Welcome back golf fans. This week is another two-event week but for this article, we will be focusing on WGC Dell Technologies Match Play from Austin Country Club. While the event dates back to 1999, it has only been held here at Austin CC since 2016 so that is the data we will be using in terms of course history and the stats model.

Speaking of that stats model, I am keeping it pretty simple this week and looking for players who are trending in terms of ball striking, especially with the irons, par 4 scoring, putting on Bermuda greens, and making birdies. More importantly this week, in terms of strategy, is optimizing your lineups based on the complete bracket and possible outcomes. I go over some of this strategy in my DFS PGA Preview video Monday night. Check it out then and then below, I will be going over a few of my core plays for this event.

    Top Targets

    Jordan Spieth
    Seed (#11)
    Vegas Odds (33/1)
    Draftkings ($8,900)

At first look, it is a fairly tough group with Scott, Rose, and Keegan but where Spieth holds the advantage is with his experience. He has played the event here at Austin CC each ear it has hosted and while he has only made it through the group stage twice, he has a terrific 9-3-3 group record. The ball-striking(19th in this field & +.9) has been good over the last 12 rounds and while the putter has been up and down we know he hot he can get with the flat stick and that could be huge this week.

His Biggest test to get to the semis: Viktor Hovland who I will also have exposure to(non-Spieth lineups) in this part of the bracket

    Alex Noren
    Seed (#50)
    Vegas Odds (55/1)
    Draftkings ($7,800)

Noren gets an even tougher group as he is one of three players who have made through the group stage multiple times at this event. What stands out with Noren is that he is 8-1-0 in the group stage in his three appearances, making it through twice and narrowly missing in 2019. He comes in this year with terrific form having made five straight cuts with two Top 5 finishes and has gained strokes on approach in all of them and 10.4 strokes over his last two events. He is one of my top PTS/$ values in this event.

    Max Homa
    Seed (#30)
    Vegas Odds (55/1)
    Draftkings ($7,700)

While he didn't make it through group stage last year, Homa went 2-1-0 in his debut and comes in this year with near-elite form. He has finished T17 or better in four straight and five of six events in 2022 and has gained 8.4, 7.3, 3.2, and 6 strokes ball striking over his last four events while gaining strokes around the green in three straight. He will have to get through former champion Dustin Johnson but I like his path to at least the quarterfinals.

    Ian Poulter
    Seed (#59)
    Vegas Odds (100/1)
    Draftkings ($6,600)

No golfer has been hotter than Scottie Scheffler and while I will have some exposure I love the punt value with Ian Poulter in this match play setup. I mean, we all know about his tremendous Ryder Cup record and he returns to this event for the fourth time having made it through the group stage twice with 8-1-0 group stage record and 9-3-0 overall record. What I like most is that, at his price, getting through group stage is definitely enough for him to hit value.
