Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 10/29/16

Welcome back for another night of daily fantasy hockey. This Saturday brings us an afternoon matchup between the Sabres and Panthers but for the purpose of the following picks we will be concentrating on the nine game main slate starting at 7:00 p.m. ET.

GOALIES

Martin Jones FD - $8600 DK - $7900
Opponent - NAS
Proj Pts FD - 17.81 DK - 4.45

From a salary savings perspective, Jones is open of the top options on a busy Saturday night. He doesn't rank high on a raw points scale as he has only faced 30+ shots in a game once this season. I will take the low ceiling as he comes with excellent win potential against a Preds team that is playing a third game in four nights and all on the road. As long as the price continues to hover in the mid tier he will be a top goalie in daily fantasy and is coming off back to back wins allowing just one goal in each.

Ben Bishop FD - $9100 DK - $8300
Opponent - NJ
Proj Pts FD - 19.13 DK - 4.78

It's been a roller coaster ride for the Bolts top goalie so far this season. He has a 3-2 record but has logged a terrible 3.22 GAA and .891 save % as the Tampa defense has been somewhat suspect. The good news is they have a powerful offense that has lead them to an impressive 5-2 start. Bishop Played well in his last outing, stopping 23 of 25 shots but ended up with the loss against the NHL leading Habs. He gets an excellent matchup tonight against the 29th ranked offense of the Devils. The Lightning are early -145 favorites making Bishop a safe play in all formats.

Petr Mrazek FD - $8800 DK - $7800
Opponent - BOS
Proj Pts FD - 16.45 DK - 4.11

If it's upside you're after take a shot with Petr Mrazek in GPP's tonight. The Red Wings have given up the fourth most shots against per 60(32.8) in the league which has lead to Mrazek facing 30+ shots in every start. That makes his .925 save % even more impressive. He will be facing a Bruins team that started off hot but has since dropped three straight games scoring just four goals in those contests.  

 

 

CENTERS

Sidney Crosby FD - $8400 DK - $8000
Opponent - PHI
Proj Pts FD - 16.65 DK - 5.51

After another concussion scare in the pre season the Penguins took it easy with their superstar early on. He made his debut two games ago and looks to be back in form having scored in both games and playing around 18 minutes on the top line and powerplay unit. He will get an elite matchup tonight against a Flyers team that is prone to high scoring games and takes a ton of penalties. This should lead to plenty of powerplay opportunities for Crosby and the Pens. He is safe in all formats.

Mikko Koivu FD - $5200 DK - $4500
Opponent - DAL
Proj Pts FD - 9.55 DK - 3.04

If you are looking to go the value route there is merit in playing the Wild's top line, specifically Mikko Koivu. The Wild have been impressive in the early going with 11 points and sit at the top of the tough Central Division. The more surprising part may be their elite offense that ranks fourth in goals per game(3.5). That offense will get a small boost in a matchup vs. the Stars who are allowing over three goals per game. Koivu doesn't provide the safest of floors with a low SA/60(8.6) but plays on the top line and powerplay unit with star forward Zach Parise.

WINGERS

Alexander Ovechkin FD - $8400 DK - $8400
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 19.79 DK - 6.3

When Ovi is red hot like he is right now(goals in four straight games) he is as close to a must play as there is in the league. He provides a very high floor with an elite SA/60(25.6) and is the most feared goal scorer in the league. With goals in four straight games he is right back on pace for his eighth career 50+ goal season. Ride the hot streak into a GPP happy place tonight!

Brayden Schenn FD - $5700 DK - $5500
Opponent - PIT
Proj Pts FD - 10.55 DK - 3.36

One of my top value plays of the night is Brayden Schenn who will be back skating on the top line tonight. He spent the last two games down on the third line and it seemed to have sparked his game. He recorded back to back multi point efforts including four powerplay points. He will get a boost playing alongside Giroux and Simmonds and should get plenty of PP time as the Flyers and Pens tend to play a lot of high scoring, penalty filled games.

DEFENSEMEN

Alec Martinez FD - $4800 DK - $4600
Opponent - STL
Proj Pts FD - 9.48 DK - 2.96

I will be rolling with two value D men tonight as I am wanting to stack as many top forwards as possible. Martinez is red hot right now and comes at a fantastic value on both sites under $5K. He has recorded a point in five of his first seven games for the struggling Kings and even provides a high floor with over two blocks per game and 17 shots on the season.
Ivan Provorov FD - $4100 DK - $3900
Opponent - PIT
Proj Pts FD - 7.76 DK - 2.36

I will once again ride the young Flyers D man until he proves me wrong. He is right around the $4K mark on both sites and is getting top minutes at both even strength and on the powerplay. Like Martinez, he provides a high floor with blocks and has recorded nine shots in his last three games.
