Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.
Pitching Targets
Note - We have already discussed Chris Sale, Jake Odorizzi and Gio Gonzalez in our main artcle. In this article we will cover a few other options, mostly for GPP play this evening.
Nick Tropeano FD 6400 DK 5800
Opponent - SEA (Karns) Park - @SEA
FD - 27.33 DK - 13.82
Chris Sale is the only pitcher on both sites above $10K and while he makes a great cash game play tonight, he will be highly owned in GPP and makes an easy fade. After Sale there are a ton of options in the mid range that make viable options. Tropeano is one of those options as he goes up against the Marines in Seattle which is a terrific pitchers park. Tropeano has yet to make it through six innings in any of his starts due to his high walk rate(4.83 BB/9) but comes with strikeout upside as he is currently running a 10.23 K/9 ratio. The Mariners hit right handed pitching quite well(12th in team wOBA) but strikeout over 20% of the time. If Tropeano can limit the free passes he will have a great shot at picking up his second win in 2016. Looking at the projections he comes in as the top PTS/$ play on DraftKings and a top 3 pay on FanDuel.
Josh Tomlin FD 8400 DK 7500
Opponent - MIN (Nolasco) Park - @CLE
FD - 32.65 DK - 17.25
The projection system also favors Josh Tomlin today in a home matchup vs. the Twins. The Indians are big favorites(-175) in a neutral to slightly favored pitchers park. Tomlin has started the season with a win in each of his first five starts which has been a bit lucky as he has given up a HR in four of those starts and had two games where he has given up four earned runs. He is a fly ball pitcher(39% GB rate) that will give up the long ball but limits the damage as he just doesn't walk many batters(two free passes all year). The strikeouts are down in 2016(5.9 K/9 this year vs. 7.81 K/9 last year) but that could improve tonight against the Twins who rank 21st in team wOBA(.302) and are currently striking out over 23% of the time vs. right handed pitching. Tomlin can be considered in cash games as a second pitcher on DraftKings but definitely makes a much better GPP play tonight.
