Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 2/9/17

Welcome back for another night of daily fantasy hockey with DFSR. I hope you spent your Wednesday building PGA or NBA lineups as the hockey slate was a bit a different with just one game. The sites tried getting us to play a two-day slate which was viable on Draftkings but risky if you play on Fanduel with no late swap.  Either way, it's over now and we can move on to a real slate.

Let's dive right in and take a look at some of the top plays.

Sergei Bobrovsky FD - $8500 DK - $8300

After an excellent first half of the season followed by an All-Star appearance, Bob struggled to regain form. He lost his first two games after the ASB, giving up eight goals but bounced back in his last start where he stopped 24 of 26 shots in a 3-2 win over Detroit. He gets one of the best matchups of the night vs. the Canucks who have struggled on the road all season(6-16-3) and rank 8th overall in offense. Lock Bob in all formats with a mid $8K price tag.

 

 
Henrik Lundqvist FD - $8700 DK - $8100
Opponent - NAS
Proj Pts FD - 19.02 DK - 4.75

Even with how well King Henrik has been playing lately, he should be slightly under owned tonight with so many excellent options. The Rangers are small -128 favorites at home to the Predators who rank inside the Top 15 in offense and inside the Top 10 in defense. Lundqvist appears to have turned his season around after a very inconsistent first half. He has won three straight games out of the ASB, stopping  108 of 113 shots(.955 save %). Another positive is that the Preds average right around 31 shots for/60 which helps give Lundy a nice floor and we all know the upside.

CENTERS

Sidney Crosby FD - $8900 DK - $8500
Opponent - COL
Proj Pts FD - 18.24 DK - 5.27

 

If you are paying up for one player tonight, it has to be Sid the Kid. He is the best player in the league and that is so hard to say as a Flyers fan. Crosby is currently tied with Connor McDavid for the league lead in points(60) but with nine less games played, is miles ahead of everyone averaging 1.3 points per game. Then there is the matchup! The Pens take their top-ranked offense on the road to face the bottom-feeding Avalanche who rank dead last in offense and defense. Load up on the Kid in all formats.

Stack with: Chris Kunitz, Phil Kessel(PP), Patric Hornqvist(PP)

 

 
Brandon Dubinsky FD - $4800 DK - $3900
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 8.7 DK - 2.63

To get Crosby and a top goalie into your lineups you will need to find a few value plays to make it work. It starts with Dubinsky at center who has been a big offensive contributor lately. He has tallied nine points in his last 10 games including multi-point games in two of his last three. He is definitely not the safest choice for cash games with lower than average shot volume but plays on the top line and also gets powerplay time.

WINGERS

Mike Hoffman FD - $6800 DK - $5700
Opponent - DAL
Proj Pts FD - 12.77 DK - 4.13

I am dipping right down into the value range to start the winger section today. If you have ben reading my NHL stuff for any length of time you probably remember him being one of my favorite cash game options last season. It was due to his elite shot volume and looking at the advanced stats, he is once again sitting inside the Top 10 in shot attempts per 60 minutes. He has also been contributing offensively lately with nine points in his last 10 games with a whopping 35 shots on goal. Fire him upin all formats tonight.

PP Stack with: Kyle Turris, Derick Brassard

 

 
William Nylander FD - $5500 DK - $5300
Opponent - STL
Proj Pts FD - 10.37 DK - 3.32

Digging even deeper down the salary we find another tremendous value with excellent shot volume. Nylander is one of the impressive Leafs rookies that has helped bring life back to the franchise. He has tallied six points in his last 10 games including a hat trick vs. the Bruins and has 34shotson goal in those games. The price combined with the safety of shot volume makes him safe in all formats.

Stack with: Nazem Kadri, Auston Matthews(PP)

DEFENSEMEN
Brady Skjei FD - $3900 DK - $3200
Opponent - NAS
Proj Pts FD - 8.29 DK - 2.46

As you can see I am heavy on value today as I want to fit Crosby in as many lineups as possible. I am going back to the well with this pick as I was on him last time out and he didn't disappoint with two assists even though he seen his ice time normalize. He has actually now recorded a point in three of his last four games and has seven points in his last 10 games. Pretty good for a sub $4K option on both sites.

 
Ivan Provorov FD - $4600 DK - $4600
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 9.57 DK - 2.86

The most impressive part about Provorov, from a fantasy perspective, is that when is failing to provide offense stats he provides us with a nice floor with his shot blocking and shot volume. He has now gone six straight without a point but has 15 shots on goal and 13 blocks. I will take that all day from a mid $4K fantasy D-man.
