Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 3/30/18

Hello hockey fans and welcome to another day of NHL action here at DFSR. There are six games on tap for us today with three teams(LA, CHI, TB) playing on consecutive nights and we have a couple of weak defenses to pick on. Let's get this party started, my friends.

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

GOALIE

Braden Holtby FD - $8800 DK - $8500
Opponent - CAR
Proj Pts FD - 14.58 DK - 3.64

Overall, this guy hasn't had the best season by his standards but he has still been pretty good at home where he is 21-6-2 to go along with a .923 save % and a 2.37 GAA. He suffered a minor injury and endured through some rough patches recently but he won his last start as he kicked aside 35 of 37 shots and he has won his last three starts while allowing eight goals in the process. The Caps are listed as -210 favorites and the Hurricanes are ranked 23rd in offense so all things considered, Holtby is a solid play in all formats.

Semyon Varlamov FD - $8200 DK - $8200
Opponent - CHI
Proj Pts FD - 18.22 DK - 4.56

The Avalanche are only one point out of both Wild Card Spots in the Western Conference and the veteran tender looks like he is ready to go this evening after he was sick last game. Varly has been superb at home this season as he boasts a 16-6-2 record there to go along with a  terrific .930 save % and a 2.36 GAA and overall he has a 2.00 GAA in his last eight games. The Hawks scored six goals against the Jets last night but even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then and they are ranked 20th in offense for the season. The Av's are listed as -210 favorites and they should be highly motivated this evening making Varly a solid play in all formats.

CENTERS

Evgeny Kuznetsov FD - $7500 DK - $6900
Opponent - CAR
Proj Pts FD - 14.09 DK - 4.03

The young superstar has turned it up a couple of notches lately as he is on an impressive six-game point streak with all of them being multi-point efforts as he has five goals and eight assists during that span. What is even more impressive is the fact that he has been shooting the puck more often as he has averaged 3.1 shots per game in his last 16 games which gives him a solid floor as well. Kuznetsov will also have a huge ceiling this evening against the Hurricanes and their 25th-ranked defense so fire him up in all formats.

Stack with: Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom(PP), T.J. Oshie(PP)

Auston Matthews FD - $7800 DK - $7600
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 16.9 DK - 4.82

The sophomore superstar is turning into one of the most consistent players in the league as he has 54 points in 57 games to go along with an average of three shots and one block per game. In his last four games since returning from an injury, he has two goals, two assists, 12 shots, and three blocks and he scored a goal on six shots on Feb. 22nd vs the Isles and their awful league-worst defense. Look for the Leafs to score early and often this evening so fire up Matthews in all formats.

Stack with: William Nylander, Zach Hyman

Brayden Point FD - $6500 DK - $5900
Opponent - NYR
Proj Pts FD - 14.54 DK - 4.11

The former Moose Jaw Warrior hasn't been great lately but he still has a goal, three assists, 12 shots, and six blocks in his last four games while averaging around 20 minutes of ice time. I love paying attention to the Lightning's second line while they're playing on the road because the other team tried very hard to shut down their potent #1 line and this guy centers the #2 line and the #2 powerplay unit. The Rangers are ranked 26th defensively and the Lightning are simply too powerful for them so lock and load Point in all formats.

Stack with: Yanni Gourde, Tyler Johnson

WINGERS

Vladimir Tarasenko FD - $12100 DK - $6800
Opponent - VEG
Proj Pts FD - 17.34 DK - 5.04

This guy is one of the most elite snipers in the game and he has been lighting the lamp often lately as he has four goals on ten shots during his current three-game point streak which now gives him 31 goals and 31 assists in 74 games this season. Tarasenko also has an elite 3.86 shot per game average giving him a very high floor and although the Golden Knights are ranked seventh defensively, the options are thin today so this guy is a terrific GPP play and a decent cash game play.

Stack with: Brayden Schenn, Jaden Schwartz

Mitchell Marner FD - $6800 DK - $6200
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 12.65 DK - 3.64

It's pick on the Islanders day as they're ranked dead last in the league defensively. Marner plays on the #2 line and the #1 powerplay unit for the Leafs and he is on a very impressive 10-game points streak with four goals and 10 assists to go along with 25 shots and seven blocks during that span. The Leafs are looking to finish the season strong and Marner could go wild tonight against a brutal Islanders defense making him an elite play in all formats.

Stack with: Patrick Marleau, Nazem Kadri

Alex Tuch FD - $3800 DK - $4900
Opponent - STL
Proj Pts FD - 8.56 DK - 2.52

Some players are simply too cheap for what they provide us and Tuch is no exception as he has two powerplay goals and a whopping eleven shots in his last two games while playing on the #1 and the #1 powerplay unit. The Blues are ranked fourth defensively but Tuch is a great value play in all formats as he allows us to spend up elsewhere.

Stack with: Jonathan Marchessault, William Karlsson

DEFENSEMEN

Victor Hedman FD - $6400 DK - $6200
Opponent - NYR
Proj Pts FD - 14.71 DK - 4.38

We should be able to spend up in one of our defense spots today and this guy plays on the #1 powerplay unit and he has 58 points in 72 games while averaging just under three shots per game. In his last two games, Hedman has two goals, a powerplay assist, four shots, and two blocks while averaging 24.5 minutes of ice-time and the Rangers are ranked 26th in defense so fire Hedman up in all formats.

Adam Pelech FD - $3500 DK - $3100
Opponent - TOR
Proj Pts FD - 6.54 DK - 1.92

I don't think I have mentioned this guy before but I think Chris has a couple of times. He has been solid lately as he had an assist last game and he has 13 shots and 16 blocks in his last five games. He doesn't offer much upside but he has a ton of safety at these minimum prices on both sites so lock him into your cash game lineups this evening.
