Daily Fantasy MLB Pitchers and Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings - 5/15/18

Pitchers

Wood shows up as a GPP pitching option tonight for a couple reasons. First of all, the price has skyrocketed on DraftKings for a pitcher that struggles to get through six innings on a team that doesn't particularly like letting their starters throw 100 pitches. In fact, he has yet to throw 100 pitches in any of his starts this season. What we do get with Wood here is a great matchup against a Marlins team that ranks dead last in wOBA(.281), wRC(76), ISO(.110), and runs scored(138) on the season. For Wood, he has held opponents to two or fewer earned runs in two straight and four of his last five starts and if he can keep the walks down tonight could easily get into the sixth inning earning you a quality start on FanDuel and a win on both sites. The other good news is that with other great options in the upper tier of pricing on DraftKings, Wood will likely be low owned tonight helping create some separation in GPP formats.

If you are going to be rostering Cole at his high price and looking to punt the SP2 position, consider sticking with the contrarian approach and roster Jaime Garcia. Don't get me wrong, there is a ton of risk here as he has been awful in his first season as a Blue Jay and the reason I wrote up Asdrubal Cabrera in the main article. I also mentioned, however, how the Mets are dead last in hitting against left-handed pitching and strike 26.8% of the time which creates some upside tonight. That is the one area where Garcia hasn't been too bad this season as he comes in striking out a batter per inning but what has hurt him the most is the walks(4.63 BB/9) so if he can keep those down, he has a chance to rack up a few K's and get into the 5th/6th inning and even possible earn a win for you tonight at minimum ownership.

The Indians let us down last night as Miek Fiers shut them down but I am going right back to the well tonight in an even better matchup. They will face veteran lefty Francisco Liriano who despite not giving up more than three earned in any of his seven starts is overdue for some regression. He is running an xFIP(4.93)and SIERRA(5.15) that is over a run and a half higher than the ERA(3.35) while operating with a BABIP(.226) that is just over 70 points lower than his career number. He can get into trouble in a hurry as he is walking 4.46 batters per nine and tonight will face a team that is Top 10 in hitting against southpaws and can punish his mistakes.

It starts with Francisco Lindor, Jose Ramirez, and Yan Gomes who all sit with a wOBA over .400 and wRC+ over 150 on the season against lefties. With a home run last night, Jose Ramirez now sits in a tie for the major-league lead in home runs with 13 with Lindor sitting right behind him with 12 and like I mentioned in the main article, Lindor also sits Top 10 or Top 5 in almost all other hitting categories this season. Gomes hit down in the lineup but provides a bit of salary relief at the catcher position and will be very low owned on FanDuel where you don't even have to roster a catcher. Finally, while he has struggled against lefties early in the season, we can't leave out Encarnacion who has a ton of pop in his bat and can help lead you to a GPP win.

As of this morning, the Royals sit with the fourth-highest implied runs on the slate and two teams ahead of them(PHI, BOS) are sitting with weather issues in their respective games. The Royals have been a bottom five offensive team overall this season but have been better as of late, at least from an upside standpoint, as they have scored double-digit runs three times in the last two weeks. The other good news is that they have been better against left-handed pitching and get a plus matchup tonight vs. Anthony Banda making his season debut for the Rays. He came over in a trade in the offseason and spent the later part of the season for the D-Backs in the bullpen after struggling as a starter with a 7.32 ERA/5.26 xFIP. I talked about Merrifield and Soler in the main article and will add switch-hitting Mike Moustakas who has been one of the Royals most productive hitters this season with 10 home runs, 29 RBI, and 25 runs scored. I also like Salvador Perez as a part of the stack as well hitting out of the cleanup spot and through 21 games, has already tallied 17 RBI and 15 runs scored.
