Pitching Targets

Note: We discussed R.A. Dickeyand Max Scherzer in the Main Article. And will be going over a few more options below.

Zack GreinkeZack Greinke FD 10500 DK 10300
Opponent - LAD (Bolsinger) Park - @ARI
FD - 35.45 DK - 19.23

Wow, this is one ugly slate we got on our hands. Tonight is one of those nights I recommenced playing less than your usual bankroll and just cross your fingers. With that being said, the first guy I will go ahead and talk about is Zack Greinkie.

Greinkie will be going up against his old team the L.A. Dodgers. Revenge game perhaps? If you're into narrative picks, then this is your top pitching option of the night! Greinkie was off to a bumpy start, but has picked it up as of late. He has delivered four quality starts in his last five outings, including a complete game shutout (in his last outing). He owns a 3.33 FIP to go along with a 1.17 WHIP. He sure has been good, but his 20.7 K% isn't the prettiest of things (for tournaments). He isn't a guy with huge upside, but I do think he is in play against a not so great offense in the Dodgers. He is in play for me tonight in all formats.

P.S. He is probably my top arm of the night for cash games. Max against the Cubbies sure scares me, but he has a ton of upside as well. It's between these two guys and the rest is -- well -- scary.

Carlos CarrascoCarlos Carrasco FD 9400 DK 9800
Opponent - KC (Volquez) Park - @KC
FD - 33.87 DK - 18

I am going to continue the trend here and go with the best pitchers on the slate. The next best pitcher on this slate after Scherzer and Greinke is Carrasco. Carrasco has been battling a hamstring injury, but was able to throw 99 pitches and fan six hitters in his last time out. Although he allowed four runs, this is a good sign to see Carrasco throw over 90 pitches. I am expecting him to do the same tonight, and with not a lot of options on the mound tonight, I'll roll the dice with him. He will be going up against the Royals, which is never a good things as they don't K much (19.8 K%). But Carrasco's matchup isn't terrible. The Royals are banged up and own a .310 wOBA (20th in MLB) and .130 ISO (29th in MLB) against right-handed pitching. I mean this isn't the prettiest of picks, but their is no "safe" pick tonight.

Wei-Yin ChenWei-Yin Chen FD 8100 DK 6900
Opponent - SD (Rea) Park - @SD
FD - 30.86 DK - 16.09

Warning: Please limit your exposure. I don't have much confidence with the rest of the guys, so I will go with Wei Yin Chen, who the projection system likes quite a bit.

Chen has not been very good this season. His FIP and ERA is over four, but he does have a nice matchup against the Padres tonight. The Padres have had their struggles this season. Although they hit lefties better than righties, Chen is still in play for me (considering tonight's slate). Chen isn't a guy you see on a slate and think "upside," but he sure does have some of that tonight! The Padres have a 24.9 K% (3rd in MLB) against left-handed pitching this season. While this pick does hurt my stomach a bit, the projection system has a thing for him, so I will go ahead and give him a shot. Plus, playing at Petco Park will help him out tonight.

So yeah, baseball season! And we've got some goodies you can take with you. At the end of the post, we have our MLB eBook that you really ought to check out before setting even a single daily fantasy MLB lineup. It's free, below.

  1. Agree with all these. It’s ugly tonight. Although I think greinke may lack the composure to be a revenge threat. I see him more nervous tonight leading to mistakes

  2. Could be right. It’s just an ugly slate in general. Wouldn’t be surprised if no pitcher surpasses 20 FP tonight. 🙁

  3. Why are the dk prices on here so wrong Chen is 8000 on dk

    • @Evan Faletti they do have quite a bit of discrepancies everyday with pricing on DK

      • Probably an overstatement, but agreed the pricing in this article (not system itself) is inconsistent. Has to do with updating system evening before to write articles. Investigating why the DK feed had yesterday’s pricing but FD was updated.
