Tonight is going to be really interesting. Kyrie missed last game, and the other 2 big guys will sit tonight as well. With all 3 of them out, I think a few guys will step up. Tristan Thompson and Iman Shumpert are my favorite, and I think both guys make great plays across the board. Outside of them, DeAndre Liggins, Channing Frye and J.R. Smith will all get a good amount of action. They can all be played in tournaments and they all have upside.
This is somewhat the same situation, just to a lesser degree. Cousins is a huge usage guy, and Rudy Gay is number. McLemore doesn't get quite as much usage, but he still gets minutes. I think Darren Collison is my favorite play, and both Barnes and Casspi will get a lot of minutes as well. Anyone that gets minutes has upside against the Rockets defense, and they are all plenty cheap.
Isaiah Thomas has been out for 3 games, and will miss at least 1 more. Marcus Smart will get most of the minutes, and is a pretty interesting play tonight. The Spurs do run out a good defense, but the one spot you can attack them is point guard. I think I will reserve Smart for tournaments, but I don't mind him in cash games.
Aldridge plays up and down minutes, but hasn't missed but a few games so far. He will sit this one out, and we can look at a couple different guys to benefit. Pau Gasol and Kawhi Leonard are my favorite two, and I think they both pick up about 20% more minutes.
Oladipo will be held out for another game, and I guess that means Russel Westbrook will pick up more usage. He already has the highest usage of all time in the NBA, so I don't think it will climb too much higher. Anthony Morrow will also get some minutes, but he is extremely scoring reliant and this match up is not a great one.
Goran Dragic
Dragic has been running this offense extremely well of late and he seems like he is just seeing the court perfectly. The Heat take on the Pacers today, who play extremely fast. Jeff Teague is an above average man to man defender, but Dragic will be switch 70% of the time with a screen. Dragic has shown great upside this year and I think this is a game where it could flash again. He has always excelled in fast pace match ups and has n problem running the floor and making things happen.
The Cavs have no problem running out Thompson for 35 minutes, and you love to see that out of a big man. The Grizzlies do have an interior, but Thompson can rebound with the best of them and will be forced out there for along time. He may also be forced to get involved on the offense, with all of the big 3 out. Thompson is as safe as it gets, and with Cousins out, I don't think the opportunity cost is too much.
