Point Guard
Dejounte Murray FD - $9700 DK - $10700
Opponent - MIA
Proj Pts FD - 50.35 DK - 53.12
Dejounte Murray is having a truly great season, racking up tons of fantasy points and basically doing everything for the Spurs. He’s coming off a monster 31 point, 14 assist, 13 rebound triple-double against the Wizards in a double-overtime win. Because of that, I’m a little concerned the minutes get dialed back some against the Heat on the back-to-back, but he’s still cheap enough to consider on FanDuel especially. On DraftKings, the price is getting a bit steep. But Murray has such a high floor considering all the ways he’s scoring fantasy points this season.
Brandon Goodwin FD - $5400 DK - $4200
Opponent - WAS
Proj Pts FD - 27.25 DK - 27.42
The Cavaliers just can’t catch a break at the point guard position this season. Just about everyone they’ve slotted there has gotten hurt. Darius Garland, Colin Sexton, Ricky Rubio, and now Rajon Rondo have gotten hurt. That’s going to leave Brandon Goodwin here on Saturday to run the offense against the Wizards. He got in there for 24 minutes on Thursday when Rondo went down and he finished with 15 points, five assists, and four rebounds. The price did come up some, but I’m not too worried about it on either site. The DraftKings salary is an easy call.
Shooting Guard
Tyler Herro FD - $6000 DK - $6200
Opponent - SA
Proj Pts FD - 31.04 DK - 35.08
It’s often very tough to recommend bench guys as can plays, especially on larger slates because the minutes can just be too volatile. Herro is one of the few exceptions to that rule considering how the Heat use him this season. The runaway Sixth Man of the Year favorite right now, Herro has consistently stuck in this role almost no matter the Miami injury situations. They are getting healthier now, but he still came off the bench on Friday to drop 25 points on 9-18 shooting in the win over the Knicks. The price is right in the mid-tier, but I’m fine going here against a Spurs team that is below-average on defense while running the fifth-fastest pace.
Will Barton FD - $5800 DK - $6400
Opponent - SAC
Proj Pts FD - 31.47 DK - 32.55
It’s always a little weird for the Nuggets outside of Jokic, because you can’t quite be certain where their shots are going to come from. Because Jokic facilitates the offense the mismatches can come in a variety of different places and that can mean fluctuating performances among the role players. Barton is one of those dudes, but it’s what keeps his price relatively in check. The Nuggets are on the home and home against the Kings, and last time out Barton smoked them with 31 points, five rebounds, and three assists. There’s no chance he does that again, but I still think he’s a value play just like we thought that the last time out.
Small Forward
Giannis Antetokounmpo FD - $11700 DK - $11800
Opponent - BKN
Proj Pts FD - 60.28 DK - 63.48
The Bucks face off against the Nets at home in this one and should have a relative field day against a team that is still without Kevin Durant and Ben Simmons. And considering the circumstances, there is a lot of incentive for Milwaukee to get out early and just stomp Brooklyn in an effort to facilitate the latter’s slide in the standings. Giannis is expensive for sure, but he should be able to dominate here. And this is a dude averaging 29 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and 2.4 blocks+steals. It’s an MVP level season again for the Greek Freak and you only need to be concerned with the potential blowout.
Isaac Okoro FD - $4100 DK - $3800
Opponent - WAS
Proj Pts FD - 22.22 DK - 23.92
The Cavaliers are really thin on guard right now, and though Okoro isn’t strictly a conventional two-guard, one has to think there will be at least some more minutes for him in this one. He’s coming very cheap on DraftKings on a night when you might want a punt play of two to fit some of the superstars at the top end of the salary scale. He started off strong last game but ended up tailing off in the end, taking only six shots. But this is a good matchup against the Wizards who rank 23rd in defensive efficiency this season. I’ll take the risk on Okoro considering Cleveland’s injury situation overall.
Power Forward/ Center
Nikola Jokic FD - $11500 DK - $12000
Opponent - SAC
Proj Pts FD - 57.82 DK - 60.27
On DraftKings where you can play both him and Gafford (below) then I think it’s easy. But on DraftKings, you need to choose one or the other and I think you need to just spend up for the Joker and save somewhere else. Look, he’s putting up MVP level numbers right now so there’s not much else to say about the dude. He’s a legit $12K player and that price is totally fair. When that’s the case, you need to mostly look at the opponent and see if you are getting away with something on that side of the ball. In this case, against the Kings, you are.
Kyle Kuzma FD - $7400 DK - $8800
Opponent - CLE
Proj Pts FD - 43.14 DK - 46.97
As long as Kristaps Porzingis doesn’t make his return to the court in this game then I think we can continue rolling out Kuzma without much worry. The FanDuel price seems stuck in place and he’s coming off another monster game on Friday with 36 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists in the 43 minute-double overtime game against the Spurs. He took a team-high 27 shots in that one and continues to be the highest usage guy with Bradley Beal out and Spencer Dinwiddie traded. I know the Cavs are a tougher matchup here, but I’m fine with it considering the price.
Daniel Gafford FD - $3700 DK - $3100
Opponent - CLE
Proj Pts FD - 28.19 DK - 26.78
It’s often very tough to trust the Washington Wizards' minutes because they can be all over the place. Just because you start doesn’t mean you’ll close and the bench can often out-play the first unit. That being said, if Gafford is starting again (and he should be based on Cleveland’s size) then he’ll be another chalk play on both sites once again. On Friday, in the double-overtime loss to the Spurs, he played 29 minutes and went for 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, and a block. That’s actually on the low end of the expected production with this kind of run for him, especially on the glass. He’s a lock if he’s with the starters.
