Daily Fantasy MLB Pitchers and Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings - 5/29/18

We already highlighted Kenta Maeda and Blake Snell in our 5/29/18 picks article. We also highlighted the Colorado Rockies and St. Louis Cardinals as a popular game stacks at their respective team price points. Here we will look at some other (possible GPP) considerations.

Pitchers

Danny DuffyDanny Duffy FD 6400 DK 4000
Opponent - MIN (Kyle Gibson) Park - MIN
FD - 26.31 DK - 13.34

I know I mentioned a couple right-handed bats against Duffy tonight in the main article but I don't think we can ignore Duffy's price tonight on DraftKings where he is min price and actually cheaper than 63 bats on this slate. I also mentioned how he is having a roller coaster season so far with some tremendous performances mixed with some absolutely horrible ones. I won't be targeting him in cash games but the matchup for GPP's is decent as the Twins rank around middle of the road against left-handed pitching when looking at wOBA, wRC+, and ISO but do strike out 25.1% of the time in this split which does help Duffy's league average K rate. He doesn't need a ton of production to pay off this price and he has hit 25+ DraftKings points twice this year. Using him as an SP2 allows you to stack up the bats and there is plenty tonight.

Luis CastilloLuis Castillo FD 7800 DK 8000
Opponent - ARI (Zack Godley) Park - ARI
FD - 29.81 DK - 15.68

Looking at the mid-tier options, one that stands out despite being a slight underdog is Luis Castillo. He got off to a shaky start this season giving up four or more earned runs in four of his first six starts but has since the start of May, he has turned it around and has provided tremendous value. Over his last five starts, he has held opponents to two or fewer earned runs in all of them for a 2.83 ERA, 3.52 xFIP and has also provided upside striking out 9.73 batters per nine with a crazy 16.3% swinging strike rate. Tonight he gets a matchup against the Diamondbacks who are coming off a big 12 run performance yesterday but overall, rank dead last in wOBA(.270) and wRC+(66) and 28th in K rate(26%) against right-handed pitching. Considering those stats and his price, I will consider using Castillo in all formats tonight.

Homer Bailey day has come and gone once again but that doesn't mean there aren't other great matchups to target from a stacking standpoint. The obvious choices tonight will be the Rockies and Giants in Coors Field as the matchup of Jeff Samardzija and Kyle Freeland is pretty darn intriguing. On the cheap, you can also take a close look at the Cardinals who are in Milwaukee to take on Zach Davies and the Brewers. I also discussed the Red Sox in the main article as they get a tasty matchup against Marco Estrada who has been terrible, to say the least, this season.

After everyone picks through and loads up on all those great options I feel the Seattle Mariners will be slightly under-owned tonight and also get a plus matchup. We have a somewhat limited sample size to go off of with Austin Bibens-Dirkx but what I see is very noteworthy. He made 24 appearances last season with six starts and wasn't great recording a 4.67 ERA, 5.42 xFIP while giving up 14 home runs and striking out under five per nine. He started this season out in the minors and made his first start five days ago and was beat up by a less than average offense in the Royals. They got him for eight hits and four earned runs over 6.1 innings and he also gave up a whopping 52.4% hard contact rate in that start.

Tonight he gets the Mariners who only rank mid-pack in hitting against righties but much better than the Royals and do have some intriguing options to target. It starts with Jean Segura who is slated to return to the lineup. He has been better against southpaws over the last couple seasons but for his career has been more successful against righties and sits with a .343 wOBA and 120 wRC in that split this season. He leads off for the M's and sets the table for the hitters behind him. The power in the lineup comes from Mitch Haniger and Kyle Seager who lead the team with 11 and nine home runs respectively and both have driven in over 30 runs on the season. If he is back near the top of the lineup tonight, Guillermo Heredia makes a nice option as well as he actually leads the team in wOBA(.407) and wRC+(164) against right-handed pitching.
