Hey, I'm sure we've recommended Braves stacks at some point in the past, but if we have, the memory has been sufficiently suppressed. But here we are, with the Braves sporting the highest implied run total of the day. Could it be the stadium driving up the expectations for offense? Three games into its existence, Sun Trust Park is still a bit of a mystery, so probably not. With Jered Weaver, on the other hand, we know exactly what we're getting, and really, you need look no further than the Padres' righty to figure out why we (and Vegas) believe in the Braves' bats today. His xFIP has been hovering on the wrong side of 5.00 since the beginning of the 2015 season, and is somehow even worse vs. lefties. That puts Freddy Freeman, Inciarte and Nick Markakis squarely in play, even though the latter two aren't exactly GPP regulars. CLEVELAND INDIANS If you just can't see rostering multiple Atlanta bats with limited HR upside, congratulations on your shrewd orthodoxy. Perhaps we can interest you in some Cleveland bats. Not that Michael Brantley is anybody's idea of a slugger, but we know this is a dangerous lineup. The 1-5 hitters present a tantalizing mix of high floor and respectable upside, and Kyle Gibson won't do much to lower either. In fairness, Gibson isn't terrible. He's actually around league average in most regards, but he doesn't strike guys out and the ability to miss bats if vital to success against Cleveland. They're loaded with switch hitters and lefties, and a year after posting the sixth-best wRC+ in baseball against RHP, they're in the top five in the early going of 2017. They can create offense in a lot of ways, and Vegas has them pegged to push across the second-most runs on tonight's slate. As usual, it's the top five hitters we're highest on, but Lonnie Chisenhall (.784 OPS vs. RHP last year)...

We've got you completely covered. Pitchers Danny Salazar FD 9800 DK 10300 Opponent - MIN (Gibson) Park - @MIN FD - 34.17 DK - 22.58 There's not an awful lot of obvious upside at pitcher today; Salazar and the mercurial Robbie Ray are perhaps the only exceptions, and the Indians' 27-year-old righty has the best xFIP since 2015 on the slate, so we're fine rolling him out in tournament lineups, despite a less-than-ideal matchup with the Twins. Salazar has nice swing-and-miss stuff, posting a career 10.18 K/9 in nearly 500 big-league innings. But command/control has been an issue since the beginning of last season, and that's worrisome against Minnesota. We're obviously still very, very early in the season, but the Twins are working counts like nobody else so far, posting a MLB-best 12.5 BB% through the first two weeks. That could spell a short-ish outing for Salazar, even if he's on his game otherwise. The Twins also aren't striking out much right now, so, like we said, less-than-ideal. That's why we're probably avoiding Salazar in cash games, but in tournaments, the possibility of double-digit Ks is just too much to fade completely on a slate like this one. Jharel Cotton FD 7000 DK 8200 Opponent - TEX (Griffin) Park - @OAKFD - 30.27 DK - 19.93 We're getting into speculative territory here, because the big-league book on Cotton is not a thick one. He's got just seven starts under his belt, and while he's been solid, the sample size just isn't sufficient yet to feel truly confident that we know what we're dealing with. Here's what we like, though: he's a fly-ball pitcher in Oakland. Not getting grounders in kind of a double-edged sword. On the plus side, it typically yields low BABIPs. The danger is that more fly balls means more homers, but that's where the park comes into play -- only three venues in baseball rank lower for HR factors than Oakland Coliseum. So fly-ball guys who limit hard contact actually profile really well for the A's. And though Cotton has only displayed average strikeout stuff so far, the minor league track record suggests there's...

We've got you completely covered. CINCINNATI REDS We think either side of this game is in play, but we're siding with the Reds, mostly due to Tommy Millone's extreme fly-ball tendencies. There are complications here, though. Billy Hamilton and Jose Peraza occupy the top two spots in the lineup, and you pretty much have to forego the hope of a home run (even in the Great American Ballpark) when you roster them. That's fine for one guy; for two, I'm not so sure. Of course, the flip side is that if they get on base, they're a good bet to run, so it's not like you're not punting upside or anything. Also, there's Joey Votto. He's off to a slow start and will be facing a lefty in this one, but he owns a .390 lifetime wOBA and .200 ISO vs. LHP, so we're not too worried about him either. But the matchups start to really look juicy after that. Adam Duvall and Eugenio Suarez each have .200 career ISOs against southpaws, and Zack Cozart's was up to .225 in the split last year. All three have also opened 2017 on fire, and while we don't put much stock in the predictive value of hot streaks, all things being equal, I'd rather have a hot hitter than a slumping one. MINNESOTA TWINS Weather could be an issue here, so that'll need to be monitored. But if the clouds clear, there's a lot to like about the Twins facing 25-year-old non-prospect Dylan Covey. The Rule 5 pick has never pitched above Double-A and the minor league numbers are mostly pedestrian. Scouting reports peg him as a groundballer, which isn't ideal, but he hasn't missed many bats in the minors, and that's a big deal against guys like Brian Dozier and Miguel Sano. They're the two obvious plays if you're stacking Twins, but don't skip over Max Kepler if he's in the two hole. He finished 2016, his first full year in the bigs, with a .215 ISO vs. RHP. We've got you completely covered. Pitchers Stephen Strasburg FD 9900 DK 10800 Opponent - PHI (Nola) Park - @WSH FD - 39.06 DK - 25.64 With the amount elite pitching available today, you're probably gonna have to pay up to keep up. And if you're dipping into the all-day slates, Strasburg makes a very interesting pivot off of Clayton Kershaw and Noah Syndergaard. That's not to imply that he's a safe play, because for a guy with this kind of talent, he can get blown up from time to time. But he also has ace-caliber stuff, with a career K/9 of 10.50 and a 2.84 xFIP. He'll be facing the Phillies today, who are a patient bunch, but getting deep into counts can elevate the number of punch-outs, and in the early going of 2017, the Phils have one of the league's highest K% (24%). Last season, they were among the worst offenses in baseball vs. RHP, with the fifth-highest K% and second-lowest wRC+. The lineup appears marginally improved this year, but not the to point that we're afraid of them. So while he's less of a sure thing than Kershaw, the similar upside and savings make him our first choice for all-day tournaments. Felix Hernandez FD 8900 DK 8600 Opponent - TEX (Perez) Park - @SEA FD - 34.14 DK - 22.44 Again, I'm not sure how wise it is to skimp on your SP today, but I don't think that's what we're doing here. I think we're getting something resembling 2015 King Felix at something closer to his 2016 prices. Last year, it looked like all the mileage Hernandez had accumulated was finally catching up to him. He endured the worst season of his career (4.45 xFIP) as his velocity and Ks continued to dip, paired with a dramatic rise in walks. Early in 2017, the velocity isn't all the way back, but he has regained a tick, and even though the results through his first two starts aren't great, there's a lot to be encouraged by -- mostly his 12:0 K:BB ratio through 11 innings. If he's got his command back, Hernandez...

We've got you completely covered. MILWAUKEE BREWERS Early in 2017, the Brewers are looking like a pure boom-or-bust play. And so far, they've mostly busted. They struck out more frequently than any team in baseball last year, and their rate is even higher (29.9%) through the first 10 days of 2017. But they've also got plenty of pop in the lineup, and that could play well in Cincinnati, which consistently ranks among the MLB's most homer-happy venues. But I think we have have buried the lead here, and that's Bronson Arroyo, the 40-year-old soft-tosser who last week made his first MLB appearance since 2014. The intervening years appear to have taken another couple of ticks off of his already-sluggish fastball, and he was lighting up the gun at about 84 mph as the Cardinals smacked six hits, six runs and a pair of homers. He's also never been able to miss bats, and the last time he averaged more than 6 Ks/9 was 2008(!). In other words, for a team prone to swinging from the heels, this is a dream scenario, and we see massive upside for Milwaukee's 1-6 hitters. DETROIT TIGERS The Tigers won't have a favorable home run park working in their favor today, but they will have Phil Hughes, and sometimes that's just as good. Hughes is an extreme fly-ball pitcher who over the last couple of seasons appears to have completely lost the ability to make guys miss. In 2015-'16, he averaged less than 5.5 Ks/9 while allowing 1.68 HRs/9. Compounding the potential trouble with the Tigers, he's historically had his biggest HR problems vs. righties, and the Tigers are loaded with right-handed bats who handle RHP quite well. They won't have Ian Kinsler at the top of the lineup today, but there's plenty of potential in a stack of Nick Castellanos (.214 ISO vs. RHP last year), Miguel Cabrera (.258), Victor Martinez (.196) and Justin Upton (.225).
