Point Guard/ Shooting Guard
Anthony Edwards FD - $8800 DK - $9500
Opponent - BKN
Proj Pts FD - 44.49 DK - 47.99
Mike Conley FD - $5500 DK - $5700
Opponent - BKN
Proj Pts FD - 27.68 DK - 30.38
The Timberwolves will host the Nets on Friday and this game rings in with a healthy 232.5 total. Anthony Edwards makes for a tough fade considering the usage rate has gone up in the wake of the D’Angelo Russell trade and he is coming off a 24-shot game against the Sixers on Tuesday evening. The price is still very manageable, especially on FanDuel where he’s still under $9K. I think he’s a popular play on this slate against a Brooklyn team that has definitely given it up on the defensive end at times.
And then there’s Mike Conley who’s been a bit hit-or-miss lately with both the minutes and the production. It’s kept his price points on the lower side, but he’s also been able to spike some games here and there. He’s a bit on the riskier side all things considered, but the salaries make it a bit easier to stomach if he gets buzzed off his run for whatever reason. The Timberwolves do have some guards they like to play off the bench.
Trae Young FD - $9500 DK - $9300
Opponent - WAS
Proj Pts FD - 44.29 DK - 48.91
Dejounte Murray FD - $8500 DK - $7700
Opponent - WAS
Proj Pts FD - 40.91 DK - 43.85
The Hawks and Wizards are rolling it back after playing each other on Wednesday. That one ended at 122-120 and an Atlanta win, but there was plenty of fantasy production to go around. Trae Young finished with 28 points and 10 assists while Dejounte Murray put up 17 points, six assists, four rebounds, and some defensive stats as well. The Wizards aren’t very good on defense with this personnel and we could see a high-scoring game once again from these two. Both Young and Murray are sitting at good DraftKings prices and I don’t even mind stacking them in this matchup.
Small Forward
Mikal Bridges FD - $9000 DK - $8200
Opponent - MIN
Proj Pts FD - 41.37 DK - 43.25
Cameron Johnson FD - $5800 DK - $6000
Opponent - MIN
Proj Pts FD - 32.82 DK - 34.93
The Nets effectively punted the game against the Bucks on Thursday evening, running the “starters” for about 10 minutes before handing it over the end of the bench and G-leaguers. That won’t be the case on Friday when they should be back to around full strength against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Mikal Bridges is for sure having a moment with his new team, taking a moderate leap up against stardom with his play since leaving the Suns. Before last night’s game Bridges had been taking about 20 shots per game in the short term and surprisingly turned into the league’s better scorers. The price on both sites doesn’t fully reflect his opportunity with Brooklyn.
And then there is Cameron Johnson who should see minutes in the low-30s as long as the game stays close. The scoring has been variable and he needs to hit his threes to really break the bank. But the usage is there when he’s on the court, taking mid-teens shots on a nightly basis in this offense. He can hit from beyond the arc when it’s flowing right and he has upside at these prices.
Power Forward/ Center
Anthony Davis FD - $11500 DK - $11000
Opponent - TOR
Proj Pts FD - 57.41 DK - 59.16
The Lakers are still without LeBron James and they still desperately need to win games in order to keep any sliver of playoff hope alive. From a fantasy perspective, Anthony Davis has been stellar over the short term, averaging 33 points, 14 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks over the last five games. That’s about as good as you’ll see from anyone in the NBA and because of the contribution across multiple stats, has as much upside as anyone out there. The matchup against Toronto isn’t the best, but the minutes' floor for Davis (I know, I know) seems pretty high right now. Even at these elevated price points, he’s a value.
Jakob Poeltl FD - $7400 DK - $6900
Opponent - LAL
Proj Pts FD - 39.04 DK - 40.27
Jakob Poeltl has gotten a new lease on his fantasy (and real) life basketball outcomes since the trade deadline. He’s starting at center for the Raptors, playing real (and more importantly, consistent) minutes, and is essentially averaging a double-double over the last couple of weeks. The price has come up some with the minutes increasing since leaving San Antonio, but he’s still in a good spot against the Lakers here who don’t have a strong interior presence after Anthony Davis.
Kyle Anderson FD - $6500 DK - $5800
Opponent - BKN
Proj Pts FD - 32.01 DK - 33.5
He can be a tricky one on a night-to-night basis because the production ebbs and flows. But there are matchups that favor his size and skill set. This is one of them against the Nets. I think we see Slo-Mo play minutes in the mid-30s and because he can get after it on the defensive end and contribute across the box score, he makes for a value play on both sites but especially DraftKings.
