz aren't going to push their superstar in a game where they are 11-point favorites. That brings us to Tyus Jones who could be one of the top overall value plays on the slate once again. He got the start last night playing 34 minutes and while he took the 4th most shots, he was efficient making 7 of 15 for 21 points while adding six...

Guards Once again the guard we get Luka at the top of the guard position on a smaller slate but with a price quickly approaching $13K and with him dealing with a slight injury, I am going a more balanced direction tonight. Let's take a look. Klay Thompson FD - $7900 DK - $7900 Opponent - ORL Proj Pts FD - 38.45 DK - 42.57 We have multiple situations in which injuries are boosting other players and it starts with the Warriors guards as Steph Curry remains out of the lineup. Poole and Klay have taken on an incredible amount of usage in the offense but it's the latter who is not only cheaper but has been more consistent from a fantasy perspective. Going back to Christmas, Klay has averaged 26 shots a game and made the most of it with 24 or more real points and 40 or more DraftKings points in each of those games. He now gets a plus home matchup against the struggling Magic who have lost four of five while giving up an average of 121 points a game. Klay is my top PTS/$ guard in all formats. CJ McCollum FD - $8700 DK - $8500 Opponent - DAL Proj Pts FD - 40.38 DK - 44.71 It sounds like Brandon Ingram will finally return to the Pels lineup within the next week but until he does, we can comfortably roll out McCollum as a top guard, especially on a smaller slate. With Ingram out for over a month, the Pels managed to stay near the top of the Western Conference standings and a lot of that falls on McCollum who has been very consistent. Over his last 12 games, he has averaged 26.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 6.6 assists and has only tallied less than 40 DK points once in that time while averaging 45.6 per game. That balanced attack helps justify a rising price that is close to $9K on both sites and I will have exposure in all formats until Ingram returns. Markelle Fultz FD - $7200 DK - $6200 Opponent - GS Proj Pts FD - 31.63 DK - 33.55 There is a real lack of value on this slate which has led me to a balanced approach and Fultz fits that mould, at least on DraftKings where the price still has...

Guards Luka Doncic FD - $12800 DK - $12600 Opponent - BOS Proj Pts FD - 61.1 DK - 62.52 On a larger slate, I might not lead off with Luka as the price is approaching $13K on both sites but with just four games I think it's crucial to lock in the insane floor he provides. He comes into the night having scored 57 or more DraftKings points in seven straight while averaging a ridiculous 77.8 along the way. The matchup isn't at the top of my list as the Celtics are 10th in defensive efficiency but Luka is practically matchup-proof at this point and a great building block in all formats. Ja Morant FD - $10500 DK - $10400 Opponent - ORL Proj Pts FD - 48.09 DK - 52.13 While Morant, or any other player for that matter, doesn't quite have the ceiling of Luka he has been incredibly consistent and more importantly comes at over a $2K discount on both sites making it a bit easier to build around. On the season, Morant has posted 40+ DraftKings points in 27 of 32 games(84%) and 50+ in 17 of those which is greater than a 53% rate and a terrific floor for fantasy. We have him meeting or exceeding that 50-point mark tonight in a plus matchup against the short-handed Magic who rank 23rd in defensive efficiency. Fire up Morant comfortably in all formats. Mike Conley FD - $6200 DK - $5700 Opponent - HOU Proj Pts FD - 30.4 DK - 32.75 Value at the guard position is scarce, so let's turn to a game with the highest total on the slate. The Jazz are 5.5-point favourites with the highest implied team total on the slate and it comes down to matchup as the Rockets have struggled mightily on the defensive end(28th in efficiency) this season.  For Conley, his usage was limited upon his return to the lineup in mid-December but that has since changed as he has taken double-digit shots in four of his last five games but it's the assists(7.8 per game) that have given him safety for fantasy averaging 31.9 DK points per game during that stretch. Things start with a bit of a vacation event as all the winners from 2022 and those who qualified for the Tour Championship will tee it up at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii. The field of 39 players(Rory the only WD) will all play four rounds of golf as this is a no-cut event. While the event name has changed several times, the Plantation Course has hosted the previous year's champions since 1999 and the course has played as one of the easiest on tour with its wide fairways and very large greens. The length of the course definitely affects my model this week as I will be looking at guys who are long off the tee. I will combine that with golfers who have been strong with their irons during the fall season and for those who are a little shorter off the tee, I will be looking at a strong long iron game in their profile. I say this, as it is hard to eliminate anyone from your multi-entry player pool this week with the quality of the field and fact it's a no-cut event. The biggest factor in the winning score and reason for the variance over the years is the weather. Last year it was relatively calm throughout which led to the massive -34 winning score. Looking at the early forecast below, it appears we could see similar weather and another winning score in the mid -20's to low -30's....
