Quarterback
Dak Prescott
Unless you have been living off the reservation for the past couple years you've heard of Dak Prescott. So we'll move beyond all the stats and highlights that make Dak a beast on game day and tell you why he's still a great play even at such a lofty tag. The Bulldogs are expected to roll as 21 point favorites, but Vegas thinks Southern Miss is going to do a little scoring as well with a total in the low 60's. Prescott has ridiculously high floor with his ability to beat you on the ground or through the air. Mississippi State has a solid veteran receiving led by DeRunnya Wilson, more on him later. Josh Robinson, who was a touchdown magnet, has moved on to playing in the NFL which should create more opportunities for Dak in close. This is kind of an odd slate salary wise and I think spending up for Dak makes a lot of sense given the value that can be found at other positions.
Kyle Allen
If you don't want to spend up for Dak or are looking for his running mate, look no further. Allen comes with a bit more risk than Dak, but the price is also considerably less. Ill start by saying this game has one of the highest totals on the board at 70. A&M is a slim 3 point favorite and that's only because the game is being played on their home turf. Allen fared pretty well last year as a true freshman and should have a much higher understanding of the offense entering 2015. Much of this play is about price vs opportunity. Both teams are expected to score near 35 points and Allen priced in the mid salary tier. The play here is a starting QB in what should be The O.K. Corral, but only costing you a middling salary. The upside is very real.
Running Back
Elijah McGuire
What's not to love? Elijah can do it all; bust it between the tackles, take it outside, catch out of the backfield, and most importantly take it to the house from anywhere on the field. McGuire is curiously underpriced on FanDuel and I suspect he will be a relatively high percentage start on that site. His price is a little steep on DraftKings, but I still think he should be considered even at the higher tag. McGuire is far and away the Cajuns best offensive player and you can bet they will figure out a way to get him the ball. Last season McGuire racked up 1264 yards on the ground and 468 through the air to go along with 16 touchdowns. I don't like the fact the Cajuns are 17 point dawgs, but McGuire is such a weapon that I don't think the score will affect his usage much. Sometimes things can be a little foggy in week 1, but one thing is for sure, a healthy Elijah means a lot of Elijah. Going be tough to slow him down.
Tre Madden
Madden beat out Justin Davis for the coveted USC RB1 slot which was easy because Justin just got hurt. Bum ribs will likely hold Davis out of Saturday's game and with Buck Allen now a member of the Ravens there seems to be little competition for carries. This game will be crazy one-sided, but since the Trojans are a little thin at the moment Madden should still see plenty of volume to pay the day. I'll put it like this; Vegas says USC will score roughly 50 points, Buck Allen and Nelson Agholor are both gone, and the only experienced backup is out (technically doubtful). That seems like a whole lot of fantasy ingredients at a significant discount.
Wide Receivers
Josh Reynolds
Reynolds is the Aggies top receiver and makes a nice little stack with Allen. As I mentioned above points in this game are expected to be flying around like they're free. A&M deploys an up tempo pass attack offense and with an improved Allen you should get an improved Josh Reynolds. Considering he scored 13 touchdowns last year you can imagine the production if he and Allen can elevate their game. In 3 of the last 4 games the two connected on 5 touchdown passes. That was against solid competition in Auburn, Missouri and West Virginia so I don't think the #15 team in the country will intimidate the Aggies Saturday night.
DeRunnya Wilson
Wilson is essentially the same receiver as Reynolds, but has the privilege of catching balls from Dak Prescott. Both of these receivers make nice stack combos with their respective quarterbacks mentioned above. Wilson has less competition for targets compared to Reynolds so he may offer a slightly higher floor, but probably has the lower ceiling as well based on the lower expected game score and the fact Dak will run his fair share across the goal line himself. Im playing both guys on both sites
Devonte Boyd
Boyd is the Rebels WR1 and should be considered if you are looking more on the value side. Boyd is the top returning receiver for UNLV and should result in career targets and receptions. Obviously yards and touchdowns, but I wanted to lead with targets and receptions because I feel Boyd is more of a volume play this Saturday. UNLV are 24 point dogs, but with a total of 63 Vegas says that UNLV will be able to move the ball and put a few points of their own on the board. That puts Boyd in a spot to see all the targets he can handle as de facto #1.
Tight End
For tight end I'd suggest calling FanDuel's customer support line and requesting they eliminate the tight end from the positional mix. On this slate it seems especially cruel to have to fill the slot. There are very few options out there that don't feel like you are throwing a dart against a wall of crappy tight ends. I suppose Desroy Maxwell doesn't make me want to commit a violent crime or anything. How's that for an endorsement?
