Quarterbacks

The quarterbacks coming in the upper salary tier are basically all in great spots this week and it could be tough picking between and among them. Really, I could have written up anyone in this group and it would have been fine. From that perspective, we could see ownership spread out some on both sites. But I do think Justin Fields has one of the higher floors here in a home matchup against the Lions.

From a floor perspective, Fields has one of the higher ones around. He runs a ton, averaging 12.25 rushes per game over his last four. He hasn’t found the end zone with all that time on the ground, though that could be something of an outlier. Plus, the Bears will air it out if playing from behind which could, for sure, be the case against Detroit here. I especially like the price on DraftKings coming sub-$7K.

Man, who has been better than this guy over the last four weeks? In that span. Brock Purdy has completed 74% of his passes and averaged 288 yards through the air. Plus he has 11 total touchdown passes. It’s been a fantastic run and has actually vaulted him up into the MVP discussion.

Now, he’ll get another great matchup at home against the Seahawks with the 49ers coming in as -10.5 favorites. There was a bit of a struggle two weeks ago in this same matchup, but even with that you saw the numbers posted above. He’s coming off a major chalk week on DraftKings and that could be the case again.

Running Back

It feels like one of the highest floor plays you can make this week is to stack Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey in cash and just let the 49ers offense take you all the way there. After all, this group has put up points in bunches, and really it’s looked pretty easy for them of late.

When these teams played two weeks ago on Thanksgiving, Christian McCaffrey went for 114 yards on the ground and another 25 through the air. He finished with a couple of touchdowns, and the Seahawks really had no answer. With San Fran big home favorites, we are in a great spot rostering one of the best volume (and talent) running backs going.

Zack Moss FD 6800 DK 5900

Zack Moss was chalk’s chalk last week and for good reason. Jonathan Taylor was out and he stood to see all of the snaps and carries in the offense. It didn’t really work out going for just 51 yards on the ground and six through the air. But he played 94% of the snaps and few other RBs are given anywhere close to this opportunity.

I’m just fine firing him right back up here even with the price increase. The snaps should be the same, the matchup is fine and there’s a good chance the ownership is much lower because he burned just about everyone last time around.

Joe Mixon FD 7200 DK 6100

It took Joe Burrow being out for the year for Joe Mixon to have his best game of the season. Hilarious how that works sometimes. With Jake Browning under center, Mixon carried the ball 16 times for 68 yards and two touchdowns. He also added six catches on seven targets and 49 yards through the air.

It stands to reason that the Bengals continue to lean on him with Browning around and it’s nice to see the offense was at least competent (or even good?!) with Burrow out of the mix. The Colts allow the most opponent plays per game and Mixon is coming at good price points on both sites.

Consider:

Isiah Pacheco against the Bills. Or, if he sits then Clyde Edwards-Helaire could step into an every down role.

Wide Receiver

Like we said with Joe Mixon, the Bengals offense was one of the bigger surprises from last week considering they had lost one of the best quarterbacks in the game. But Jake Browning stepped in to go a crazy 32/37 for 354 through the air. 11 catches, 149 yards, and one touchdown of that went to Ja'Marr Chase.

The 30% target rate is awesome and knowing that Browning can get the ball consistently to one of the best wide receivers in the game, well, then we are actually probably buying low here. Chase’s price has dropped in the short-term, but that might have been a huge mistake.

Michael Pittman Jr. FD 8000 DK 7300

Don’t look now, but Michael Pittman currently sits second overall in receiving targets on the season, behind only Keenan Allen. Pittman as had an insane usage run of late, with 16 targets last week, plus 13 and 12 in the two weeks prior. Few other wide outs see this type of volume in the passing game. He and Zack Moss combined for 38 of the 61 offensive plays run by the Colts last week. This offense is so concentrated on these two that stacking them cash would appear to have a very high floor.

Rashee Rice FD 6300 DK 5400

It’s been hard to trust the Kansas City Chiefs wide receivers basically ever since Tyreek Hill left, and Patrick Mahomes has really spread things out. But that could be changing with Rashee Rice, who has seen 9 and 10 targets over the last two weeks, combining them for 16 catches, 171 yards, and a touchdown.

He’s playing around 70% of the snaps in the offense, which you would like to see a tick higher, but when he’s on the field, they are getting him the rock. The price is a mid-tier bargain on both sites, and he could see a decent ownership number this week.

Tight End

Isaiah Likely FD 5200 DK 3500

The Ravens were on the bye last week but come into this one against the Rams with some interesting DFS options. One of them is Isaiah Likely, who played 74% of the snaps without Mark Andrews last week and saw six targets. It isn’t an overwhelming number, but I do think we see it grow this time around, and the price makes it easy to fit in lineups on both sites.

Do you trust his eight targets from last week? I really want to, even if that kind of talk is rather foolhardy. He’s coming so cheap on DraftKings, and there’s still a case (albeit maybe silly) that buying on the pedigree is worth it. In all, at a tight end position that’s often tough to get a handle on, Pitts does represent a good play against a weak Bucs pass defense.

Play Brevin Jordan again if Dalton Schultz can’t go.
