Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 1/17/17

Welcome back for another Tuesday of daily fantasy hockey with DFSR. After MLK day we are back to a full main slate of hockey with seven games on the schedule. Six of the Top 10 offenses will be in action with four big offensive/defensive mis matches. There are three teams on a back to back and four teams playing a third game in four nights. They are listed below. Let's dig in and take a look at some top value plays for tonight.

Devan Dubnyk FD - $9600 DK - $8400

When picking your cash game goalie it is always advised to take a peak at the Vegas lines for the night to see if there are any overwhelming favorites. Whenever the biggest favorite of the night happens to also be the best goalie in the league you can lock it in! Dubnyk leads the league in GAA(1.78), Save %(.940) and shutouts(5) and sits just three wins back of Bobrovsky. It also helps when your team as the 4th ranked offense and 2nd ranked defense and leads the Western Conference. Tonight he gets a home matchup vs. the Devils who struggle on the road(8-12-6) and sit with a -28 goal differential.

 

 
Frederik Andersen FD - $8900 DK - $7900
Opponent - BUF
Proj Pts FD - 17.37 DK - 4.34

If you are looking at saving a bit at the goalie position tonight, Andersen makes a great choice as the Leafs are the second biggest favorite on the slate. I normally only consider Leafs goalies for GPP(my own bias) but they are red hot right now winning eight of their last 10 games making Andersen safe in all formats. He has been impressive going 7-2-1 with a .924 save % in his last 10 starts while facing 30 or more shots per game.

CENTERS

Vincent Trocheck FD - $6600 DK - $6100
Opponent - CGY
Proj Pts FD - 13.35 DK - 4.18

Keep riding Trocheck at what appears to be value pricing when you look at the PTS$ rankings. He has been red hot since Christmas break with 13 points in 10 games including four points on the powerplay. He has also seen an uptick in ice time and shot volume from the start of the season and provides a very safe floor averaging right around three shots on goal per game. He is safe in all formats on both sites in a matchup vs. the Flames and their 17th ranked defense. Stacking the Panthers top line also gives you tons of salary relief as McCann is near minimum price on both sites.

Nazem Kadri FD - $6800 DK - $5700
Opponent - BUF
Proj Pts FD - 12.99 DK - 4

I have mentioned Kadri in the past but it was for cash consideration only as he ranks inside the Top 10 in shot attempts per 60 minutes and has a very high floor. He is in play tonight in any format as he has converted those shots into goals lately with seven in his last 10 games including six powerplay goals. Like most of the Leafs players and team as a whole, they have been much better at home this season and face a Sabres team who has struggled on the road(7-9-6) and sits in the basement of the eastern Conference.

Stack with: Connor Brown(PP), Auston Matthews(PP)

 

 
Jordan Staal FD - $5500 DK - $4400
Opponent - CBJ
Proj Pts FD - 10.75 DK - 3.19

Staal has been red hot lately with points in four straight and five of his last six games including three multi-point efforts. He has also been more than just a GPP flyer as well with a consistent foor averaging around three shots per game. Tonight is a great opportunity to get him at a lower ownership as the Canes travel to Columbus, Ohio for a tough matchup against the Blue Jackets. Pair him with his linemates for a contrarian stack in large field tournaments.

Stack with: Brock McGinn, Elias Lindholm

 

 

 

WINGERS

Patrick Kane FD - $8600 DK - $7600
Opponent - COL
Proj Pts FD - 16.93 DK - 5.29

Kane's price has been consistent in the mid $8K range all season but has seen a big drop recently on DraftKings making him a near must play. His price won't be in the mid $7K range for long as he has been red-hot coming off a two goal, 12 shot performance and has 13 points in his last 10 games. He is the reigning MVP although not at the top of league in points is averaging over a point per game and has huge multi-point upside.

Stack with: Artemi Panarin, Artem Anisimov

 

 
Chris Kreider FD - $6800 DK - $6400
Opponent - DAL
Proj Pts FD - 14.17 DK - 4.28

The Rangers are an excellent target for any format tonight as they are projected for a crazy high 3.4 goals. Kreider makes a great start as he comes at a very affordable sub $7K price tag on both sites and has been very consistent with the shot volume with 36 shots over his last 10 games. He has also provided the upside we look for in tournaments with 10 points in his last 10 games including two goals on the powerplay.

Stack with: Derek Stepan, Mats Zucarello

 

 
Mikael Granlund FD - $6500 DK - $5400
Opponent - NJ
Proj Pts FD - 13.29 DK - 4

Granlund sits in the same price range as Kreider on FanDuel but comes at a big $1,000 discount on DraftKings. The Wild's offense continues to impress leading the Western Conference with the 4th ranked offense led by four players with 30 or more points this season. Granlund is one of those players and he has 12 points in his last 10 games playing right around 18 minutes per game.

Stack with: Jason Zucker, Mikko Koivu

 

 

 

DEFENSEMEN
Seth Jones FD - $5300 DK - $4800
Opponent - CAR
Proj Pts FD - 11.37 DK - 3.37

From a PTS/$ perspective, Jones has been an elite option for the last few weeks. It is the consistent value he provides across the board including seven points in his last 10 games with a balanced attack of 20 blocks and 22 shots on goal. He is playing top minutes on a very impressive Blue Jackets team that ranks 3rd overall in offense and defense. He is safe in all formats at home tonight.

 

 

Anton Stralman FD - $4500 DK - $3700
Opponent - ANA
Proj Pts FD - 7.72 DK - 2.46

If you are looking for a low-end cash game option, take a close look at Stralman tonight. He doesn't provide much upside with limited offensive ability but is a safe DFS cash play with a consistent floor(for the price) with his shot bocking and shot volume. It's more about getting a couple points with Stralman so you can have access to more upside players at the top of the salary ranks.
