A quick heads up - we post an updates article every day in the early afternoon, EST, to catch everyone up on how things are changing as a result of whatever news has come through. We also have great talks in the comments of that article. Hope to see you there!

Stack Targets

As usual, the Coors game has the highest total. But that's boring. Let's talk about some other squads.

The Toronto Blue Jays vs. what's left of Anibal Sanchez
If there's a pitcher more capable of putting up a huge offensive game than Anibal Sanchez, let me know in the comments. Sanchez is walking an awful 4.23 batters per 9 innings, and generating ground balls on just 40% of his balls in play. His 5.22 xFIP would be the third worst in the majors, except he hasn't stayed on the mound enough to qualify among the league leaders. And the Rogers Centre? One of the best hitters parks in the league. The Blue Jays have just the 2nd highest implied run total today as far as Vegas is concerned, but given the contextual factors, they're my top stack today. As for the players to target themselves, it's just the usual suspects, here - Donaldson, Encarnacion, and Saunders - but I'm also intrigued if Ezequiel Carrera leads off again.

The Baltimore Orioles vs. Tim Lincecum
I covered this at great length in the main picks article today, but this is just a dream match-up for the Orioles. Lincecum's 4.71 xFIP is the worst of his career, and last year's 4.64 was his second worst. His Ks are still dwindling, and his walks are sky high. If you're not privy to how the Orioles work, don't be thrown off by their right-handedness. Jones, Machado, and Schoop are all reverse-platoon split guys for their career, Davis is way better against righties, and Trumbo is more than serviceable. I expect Lincecum to get put through the ringer here, and will be a huge O's buyer today.

The Texas Rangers vs. Tommy Milone
Another weird one, where a lot of the Rangers' best hitters are left handed, but I'm not spooked (and neither is Vegas). The Rangers have the highest implied run total of any non-Coors team today, and for good reason. Milone's disastrous starts tend to come from his desire to pitch both slowly and near the plate, and his 1.77 HR/9 would be the 5th worst in the majors if he qualified. Odor and Choo have been way better against lefties this season, and Beltre and Desmond are career lefty killers. I don't think I'll be able to talk myself into Fielder today, though.

Also considered: The Cubs' righties against Jon Niese, the human home run machine. They're just a little expensive, though, and I expect them to be chalky.

  1. Pirates would also be a stack to consider

  2. What about an Astros or A’s stack or not even run production?
