Upper Tier
Tyler Ulis
FD - 10200 DK - 9600
I don’t normally pay up for guys who have a price tag in excess of 10k, but for Ulis I might make an exception today. He has put up 40+ FD points in 5 of his last 10 games, and I’m expecting for that trend to continue against LSU. For starters, LSU comes in with the 281st ranked scoring defense in the league, so you know Kentucky is going to be able to take advantage of that. This game also has the highest O/U on the early slate, so Ulis should have plenty of opportunities to score and assist in transition, something he has been phenomenal at this year. The spread is a little worrisome, but I think LSU will keep this one closer than many expect, and Ulis will get the minutes he needs to have a monster game.
Armani Moore
FD - 9100 DK - 8900
Speaking of guys who’ve been on fire lately, Armani Moore is also very high up on that list. All he’s done is put up 30+ FD points in 5 straight games, including a game over 40 and a game over 50 during that span. He’s been an absolute beast, averaging 15.6 ppg, 8.2 rpg, and 5.2 apg over his last 5, displaying the all-around game that is beginning to get the attention of NBA scouts. Mississippi is another one of those teams with a terrible scoring defense, ranking 190th in CBB in that particular category. Moore has a pretty safe floor in this one, but considering this is his senior night, I think he has the most upside of just about any guy on the early slate. A must play for me in all formats.
Zach Auguste
FD - 8800 DK - 8300
This is almost exactly the same write-up as Armani Moore, so I’ll keep it brief. Auguste is a guy who has been much better this season at home than he has been on the road, averaging over 31 FD ppg over his last 5 home games. He’s got a great matchup against a below average NC State defense which ranks 219th in the nation in scoring defense. Mix in the fact that this game has a huge O/U and it’s senior day in South Bend and it becomes a perfect storm for Auguste to have a big game.
Consider Moses Kingsley, Ryan Anderson, and J.J Fraizer for the mid-afternoon slate.
Middle Tier
Tauren Waller-Prince
FD - 7700 DK - 7800
I’ll go ahead and throw it out there now because it’s going to get repetitive. I’m going to be recommending a lot of seniors playing on senior day because I think it gives them an upside not normally seen in regular games. Waller-Prince falls into this category and he’s a mid-priced guy that I think could have a big game. West Virginia is no slouch on defense, but Baylor has been playing good basketball lately and Waller-Prince has been a big part of that. Again, this game has a massive O/U and the line is very close, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Waller-Prince sees extended minutes if he can keep out of foul trouble. I’ll be playing him in all of my lineups and I recommend that you do the same.
Kellen Dunham
FD - 6700 DK - 6000
Another pick, another senior, another senior day. Kellen Dunham has been playing great lately, particularly on the offensive end. He’s been averaging 20 ppg over his last four games, and has been seeing extended minutes as a result of this newfound increase in scoring. I like that trend to continue in Butler’s home game against Marquette, who has a scoring defense ranked 192nd in college basketball. I think that this game will be a lot closer than most people think, so I expect Dunham to reach value if he keeps getting those high minutes he seems to be locked into.
Marcus Hunt
FD - 8200 DK - 7600
I know Hunt is on the higher range of the mid-priced guys, and I don’t love him from a value perspective as much as the other guys. That being said, I’d be doing you guys a disservice if I didn’t mention him because he’s a guy who has a ton of upside. I don’t love the matchup against Pitt, but I do love Hunt when he plays at home. He’s averaging over 30 FD ppg over his last 4 home games, and I’d be shocked if he didn’t get at least that many points on his senior night. A tournament play for me, but don’t be surprised if he’s one of the guys on the winning lineup.
Consider Kaleb Tarczewski, Frank Mason, and Perry Ellis for the mid-afternoon slate.
Lower Tier
Shembari Phillips
FD - 5500 DK - 5500
There aren’t really any super-low priced guys that I feel comfortable recommending, but guys in the mid to low 5000’s can still produce a ton of value. Shembari Phillips is a guy who’s price has risen by 1000 over his last 3 games, mainly due to the fact that he’s averaged 24 FD points over that span. He’s been getting a ton of minutes as a result of Tennessee’s depleted backcourt, and that trend looks like it will continue into this matchup with Ole Miss. He’s nearly a lock for x4 value, so he’s a must play in my book.
Alex Poythress
FD - 5300 DK - 5700
He’s not as much of a must play as Phillips because I could see his minutes fluctuate, but if Poythress get’s 30 minutes I’d be shocked if he didn’t get to x4 value. Coach Cal was cautious with Poythress in his first game back from injury, but really turned him loose in his second game, (which resulted in a 12 point, 10 rebound game for Poythress) which bodes well moving forward. I’m expecting that Poythress will be given the early assignment of guarding Ben Simmons, so I think that he’ll be on the court as much as Simmons (which is a lot). He’s not a lock for value due to the fact that he could get into foul trouble playing Simmons, but I really like him if he can stay in the game.
Consider Wayne Selden Jr., Tyler Dorsey, Justin Bibbs, and Kadeem Allen for the mid-afternoon slate.
