GOALIE
Martin Jones FD - $9200 DK - $8200
Opponent - ANA
Proj Pts FD - 14.26 DK - 3.56
There are a few decent options at the goalie position today, but there are a couple of choices that stand out above the rest for me. From a safety perspective, it starts with the Sharks net-minder who is about to face the Ducks and their 18th ranked offense who will be playing their third game in four nights. Jones has won his last four home games and he hasn't allowed more than two goals in his last seven games, he has a .927 save %, a 2.12 GAA and he's tied for 9th in the league with six wins. The Ducks will be exhausted today and I can't see them doing much at all on offense and Jones is my favorite goalie today in cash game formats.
Jonathan Quick FD - $9300 DK - $8300
Opponent - NAS
Proj Pts FD - 16.03 DK - 4.01
It's a good strategy to pick on teams that are about to play their third game in four nights, especially when you're picking on them with an elite goalie like Quick. When it comes to goalies with more than five starts this season, the American tender is tied for 2nd with a 1.99 GAA, 2nd with a .939 save %, and he has a terrific record of 8-2-1. The Predators are ranked third worst in goals scored with 2.54 per game and the Kings allow the fewest goals in the league(2.08). Quick is an elite play in all formats.
Also Consider: Matt Murray (Pit) (GPP Only)
CENTERS
Tyler Seguin FD - $8400 DK - $7500
Opponent - BUF
Proj Pts FD - 14.94 DK - 4.44
Could you imagine how many points this superstar is going to have when the Stars start scoring more goals? He leads the league in shots on goal with 58 and he's tied for third with four PP goals. He has a PP goal, an assist and five shots on goal in his last two games and he has point in 11 of his last 13 games. Tonight, the Sabres and their awful fourth worst defense travel to Dallas, so look for Seguin and his teammates to have a hay day. Fire him up in all formats.
Stack with: Jamie Benn, Alexander Radulov
Sean Couturier FD - $6600 DK - $6500
Opponent - COL
Proj Pts FD - 12.13 DK - 3.39
This young man has been one of the most surprising players so far this season and he just keeps turning heads night in and night out. He was promoted to the #1 line before the season started and that has been the spark that he needed. The young Canadian is tied for 4th in the league with 17 points and 5th in goals with nine. In his last three games he has two goals, two assists and 10 shots on goal and in his last six games, he has five goals, five assists and 20 shots on goal. Couturier is a solid play in all formats against a Colorado squad who is ranked 18th defensively.
Stack with: Jakub Voracek, Claude Giroux
Christian Dvorak FD - $4100 DK - $3600
Opponent - CAR
Proj Pts FD - 9.53 DK - 2.75
I love searching for value and this guy stood out near the bottom of the player pool on both sites. Dvorak plays on the Coyotes #2 line (which actually played more than the #1 line last game) and #2 PP and he has two goals, an assist, nine shots and four blocks in his last three games. This should be a high scoring game with two bottom 10 ranked defenses going at it, so save some money and lock this guy into your lineups in all formats.
Stack with: Max Domi, Christian Fischer
WINGERS
Blake Wheeler FD - $7600 DK - $7300
Opponent - MON
Proj Pts FD - 13.98 DK - 4.09
"Captain Wheels" has taken the Jets under his wing and they have turned into a pretty darned good hockey team. Tonight's opponent, the Montreal Canadiens, are an absolute mess right now as they've given up 13 goals in their last three games and they're ranked 29th in the league with 3.92 goals allowed per game. The American winger has three goals and four assists in his last three games and he has 24 shots on goal in his last six games. Wheeler plays on the #1 line and the #1 PP unit for the Jets and he is one of my top overall plays at any position this evening.
Stack with: Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor
Patric Hornqvist FD - $5900 DK - $5200
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 11.76 DK - 3.49
The veteran Swedish forward was promoted to the top line for the Pens two games ago and he has not disappointed as he has two goals and a whopping 13 shots on goal in those two games. He also plays on the #1 PP unit and as long as he keeps his spot at the top, at these cheap prices we need to plug into our lineups in all formats regardless of the opponent.
Stack with: Sidney Crosby, Connor Sheary
Yanni Gourde FD - $3600 DK - $4200
Opponent - CBJ
Proj Pts FD - 8.95 DK - 2.55
I was surprised to see that Tampa Bay's #2 line has played 23% of the time in the last three games while their deadly #1 line has played 27%. That's pretty even and that opens up a ton of value for the Lightning. This young man has a PP goal, a short-handed goal, five shots and three blocks in his last two games while averaging 19 minutes of ice-time and he has three goals, five assists and 21 shots in his last eight games. With teams exerting most of their energy trying to shut down the Lightning's top line, the #2 line will have a ton of opportunities and for me, it starts with Gourde in all formats.
Stack with: Brayden Point, Ondrej Palat
Also Consider: Vladimir Tarasenko(STL)
DEFENSEMEN
Ivan Provorov FD - $4500 DK - $5200
Opponent - COL
Proj Pts FD - 11.24 DK - 3.31
Man crush alert. Chris and I both like this guy because he keeps making us look smart when we write about him. He's turning into a star very quickly in his second season in the NHL and although he didn't record a point last game, he still finished with 6.0 DK points and 19.2 FD points and he fired 2 shots on goal and blocked a very painful 10 shots. That's unreal and in his last three games the young Russian has three assists, 10 shots, and 14 blocks and he is 2nd in the league with 41 blocked shots. At these prices, Provorov is an elite play in all formats.
Tim Heed FD - $4200 DK - $4000
Opponent - ANA
Proj Pts FD - 10.48 DK - 3.06
You may not have heard of this guy but he won't remain unknown for much longer as the Sharks already have him playing on their #1 PP unit beside Brent Burns. He has a PP goal, two assists, five shots and four blocks in his last two games while averaging 20.5 minutes of ice-time. Heed is currently way too cheap for this kind of production so lock him into every one of your lineups in every single format today my friends.
Also Consider: Joel Edmundson
