What We Know If Madison Bumgarner getting shelled by the Phillies didn't prompt you to quit DFS for good, welcome back. We've got a split slate today with three early games and a robust 12-gamer tonight, so let's get to it. Personnel Bummer here. Trevor Story is going to miss the rest of the season to undergo thumb surgery. His absence will leave a hole in the middle of the Rockies order and take away one of the most prolific offensive shortstops of 2016. Addison Russell is getting the day off for the Cubs. Javier Baez will be at SS and hitting eighth. Keep an eye on the Mets' lineup today. Yoenis Cespedes was slated to return to the lineup as the DH when the Subway Series moves to Yankee Stadium tonight, but he appeared to re-aggravate his quad injury last night after pinch hitting. Hanley Ramirez suffered a hand injury last night when he fell in the dugout after the game. We're awaiting word on the X-ray results as of this morning. Brandon Moss was activated from the DL yesterday and went 3-for-5 with a homer in his return to the lineup. Catcher prospect Gary Sanchez has been called up by the Yankees and will get the start as the Yanks face lefty Steven Matz tonight. Zack Cozart was scratched last night due to a finger issue. He's day-to-day for now. Josh Donaldson was back in the Blue Jays lineup last night after a one-game absence, but Troy Tulowitzki remained sidelined due to a thumb injury. Consider him day-to-day until further notice. Red Sox prospect Andrew Benitendi is expected to get his first major league start tonight after being called up yesterday. The lefty was a first-round pick in 2015 and put up big numbers in the minors. A.J. Reed was called back up yesterday by the Astros, but went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in his return to the bigs. Asdrubal Cabrera has been placed on the...

What We Know If you don't like making tough decisions, you're gonna hate this slate. But if you like having loads of arms and plenty of offenses to pick from, it doesn't get much better than what we're looking at tonight. Fifteen games, a handful of aces, plenty of mid-tier arms with upside, and some of the best hitting environments MLB has to offer (including Coors Field). Let's get to it. Personnel Yesterday's trading deadline featured a flurry of moves, so keep a close eye on the lineups this afternoon, as we'll see a slew of familiar faces in new places that could shake up the batting orders we're used to. The Brewers are expected to call up SS prospect Orlando Arcia today. He's a speedster who was slashing .267/.320/.403 at Triple-A this year. OF Andrew Benitendi will get the call-up for the Red Sox. A top prospect and a first-round pick in 2015, he slashed .315/.378/.532 in High-A and Double-A this season. Yoenis Cespedes is expected to get the night off as he continues to deal with a nagging quad injury. Yasiel Puig will reportedly be demoted to Triple-A today after the Dodgers failed to move the underperforming outfielder before yesterday's trade deadline. Josh Donaldson was a late scratch last night, but appeared as a pinch hitter and is expected to return to the starting lineup tonight. Ryan Braun sat again Monday night. He's now missed a week with a lingering abdominal/side issue. Jhonny Peralta is expected to be activated from the DL today. He'll likely be slotted at SS, taking the place of Aledmys Diaz, who has been placed on the DL. Troy Tulowitzki missed last night's game due to a thumb injury. He's day-to-day until further notice. Eziquel Carrera has been placed on the DL with an Achilles strain. Yangervis Solarte was activated from the family leave list and went 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs in his return to the lineup last night. Asdrubal Cabrera sat...

What We Know We've got a pair of early games, but the action picks up in earnest tonight with seven-game evening slate, replete with solid arms and a handful of offenses in good spots. The lineups for early games are starting to roll in, so let's get to it. Personnel Yoennis Cespedes and Jose Reyes are out today for the Mets. Reyes is dealing with an intercostal strain and unlikely to return before the weekend, while Cespedes' quad injury has flared up again. He's considered day-to-day for now. Denard Span was out of the lineup on Wednesday, but is expected to return tonight as the Giants host the Nats. Stephen Drew has been placed on the DL after missing the last week with what is being described as vertigo-like symptoms. Tournament Stacks Baltimore Orioles We need to start this by talking about hot/cold streaks and how much you believe in them. Actually, that's probably a bad way to phrase it. They definitely exist. Empirically, objectively, streaks are things that happen. What's more salient to this discussion is how much you believe in their predictive value. It's a tricky question. When you watch a guy (like Chris Davis, for example) struggle mightily for the better portion of two weeks, it's really hard to disregard that and keep plugging him in your lineups. But the numbers tell us there's no way to measure or predict when a guy will suddenly turn it around, become the guy he's always been, and start smashing a couple of homers per week. And since algorithms don't have eyes, our projection system is all about the numbers and shows no hesitation in recommending the Orioles here against Kyle Gibson, even though they've had the worst offense in baseball (in wRC+) over the last 14 days. Listen, if this is a fade for you, it's understandable. In fact, fading the Orioles probably puts you among a wide majority since we've all been burned by them recently, but that only...

What We Know Today's regular Wednesday split slate comes with loads of above-average arms and a decent number of offenses projected for solid showings. But choosing which ones to lean on might prove tricky. Read on for today's news updates, stacking recommendations, and more. Personnel Troy Tulowitzki is out of the lineup today. Darwin Barney is getting the start at SS and hitting eighth. Melvin Upton, who the Blue Jays acquired from the Padres prior to last night's game, is hitting clean up against his former team today. Hanley Ramirez is sitting today. Travis Shaw moves over the 1B, with Aaron Hill getting the start at third. Cameron Maybin is out for the fourth straight game today as he continues to nurse a rib injury. Yangervis Solarte has been placed on the family leave list and will be out for the next few days. Alexei Amarista has been recalled in the corresponding move. Trea Turner is making his second straight start in CF and hitting leadoff today as the Nats take on Carlos Carrasco in Cleveland. After making his MLB debut on Monday, Rockies OF David Dahl is now available on FanDuel, where he's set at $2,700. He's similarly cheap ($2,800) on DraftKings. Logan Morrison made an appearance as a pinch hitter last night and could be nearing a return to the lineup after a wrist injury sidelined him for the last week. Luis Valbuena left last night's game with a hamstring injury after taking a nasty spill while running to first in the second inning. He's day-to-day for now, but don't be surprised if he misses some time. Yasiel Puig was out again last night as he continues to nurse a hamstring injury. He's expected to make a return to the lineup soon, so keep an eye out for the Dodgers lineup, which could be coming out right around the time the early slate gets underway. Jake Lamb is expected to sit again tonight with a hand...

What We Know Technically, it's a split slate, but with only two games on the docket today, most of the action centers around the seven games tonight. As of this morning, Vegas has half of the teams in action tonight slated to score more than five runs, so it should be a fun slate ... as long as you find the right pitcher. Let's get to it. Personnel Corey Seager is sitting again today as he battles a flu bug that's hit a number of MLB clubhouses in the last week. Chris Davis has said he intends to play today after sitting the last two games due to illness. Keep an eye out for the lineup; the Orioles were severely shorthanded last night and could be missing Adam Jones today, as well. He was removed from last night's game due to back spasms. Tournament Stacks Colorado Rockies If you're looking for off-the-board picks, I'll have to admit this ain't the place today. Though we actually like a lot of the offenses tonight, if we've got to whittle it down to two, the choices look pretty clear. Not surprisingly, we're starting in Coors Field, and while even the Braves bats are in play today, the Rockies look like the safer choice. That's not to imply there's no risk here. Colorado has struggled this week with hard-throwing righties, and they're getting another one tonight in Mike Foltynewicz, who held them to four hits in seven innings last week in Atlanta. "In Atlanta" are pretty important words in the preceding sentence, however, as Coors Field changes everything. And though Foltynewicz has shown signs this season that he's going to live up to his acclaim as a prospect, he's also prone to the occasional barnburner (see four homers in 5.2 IP at Philly earlier this month for proof). Also working in Colorado's favor is the fact that Atlanta's bullpen is one of the worst in baseball, so even if Folty limits the...
