Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.

Stack Targets

Cleveland Indians vs. Tim Adleman(Reds)

My favorite stack of the day has to be the Cleveland Indians offense going up against the inexperienced Tim Adleman in the hitter's haven that is Great American Ballpark. Adleman has only thrown 16 big league innings in his career, and while his numbers suggest he's doing a decent enough job, there are definitely areas in his game that can be exploited (namely his struggles against left-handed hitters). Although it is a small sample size of only 29 batters faced, Adleman is allowing lefties to hit .346/.414/.615 against him, and has already given up two home runs. Because of this, I would suggest stacking as many left-handed Indians as you can. Our system likes Carlos Santana (OPS of .874 vs right-handed pitching), Jason Kipnis (.909 OPS vs right-handed pitching), Tyler Naquin ( .316 batting average vs right-handed pitching), and Francisco Lindor (who is better against southpaws, but still good against righties). Combine all of that with the fact that Great American Ballpark is second only to Coors Field in terms of home run park factor and you've got a relatively safe stack with some pretty high upside.

Chicago White Sox vs. Collin McHugh(Astros)
I'm a little hesitant about this stack because a lot of people are going to want to roster Chris Sale, but even if you stack 3 hitters and Sale there is a benefit to this matchup

I'm not really sure what has happened to Collin McHugh this year, but he looks nothing like the guy who won 19 games last season for the Astros. Everyone who gets to hit against McHugh seems to be having success against him this year as he's allowing both right-handed and left-handed batters alike to hit over .310 against him, and have OPS's over .900. Those numbers are just bad any way you want to look at it, and it doesn't help McHugh that he's pitching on the road today where his ERA and xFIP are 8.74 and 5.61 respectively. The White Sox aren't the most potent offense in the world, but they certainly have guys who can take advantage of poor pitching. Our system likes guys like Jose Abreu, Melky Cabrera, Todd Frazier, and Adam Eaton (although Eaton to a lesser extent). U.S. Cellular Field is an above average hitters park, which is always advantageous when stacking, but this stack is mainly to take advantage of a pitcher who has really been struggling this season. Look for the White Sox to put up some runs tonight.

Oakland Athletics vs. Ivan Nova(Yankees)

This stack almost feels like a trap to me, but our system loves this play, especially from a PPD standpoint. Ivan Nova has been the equivalent of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde regarding his performance at home vs on the road, sporting an ERA around 1 at home and an ERA well north of 10 on the road. This could just be an aberration, but nonetheless something to keep in mind. Nova has decent enough numbers against lefties due to his high ground ball %, but doesn't possess much of a strikeout punch as he's only struck out 3 of the 42 batters he's faced. This plays right into the Athletics strength as they have the 5th lowest strikeout % against right-handed pitching on the season, so look for Oakland to put a lot of balls in play against Nova. The Athletics have a bevy of cheaper guys to choose from, and our system really likes guys like Stephen Vogt, Billy Butler, Chris Coghlan and Josh Reddick. All of these guys are left-handed hitters who have better numbers vs righties, and 3 of them are priced near the minimum. If you're looking to stack a team and still have enough cash to roster Sale or Strasburg, this is the stack for you.

For the early slate of games, our system is big on the Orioles against Nathan Karns, but I'm not sure I love the matchup from a PPD standpoint.
