The Nationals are a very potent offense, starting with Trea Turner in the leadoff spot. Turner is one of the more electric young player sI have ever watched and I think he may end up being one of the best players in the MLB. He has a rare power and speed combo that is extremely rare to see from a middle infielder. He hits righties well (.386 wOBA) and is just as smart as he is talented. You then get a guy like that on-base for the likes of Daniel Murphy and Bryce Harper, who should be getting 100% of the pitcher's attention. Fortunately or Unfortunately for the pitcher, Trea Turner is not going to allow that. He is a lock to steal 2nd if he gets on base and will try to go to 3rd if the situation calls for it. We know what we're getting with Harper and Murphy. 2 lefty boomsticks that can put 2 in the stands with a blink of an eye. We're then going to have Zimmerman or Lind at 1st, who are both quality plays. Brian Goodwin has been seeing the top of the order against righties and makes for a nice play if he's there once again. The Nats are a team that gives you production from a few players and you can generally figure out who those guys are going to be. They face off with Julio Teheran, who we touched on a ton in the main picks article. He is absolutely horrible against lefties and is currently hold a .397 wOBA against them. It's always been a big problem for Tehran and it looks like he's far from over it. All in all, the Nats are a stack you can target in both cash games and tournaments.
Main Stack - Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, Daniel Murphy, Ryan Zimmerman
Sneaky Stack - Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, Daniel Murphy, Brian Goodwin
If you don't want to ride the Nationals wave for whatever reason or feel like getting a bit risky, the Twins are one of the top offenses on this entire slate. They hold a 5.67 implied run total and Vegas thinks they'll put a hurting on the Mariners today. I agree, as Sam Gaviglio is not a good pitcher. He's 27 and seeing his first action in the majors. He;s not a big prospect and has bounced around the minors for years to no avail. He's finally getting a shot and it's expected that he will struggle. He's been slightly worse against righties and it makes Sano and Dozier amazing plays. They are 2 of the top plays on the entire slate and should be over 30% owned. Fortunately for us, they will not be. They will be closer to 15% and can easily boost you to the top of a leaderboard. Once you get past those 2 superstars, there are a lot of different ways to go. I tend to stay away from Mauer, as you can usually find a guy with quite a bit more upside at the 1st base position. Kennys Vargas, Robbie Grossman, and Max Kepler have a ton of power against righties and any of them can come through with 2 HR out of nowhere. While the Nationals are still my favorite stack of the day, the Twins should be a bit less popular and have just as much upside.
Main Stack - Miguel Sano, Brian Dozier, Robbie Grossman, Max Kepler
Sneaky Stack - Miguel Sano, Brian Dozier, Kennys Vargas, Jason Castro
