Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 2/2/17

Welcome back to another night of daily fantasy hockey with DFSR. After a small three-game hump day slate, we get a much bigger eight-game slate tonight with some well-rested teams as there are no back to backs. Let's dig in and take a look at some of the top plays for tonight from the projection system.

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

GOALIES

Carey PriceCarey Price FD - $9700 DK - $7900
Opponent - PHI
Proj Pts FD - 14.88 DK - 3.72

Wow, is this ever a tough day for a "safe" goalie. We just needed to dig a little deeper to try and find our "best" option. Enter Carey price, who is still the best goalie in the world. Yes I know he has been struggling by his standards recently, but he stood on his head last game in a victory against the Sabres. Price has won two of his last three starts. During those three games, he had an average of 37.3 shots fired against him, while allowing only six goals. That is a ton of rubber he has been seeing lately. This evening, he and the Habs travel to Philly to play the lowly Flyers and their 20th ranked offense. Price is way too cheap over at Draftkings, so because of the shots he has been facing, he is a great play in all formats there and he is a great GPP play on Fanduel.

Corey CrawfordCorey Crawford FD - $8800 DK - $8200
Opponent - ARI
Proj Pts FD - 13.45 DK - 3.36

Here we have another goalie who is away from his home barn this evening, but Chicago is playing a very bad team in the Arizona Coyotes. I don't like recommending goalies for cash games when they are on the road, but it is a tough night at the netminder position. Crawford has lost his last two games, but he hasn't lost three games in a row all season long. The Coyotes and their 29th ranked offense should be making Crawford's mouth water as I speak. Here is my strategy today. Crawford is $900 cheaper than Price on Fanduel, so I will be playing him in all formats there. As for Draftkings, Price is $300 cheaper, so I will be using Crawford in my tourney lineups only.

CENTERS

Mark ScheifeleMark Scheifele FD - $7900 DK - $6200
Opponent - DAL
Proj Pts FD - 15.11 DK - 4.62

This young man has been on fire lately. That shouldn't change tonight as the Jets travel to Dallas. The Stars own the league's 28th ranked defense and the league worst 30th ranked penalty kill. Scheifele has two goals, three assists and seven shots on goal in his last two games and 14 points in his last 10 games. That's impressive, to say the least. The young superstar in the making plays on Winnipeg's top line and sees a lot of powerplay time. We need exposure to the Jets' offense and Scheifele is a great play in all formats this evening. Let's not waste any more time and lock him into every single one of our lineups.

Stack With: Blake Wheeler

Nazem KadriNazem Kadri FD - $6900 DK - $6100
Opponent - STL
Proj Pts FD - 12.22 DK - 3.91

Everyone and their ancestors are in love with Auston Matthews, but it's Kadri who has been Toronto's steadiest player recently, so let's enjoy the discount. Kadri is on a five-game point streak and has scored at least a point in 11 of his last 12 games, with seven of those points coming via the powerplay. The Leafs travel to St. Louis this evening to play the Blues and they're 29th ranked defense. St Louis has been horrendous lately and their goalies would have trouble stopping a giant beach ball. Kadri is safe tonight in all formats.

PP Stack with: Auston Matthews, Michael Nylander

Mike FisherMike Fisher FD - $5000 DK - $4300
Opponent - EDM
Proj Pts FD - 9.38 DK - 2.99

This guy is married to Carrie Underwood. How can we not like this guy? He's not a bad hockey player either. He has it made in Nashville where he can just float around the ice and try to look important. He has arguably more job security than anyone in the NHL besides Mr. Bettman. There is very little value at the lower tier at this position today, so here is the best of the worst. The system doesn't mind him actually. The Oilers are ranked eighth on defense which is good, but Fisher plays on the #2 line and #1 powerplay unit. He has three assists and two powerplay points in his last two games and a total of 13 power-play points this season, so I like him as a cheap value play in all formats today.

PP Stack with: Filip Forsberg, Ryan Johansen

WINGERS

Patrick KanePatrick Kane FD - $8300 DK - $7300
Opponent - ARI
Proj Pts FD - 20.35 DK - 6.55

Wow, the system has a huge man crush on Kane tonight and it's easy to figure out why. The Blackhawks face the Coyotes and their 27th ranked defense this evening. Kane attempts 16.64 shots on goal per 60 minutes which is near the top of the league in that category. While he only has a goal and an assist in his last four games, he fired 13 shots on goal during that time. Look for Chicago to score at least a few goals tonight and for Kane to be involved in a big way. Because of his shot volume, Kane is a great play in all formats.

Stack with: Artemi Panarin, Artem Anisimov

Vladimir TarasenkoVladimir Tarasenko FD - $8100 DK - $7400
Opponent - TOR
Proj Pts FD - 13.69 DK - 4.57

Does this guy not have a nickname yet? This guy is a stud on the ice and has two goals, an assist and eight shots on goal in his last two games. The Maple Leafs and their 17th ranked defense come to town tonight and this could be a very high scoring game. The total according to Vegas is currently set at six goals. The Russian star can be inconsistent and is expensive, so he isn't a very good cash game play, but he has as much upside as anyone in the league. If you want to take down a large tourney tonight, I suggest that you have this guy and his linemates in your GPP lineups.

Stack with: Jaden Schwartz, Jori Lehtera

Patrick SharpPatrick Sharp FD - $5800 DK - $4500
Opponent - WPG
Proj Pts FD - 10.07 DK - 3.21

This is another game which Vegas thinks is going to be a very high scoring game and we need to get exposure to both the Jets and the Stars. We can't fit all of the high priced guys into our lineups, so here we have a nice value play, especially on Draftkings where he is ridiculously cheap. Sharp currently plays on the third line in Dallas, but he sees a decent amount of powerplay time. His line has arguably been Dallas' best line recently and he has two goals, an assist and eight shots on goal in his last two games. Sharp is a great value play in all formats today.

Stack with: Radek Faksa, Devin Shore

DEFENSEMEN

Erik KarlssonErik Karlsson FD - $7200 DK - $7000
Opponent - TB
Proj Pts FD - 15.38 DK - 5.02

On a night where there isn't a standout elite goalie, it makes perfect sense to pay up for an elite D man in all formats. I lean Karlsson tonight who comes at a nice discount and provides fantasy value across the board. Not only is he a near point per game player, he provides elite shot blocking(2.6 per game) and above average shot volume(2.5 shots per game).

Ivan ProvorovIvan Provorov FD - $4900 DK - $4600
Opponent - MON
Proj Pts FD - 10.45 DK - 3.14

You guessed it. The Flyers are playing and DFSR is writing about Ivan Provorov. I just can't even start to think about fading him at a price that continually comes in under $5K on both sites. If you watch as many Flyer games as I do, you quickly notice that he has gotten better almost every game, every shift in the NHL. For fantasy, he is also proving he doesn't need offensive stats every night to hit value. Take last game for example. In a 5-1 loss to the Canes he had five blocks and two shots for 3.5 DK/11.2 FD points. He is safe in all formats.
