The Tigers are the lucky crew that gets to take on James Shields for the first time of the year. If you read the picks article, I touched on a few of these guys. James Shields is absolutely atrocious against both sides of the plate and hasn't shown any signs of improvement. In 2016, Shields allowed a .384 wOBA to righties and a .370 to lefties. Both of those numbers are absolutely horrible and close to league-bottom for qualified starters. His increasing age and decreasing velocity suggests things may only get worse for Shields. The Tigers definitely aren't the team to mess with. While they do have some uncertain bats in the back of the order, the top half is great. Victor Martinez is catcher-eligible on FanDuel and is a guy you should be playing. Miggy Cabrera is still a top 3 pure hitter in baseball and can easily take Shields deep here. After those 2, I don't mind mixing and matching a little bit. Ian Kinsler and Castellanos is where I would go for cash. In tournaments, McCann and Collins are really cheap and have good match-ups. U.S. Cellular Field is a + hitters park and the Tigers should put on a show today.
Main Stack - Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez, Ian Kinsler, Nick Castellanos
Contrarian Stack - Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez, Tyler Collins, James McCann
This one is pretty simple. Whatever team Jered Weaver is facing every 5 days is a near-lock to make this article. Jered Weaver and James Shields similar in one way. They are both extremely bad against everyone. Like Shields, Weaver gave up crazy numbers to both sides of the plate in 2016. With an exact .365 wOBA against both sides of the plate, you can have your choosing with this Dodgers lineup. Corey Seager and Adrian Gonzalez are the two main cash game plays. They are both extremely solid against right-handed pitching and won't be fooled in the slightest by Weaver. Andrew Toles and Justin Turner are the 2 next safest options, but will be highly owned. Joc Pederson and Yasmani Grandal both have a ton of upside and won't be nearly as highly-owned in the bottom of the order. Jered Weaver will be out of the game early and then the Dodgers will be able to feast on the weak bullpen. Both the Tigers and Dodgers are safe with a ton of upside, so it'll be interesting to see how ownership ends up at a spot like first base or shortstop. Corey Seager in particular is my favorite play of the day without price considered.
Main Stack - Corey Seager, Adrian Gonzalez, Andrew Toles, Justin Turner
Contrarian Stack - Corey Seager, Adrian Gonzalez, Joc Pederson, Yasmani Grandal

On the late or "main" slate, you don't have a ton to choose from. Ariel Miranda is the worst pitcher on the slate and will therefore be looking at the Astros. On the surface, Miranda seems to be a guy who dominates righties. As soon as you look into it at all, you see how big of a mirage it is. In 2016, he held a .297 wOBA against right handers that was deflated by an insane .183 BABIP. With an adjusted BABIP to around .300, Miranda sees his wOBA slide to .341. This isn't a good pitcher and these marquee right-handers on the Astor should be able to produce. While they all carry a pretty healthy amount of risk, Altuve and Correa are my favorite. They both destroy left-handed pitching and have good chances for a HR with the Crawford boxes in left. There are a lot of ways to go with the 2 spots after that. You can look to the top of the order with George Springer and Alex Bregman or lower with Gattis and Beltran. The Astros are extremely lethal and the runs can come from anywhere in the lineup. For this reason, you have to love the contrarian Astros stack.
Main Stack - Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, George Springer, Carlos Beltran
Contrarian Stack - Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, Evan Gattis, Yulieski Gurriel
