Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 12/10/16
Welcome back for another busy Saturday in daily fantasy hockey. DraftKings and FanDuel have seemingly scrapped the All Day slates on the weekend leaving us with a small two game slate in the afternoon and eight game main slate in the evening. For the purpose of this article, we will focus our attention on the main slate. Let's dig in and take a look at some fo the top value plays from the projection system.
Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. GOALIES
Roberto Luongo FD - $8700 DK - $7900
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 18.71 DK - 4.68
It is going to be hard to trust him in cash games tonight with his recent form but everything lines up for a big a night for @strombone1. He and the Panthers are at home tonight as big -205 favorites as his former team(VAN) comes to town. The Canucks have struggled on the road all season(4-8-1) and have been weak defensively rank 28th overall. While Luo has lost three straight he still has an impressive .927 save % over the last 10 games he has started. Don't let recency bias cloud your judgment.
Also Consider: Pekka Rinne(NSH)
CENTERS
Evgeni Malkin FD - $8400 DK - $7400
Opponent - TB
Proj Pts FD - 16.03 DK - 4.98
With very similar PTS/$ value ratings on both sites once again, I will be taking the discount and rolling with Malkin in all formats. He was held off the score sheet last game vs. the Panthers but has been red hot lately with 13 points in his last 10 games averaging over 3.5 shots on goal per game. He and Kessel also pair up with Crosby and Hornqvist on the top powerplay unit. The Pens will face a Lightning team tonight which has been struggling defensively giving up four or more goals in five of their last seven games.
Stack With: Carl Hagelin, Phil Kessel
Auston Matthews FD - $6600 DK - $7200
Opponent - BOS
Proj Pts FD - 15.54 DK - 4.57
From a PTS/$ value standpoint, Matthews is extremely under priced on FanDuel. Over his last 10 games he has scored five goals and added two assists but the real value comes with his shot volume. In those 10 games, he has tallied 35 shots on goal which is actually just under his season average of 3.7 shots on goal per game. The matchup isn't visually appealing but the price just cannot be avoided.
Stack with: Zach Hyman, Connor Brown, Nazim Kadri(PP)
Mike Ribeiro FD - $4900 DK - $3900
Opponent - ARI
Proj Pts FD - 8.43 DK - 2.66
If you are looking for a cheap salary relief option there has been few better than Ribeiro, at least on DraftKings. He is still under $4K and continues to stay hot for the Predators. He has recorded points in four of his last five games and nine points over his last 10 games. He is more of a GPP play as he just doesn't get the shot volume that is needed in cash games.
Stack with: Filip Forsberg, Kevin Fiala
WINGERS
David Pastrnak FD - $7000 DK - $7200
Opponent - TOR
Proj Pts FD - 16.03 DK - 4.62
The Bruins offense overall has been a disappointment this season but no one has told this to David Pastrnak. He continues to show us his gifted skill set of speed and power. He has scored five goals in his last three games and is averaging just over a point per game through 23 games this season. For fantasy, he makes a great pick in any format as the safety has been there all year as he averages just under 3.5 shots on goal per game.
Stack with: Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand
Johnny Gaudreau FD - $7500 DK - $7000
Opponent - WPG
Proj Pts FD - 14.71 DK - 4.92
The Flames are red hot(no pun intended) right now winning four straight and Johnny Hockey has played a huge role. Since returning from a finger injury he has recorded a multi point game in three straight bringing his season total up to 17 points. He appears to have his confidence back and while the price is slowly rising, it will soon peak. Get on board while the price of admission is still affordable.
PP Stack with: Sean Monahan, Troy Brouwer
Sam Gagner FD - $4600 DK - $4400
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 11.14 DK - 3.4
While you would think a player playing on the third and fourth line doesn't have a safe floor, he has provided just that in Columbus this season. He is making the most of his limited ice time(13:34 a game) with 19 points through 24 games while averaging just under three shots on goal. His biggest value has come wit the man advantage where he is playing with the top unit. Lock and load in all formats.
PP Stack with: Cam Atkinson, Alexander Wennberg, Nick Foligno
DEFENSEMEN
Brent Burns FD - $8200 DK - $8500
Opponent - CAR
Proj Pts FD - 19.95 DK - 6.23
While he is only $1,000 more than the next option(Letang) on FanDuel, he is $1,700 more than the next(Weber) on DraftKings. I think this will send a ton of people into the value range for both options tonight. The projections highly recommend not fading him as he is a top PTS/$ value on both sites and an elite real life and fantasy star. If you think about it, he costs less than Crosby on both sites and has actually out produced him from a fantasy standpoint. He is averaging nearly 4.5 shots on goal per game and just under two blocks per game. On top of that he has 24 points including 10 over his past 10 games.
Justin Schultz FD - $4000 DK - $3700
Opponent - TB
Proj Pts FD - 8.05 DK - 2.45
If you are going with Burns, or any other top end player for that matter, you are going to need some low end plays. We have discussed a few at each of the other positions and for defense it's clearly Justin Schultz. He is on his best stretch of the season right now with nine points in his last 10 games and while he doesn't provide much in terms of blocks, he gets nearly two minutes per game on the powerplay. That's more than enough at a price $4K or under across the industry.
