Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 1/10/17

Welcome back daily fantasy hockey fans! Tuesday brings us an interesting seven slate that only includes three of the league's Top 10 offenses with five teams(DAL, EDM, BOS, CBJ, PHI) playing a third game in four nights, four of those teams on the road. As of now, there are only two sizeable favorites(CHI -195 & NSH -180) so surprise, surprise you may just see those teams' goalies below. Let's get started.

GOALIES

Corey Crawford FD - $8900 DK - $8400
Opponent - DET
Proj Pts FD - 18.68 DK - 4.67

Crawford is expected to get the start for the Blackhawks tonight as they are home favorites(-195) to the Red Wings. He has been excellent lately winning three of his last four starts and sits with a nice .925 save % for the season. He now gets a plus matchup vs. a struggling Detroit team that is sitting in the basement of the Eastern Conference with the 24th ranked offense and 21st ranked defense. Crawford has also bee much better on home ice this season with a 9-2-3 record and .933 svae% to go along wit his only two shutouts. He is safe in all formats.

 

Pekka Rinne FD - $8900 DK - $7800
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 17.72 DK - 4.43

The second biggest favorites(-180) of the slate are the Nashville Predators who will be on home ice tonight to face the Vancouver Canucks. The Preds have the advantage across the board with their 11th ranked offense and 16th ranked defense going up against a 25th ranked offense and 20th ranked defense. What makes it worse for the Canucks tonight is the fact they are one of the worst road teams(5-13-1) in the entire league. He comes at the exact same price as Crawford on FanDuel making it easy to split the two in a multiple lineup scenario. On DraftKings he comes at a $600 discount making him the better choice from a PTS/$ perspective.

CENTERS

Jack Eichel FD - $7300 DK - $7200
Opponent - PHI
Proj Pts FD - 14.32 DK - 4.9

He sits right near the top of the salary on both sites at the position and makes a terrific pivot off McDavid, at least on DraftKings where they are the two most expensive options. He missed the first two months of the season due to injury and has now picked up 14 points in his first 18 games including six over his last 10 games. What makes him a great fantasy play tonight is the shot volume(40 shots last 10 games) and the elite matchup vs. a struggling Flyers team.

Stack With: Marcus Foligno, Sam Reinhart

 
Patrice Bergeron FD - $6700 DK - $6100
Opponent - STL
Proj Pts FD - 14.02 DK - 4.35

There is no way you are going to be using Bergeron in cash game with the inconsistency he has shown but he makes a projected low owned GPP play with tons of upside. He struggled through the first half of the season with just 15 points but the positive is that six of those points have come in his last 10 games. He is a staple on the Bruins top line with Marchand and Pastrnak and gets heavy usage on the powerplay. The opportunities should continue to come and so should the offensive production.

Stack with: Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak

 
Patrik Berglund FD - $4000 DK - $3800
Opponent - BOS
Proj Pts FD - 9.88 DK - 2.9

If you are looking to go cheap at center tonight, consider Berglund who rates very high from a PTS$ perspective. The play is a bit risky as he plays on the third line but the Blues have a very balanced scoring attack and Berglund also gets time on the powerplay with the top scorers. The matchup vs. the Bruins isn't the greatest, as they are better on the road, but the price cannot be ignored.

WINGERS

Patrick Kane FD - $8900 DK - $7700
Opponent - DET
Proj Pts FD - 16.53 DK - 5.25

It feels we haven't been talking about Kaner as much this season and it really comes to the amazing amount of talent in the league right now with names like Matthews, Crosby, McDavid, Malkin and others. I got your back tonight Patrick. Don't worry!! Although he has only scored three goals over the last 10 games, he has added 10 assists(3 on PP) and is showing that elite shot volume with 37 shots. He will be at home tonight where he has been much better with 29 points in 24 games and faces a struggling Red Wings team. He is safe in all formats on DraftKings but should be reserved for GPP play on FanDuel.

Stack with: Artem Anisimov, Artemi Panarin

 
Nick Foligno FD - $6800 DK - $6500
Opponent - CAR
Proj Pts FD - 14.14 DK - 4.33

From a PTS/$ perspective, there has been no one better lately than oldest Foligno brother. Nick caught fire during the streak and kept it going with 12 points over his last 10 games including five points on the powerplay. For safety, there are other options with more shot volume but in some cases, it can be ignored, especially when you are averaging a point per game on a Top 3 offense.

Stack with: Brandon Saad, Alexader Wennberg

 

 

 

DEFENSEMEN
Brent Burns FD - $8200 DK - $8100
Opponent - EDM
Proj Pts FD - 16.76 DK - 5.42

Even with a price tag that comes in right around $2K more than the next at his position, he still ranks right up there in PTS/$ value. He offers fantasy production in pretty much every category averaging a point per game, 1.8 blocks, 4.0 shots and 25 minutes of ice time per game. With the giant gap in salary at the top tonight, there is a ton of value using him in GPP's with some projected lower ownership than usual with many going balanced. 

 

 
Jaccob Slavin FD - $4400 DK - $4100
Opponent - CBJ
Proj Pts FD - 9.74 DK - 2.91

Speaking of a balanced approach, if you are leaning that way tonight Slavin is a perfect fit. To be honest, he is a perfect fit if you are using Burns as well as he provides a very affordable mid $4K price tag on both sites. He doesn't provide much in terms of offensive upside with just 16 points on the season but he is skating around 24 minutes per game and gives you a nice floor with consistent shots and blocks.
