Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 12/13/16

Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings 12/13/16

Welcome back to another busy Tuesday night in the National Hockey league. Tonight is definitely not as straight forward as it appears as the Carolina Hurricanes are currently the biggest favorite(-180) on the slate which says something as they sit near the bottom of the league in the standings. What this slate does offer is a wide range of goaltending options that won't come too high owned tonight for GPP's. The trick will be finding the most stable and safe option for cash games. Let's take a look.

Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. GOALIES

Devan Dubnyk FD - $9100 DK - $8100
Opponent - FLA
Proj Pts FD - 17.9 DK - 4.48

If he is confirmed starting today I think he is the clear cash game option. He and the Wild are home favorites(-140) to the visiting Panthers and their 23rd ranked offense. Het gets overlooked in some circles as he has the comfort of the league's top defense in front of him but he has been nothing but elite this season with a .946 save %, good enough to lead the league through 22 starts. He has also been hot lately going 7-1-2 over his last 10 starts, holding the opponent to under three goals in eight of those starts. Lock and load.

Cam Ward FD - $8300 DK - $7700
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 18.07 DK - 4.52

If there were ever a time to jump on Cam Ward in your tournament lineups, tonight is the night. Like I mentioned in the opening, the Canes are the biggest favorites on the board(-180) as they welcome the Canucks who have been awful on the road this year(4-10-1). Ward has definitely not been consistent this year but most of his struggles have come away from PNC Arena. At home, he has been brilliant going 6-2 with 1.64 GAA and very impressive .941 save percentage.

Also Consider: Jimmy Howard (DET)

CENTERS

Ryan Kesler FD - $7000 DK - $6900
Opponent - DAL
Proj Pts FD - 14.78 DK - 4.56

Call me crazy bu I will be avoiding McDavid tonight in a tough matchup against a Top 3 defensive team in the Blue Jackets. Instead, I will be turning my attention to the next tier and loading up on Ryan Kesler and the Ducks offense tonight. Kesler has been red hot lately with points in five straight and eight of his last nine games while skating on the second line. He also skates on the Ducks top powerplay unit with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry.Kesler is safe in all formats.

Stack With: Jakob Silfverberg, Andrew Cogliano

Jeff Carter FD - $7300 DK - $6800
Opponent - BUF
Proj Pts FD - 15.07 DK - 4.55

Carter is another player who comes with safety for all formats but also has big multi point upside for tournaments. Seven times this year he has recorded multiple points in a game and leads the Kings with 22 points through 27 games. He has also been playing some of his best hockey recently with 11 of those points coming in the last 10 games including five points with the man advantage and one short handed goal. The floor is very high with Carter as he averages over three shots on goal per game.

Stack with: Tanner Pearson, Tyler Toffoli

Devin Shore FD - $3400 DK - $3700
Opponent - ANA
Proj Pts FD - 7.62 DK - 2.23

If you are playing some big name players tonight you will once again need some salary relief options. The best source of this value comes with young players who are steadily receiving an increased role in the offense. Enter Devin Shore. He came through the college pipeline at the University of Maine and was just under a point per game player in three season before going to the AHL Texas Stars where he also averaged a point per game. He is now in his first full season in the NHL and impressing so far with 13 points in 30 games including five in his last four games. He is skating on the third line but is getting over two minutes per game on the second powerplay unit. At his price, he is safe in all formats.

PP Stack with: Patrick Eaves, Jason Spezza

WINGERS

Joe Pavelski FD - $7900 DK - $7400
Opponent - TOR
Proj Pts FD - 15.99 DK - 5.31

This Sharks/Leafs matchup could be one of the higher scoring games of the entire slate so exposure is a must. Start with Joe Pavelski who comes in tied with Brent Burns for the team lead(25) and comes with a nice little discount off the elite options tonight(Ovi, McDavid). Pavelski has tallied nine points in his last 10 games, including five on the powerplay, and has provided a very high floor with 40 shots on goal in that time. The Sharks powerplay should get a few extra opportunities tonight as the Leafs sit 7th in the league in penalty minutes per game. Pavelski is safe in all formats.

PP Stack with: Logan Couture, Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Brent Burns

Jeff Skinner FD - $6600 DK - $6300
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 14.47 DK - 4.31

The Hurricanes are in a great spot tonight and make a high upside and very affordable team to target. The are big home favorites(-180) to the Canucks who come in with a struggling road record(4-10-1) and have allowed three or more goals in three of their last four games away from home. Despite a struggling offense, Skinner has enjoyed success with 22 points this season and offers a high floor averaging over 3.5 shots on goal per game. All things considered, Skinner is safe in all formats.

Stack with: Victor Rask, Derek Ryan

Marcus Johansson FD - $5000 DK - $5800
Opponent - NYI
Proj Pts FD - 10.6 DK - 3.17

Johansson is enjoying another successful season for the Caps with 21 points in 27 games. He is currently skating on the second line with Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie with his biggest value coming on the powerplay where he skates with Ovi. He should only be considered in tournaments as a value or stacking option as he averages less than two shots on goal per game but has big upside vs. the Islanders 23rd ranked defense.

PP Stack with: Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, T.J. Oshie

DEFENSEMEN
Brent Burns FD - $8300 DK - $8600
Opponent - TOR
Proj Pts FD - 21.39 DK - 6.96

If you are rolling with value at goalie tonight you should most definitely consider Burns in all formats. He is an elite play on FanDuel as the 6th most expensive skater and is still in play on DraftKings as the most expensive. He is probably the safest fantasy player out there as he not only provides huge multi point upside and heavy usage, he also has the safest floor of any player averaging close to 4.5 shots on goal and 1.9 blocks per game. Oh ya, he also gets an elite matchup vs. the Leafs 27th ranked defense. Moving on.

Jaccob Slavin FD - $3500 DK - $3900
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 8.57 DK - 2.42

Of all the Hurricanes players in a great matchup tonight, none have a higher PTS/$ value than Slavin. He is playing over 23 minutes a game, getting time on the powerplay and has been very productive lately for a player under $4K on both sites. He has tallied five points(2 on PP) in his last 10 games with just 15 shots and 23 blocks to add to his overall value. Don't think, just click!
