Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 9/22/16
Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings - 9/22/16 We've got a 10-game slate tonight, which is about as good as we could hope for on a Thursday, and while pitching options are limited, we've got a handful of intriguing offenses that should pair well with whichever ace you choose. Let's get to it. In case you didn’t notice, we just released our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season. You can grab a free trial to test out yourself. START YOUR FREE TRIAL! PITCHER Justin Verlander FD 10000 DK 12400 Opponent - MIN (Santana) Park - @MIN FD - 37.25 DK - 24.79 If you want an ace-caliber arm tonight, there are really only two choices. Our numbers are leading us to Verlander over David Price, and it's really not that close. At least from a raw points perspective. Value-wise, we could maybe see going with Price on DraftKings, because he's significantly cheaper there, but for cash games, give us the guy in the safer matchup. And Brian Dozier's September heroics notwithstanding, we'd rather pick on the Twins than the Orioles in Camden Yard. Verlander hasn't quite recaptured his peak form, but he's coming close enough in 2016. At 9.7 Ks/9, his strikeout numbers are actually at their highest point in seven years. He's also giving up more homers than ever before, so there's some risk here, too. But we're not all that intimidated by the Twins lineup. Despite a modest uptick over the last month or so, they remain a below average offense against RHP (96 wRC+). Seth Lugo FD 7700 DK 6700 Opponent - PHI (Morgan) Park - @NYM FD - 30.75 DK - 19.8 If safety and strikeouts aren't really your thing, you could consider a flyer on Lugo. He doesn't miss a ton of bats (6.5 Ks/9), but in limited run this year he's done a solid job of keeping the ball in the park. He's actually due for some regression there, which is a big part of why his xFIP (4.49) is more than two runs higher than his ERA (2.35), but he's facing the Phillies, so he can probably keep the good fortune rolling for at least another start. Don't tell James Shields about this, but the Philadelphia offense is terrible. They rank last in MLB in overall wRC+ and wOBA and are only marginally better against RHP. They're slightly, um,...

Harper took a week off in early August to rest a neck ailment and went on a tear when he returned, but has struggled mightily in September. Brandon Crawford left last night's game with a finger injury. X-rays came back negative, and he's considered day-to-day for now. Aledmys Diaz missed last night's game, and the word is he's having issues with his arm strength after missing six weeks with a fractured thumb. He's considered day-to-day, but could return to the lineup as early as today. Daniel Murphy is expected to return to the Nationals lineup tonight after sitting for three straight games with a leg issue. Khris Davis sat last night due to illness. Consider him day-to-day. Ryan Braun missed yesterday's game to be with his wife has she gave birth. He could return tonight. Ian Kinsler missed last night's game as he continues to deal with the after effects of a concussion. It sounds like he could miss another day or two. Victor Martinez was out last night with a knee issue. Consider him day-to-day. Dustin Pedroia took last night off to deal with a sore knee, but is expected to return tonight. Jacoby Ellsbury is expected to return from a knee injury tonight. Ryan Howard sat last night and is expected to be on the bench again tonight with a knee issue. Brock Holt is expected to miss the next couple of games due to a death in the family. The Twins have announced that Eddie Rosario will miss the remainder of the season with a broken thumb. The Padres are calling up highly touted prospects Hunter Renfroe and Manuel Margot for the stretch run. It'll be worth monitoring the San Diego lineup to see when they make their MLB debuts. Tournament Stacks St. Louis Cardinals You can pretty much count on at least one team showing up here anytime we get Coors Field baseball, and as far as our algorithm is concerned, the choice is obvious tonight. Jorge de la Rosa had actually put up a couple of decent seasons heading into 2016 (at least for a guy making half his starts in Colorado), but he's regressed in a few very important ways this year. If you're a frequent reader here and know the kind of stats we value, you can probably already guess where that regression came: strikeouts, walks and homers. Those are the three numbers most under the direct influence of pitching performance, and when they're tanking across the board, it's a sure sign something ain't right. It could just be that de la Rosa is getting old, but the root of the problem isn't our concern; we're just looking to take cold-blooded advantage....

His status going forward is uncertain. Eduardo Nunez missed his second straight game due to a back issue on Tuesday. He's considered day-to-day. Brandon Belt was out last night due to illness. There's been no update yet regarding his status for today's game. Andrelton Simmons has missed the last two games with a hand injury and is considered day-to-day for now. What We Know Personnel Matt Carpenter was removed last night after experiencing tightness in his back. Consider him day-to-day for now. It sounds like A.J. Pollock is going to remain on the shelf of the time being. He missed last night's game and the Diamondbacks are reportedly in no rush to get him back on the field as they play out the string. Miguel Sano left last night's game with a back issue and is expected to be out for a couple of days. Andrew Benitendi, who has missed the last three weeks with a knee injury, could be activated today. Justin Upton was removed last night with a calf injury. Consider him day-to-day. Starling Marte missed his seventh straight game on Monday as he continues to nurse a back injury. He's expected to return to the lineup soon, but there's no definitive timeline right now. Didi Gregorious could be getting another day off tonight to deal with some lingering, but relatively minor issues. Marcel Ozuna has a bruised knee after being hit with a pitch last night. He's considered day-to-day. Steven Pearce suffered a forearm injury last night and should be considered day-to-day until further notice. Tournament Stacks Toronto Blue Jays We've got the Blue Jays at home against a homer-prone lefty, so this one's pretty much automatic as far as the projection system is concerned, but probably less so for us humans who have been burned at times in this same scenario....
