Hockey Picks Daily Fantasy Expert Advice
Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 1/15/17
Hello everyone and welcome to another day of NHL action here at DFSR. Today, we have a small four game-slate on tap for us with the main slate starting at 1 pm et on both sites. There are no teams playing in a back-to-back scenario, so all of the teams will be well rested and ready to go. Let's get started with some picks, shall we?
Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

GOALIE
Jonathan Bernier FD - $7800 DK - $7400
Opponent - ANA
Proj Pts FD - 15.07 DK - 3.77
Okay, so Vegas currently has the Ducks listed as -125 road favorites, but their offense is ranked 25th overall and the Avalanche have won their last six games while scoring 26 goals and allowing only nine during that span. I just don't get it and this guy has been one of the hottest goalies on the planet recently as he has won his last five starts while earning a 1.33 GAA and an absurd .960 save % during those five games. What makes me like this guy, even more, this evening is the fact that he used to play for the Ducks and he already defeated them once this season while allowing only one goal and that was in Anaheim. I expect the Avalanche to be moderate home favorites when it's all said and done and with all of these things considered, Bernier is an elite play and my top goalie in all formats.
Also Consider: Anton Khudobin(BOS)
CENTERS
Patrice Bergeron FD - $7800 DK - $7200
Opponent - DAL
Proj Pts FD - 15.28 DK - 4.6
There are some tough defenses in action today, but after digging a little deeper, there are a couple of guys with easier matchups than you would normally think at first glance. The Stars are ranked 12th overall defensively, but they do not travel well as they are ranked 21st in defense away from home and their backup goalie will be between the pipes this evening. Bergeron isn't a stranger at DFSR and he is on a current five-game streak with an impressive six goals and three assists and he has averaged 4.13 shots per game in his last 15. This is just the kind safety and upside we are looking for and he plays on the #1 line and the #1 powerplay unit, so fire the superstar up in all formats.
Stack with: Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak
Mathew Barzal FD - $5600 DK - $5800
Opponent - MON
Proj Pts FD - 9.57 DK - 2.76
You would think that the Canadiens would have solid defensive numbers since Carey Price is their goalie, but even he can't save this team this year as their defense is ranked 22nd and is equivalent to a pile of garbage. I am a Habs fan and I'm too embarrassed to wear anything with their symbol on my body in public until they get things in order. Anyways, this guy centers the second line for the Islanders and he recorded five points last game(his entire line scored 12) and he has seven points and eight shots in his last two, and he joins John Tavares and company on the #1 powerplay unit. At these prices, Barzal is a solid play in all formats against Montreal(I'm done talking about their awful defense).
Stack with: Jordan Eberle, Anthony Beauvillier
Also Consider: Nathan Mackinnon(COL)
WINGERS
Max Pacioretty FD - $6500 DK - $6400
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 13.64 DK - 3.99
It feels like every Montreal player is currently playing to save their job as they've actually picked up the pace offensively recently and "Captain Max" has finally risen from the dead(Rhetorically). The veteran winger is currently on a four-game point streak with three goals and an assist, and he has fired a whopping 20 shots on goal in those four games. The Habs get a juicy matchup this evening as the Islanders are ranked dead last defensively while allowing 3.61 goals per game, so look for Pacioretty and friends to score a few goals this evening and he is a great play in all formats.
Stack with: Charles Hudon, Paul Byron
Jake DeBrusk FD - $4300 DK - $4200
Opponent - DAL
Proj Pts FD - 8.87 DK - 2.55
I know I recommended Bergeron already, but like I said earlier, there are a lot of tough matchups today, so let's go with another Bruin who plays on the #2 line and the #2 powerplay unit and he is simply too cheap considering his recent production. In his last three games, the rookie has two goals, two assists, and seven shots while averaging 15 minutes of ice-time. I love using both Bergeron and DeBrusk in cash games and stacking each line in GPP formats.
Stack with: David Krejci, Ryan Spooner
Also Consider: Alex Galchenyuk(MON)
DEFENSEMEN
Brent Burns FD - $7400 DK - $7200
Opponent - LA
Proj Pts FD - 16.23 DK - 4.92
This is deja-vu for me as both of these guys appeared in my most recent article on Saturday. Don't fix what ain't broken and let's start with this bearded wonder who we can't fade currently in a massive slate, let alone a tiny one like this. The veteran superstar tallied three assists last game to extend his streak to five games(a goal, six assists) and he fired six shots on goal to give him 32 in his last six games. That is ridiculous in a good way and even though the Kings own the league's best defense, Burns is matchup-proof and for me, he is impossible to fade in any format.
Patrik Nemeth FD - $3900 DK - $3800
Opponent - ANA
Proj Pts FD - 7.31 DK - 2.09
This will be the third time in a row that I've written about this guy and he is still dirt cheap on both sites, so let's take advantage of the situation once again. He has found a home in Colorado where he gets to play every night and he has points in two straight games, but where he is money is in the blocked shots category where he has 47 in his last ten games. That must be painful for him, but not for us as we get to watch our fantasy point total rise every time he takes one for the team. Nemeth has safety written all over him, so lock him into your cash game lineups folks.
Also Consider: Drew Doughty(LA) GPP formats, Alec Martinez(LA) Cash game formats.
