Welcome back for another night of daily fantasy hockey picks with DFSR. There are 10 games on the NHL schedule tonight with just one team(ARI) playing on back to back nights. Let's take a look at some of the top plays from our projection system.
Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. Rask has been absolutely amazing to start the year with an impressive 10-1 record, 1.54 GAA and .945 save percentage. He has been even more impressive on the road as he is undefeated with a 7-0 record and .956 save percentage. He will have a decent shot at adding to his totals tonight in a projected low scoring game but will be on the GPP only radar for a few reasons. First of all, the Bruins are slight underdogs although I do believe that could change as we get closer to puck drop. The other reason is that Rask is facing under 28 shots on goal per 60 minutes which really limits the floor for cash games.

The Devils(9-3-3) and the Ducks(8-6-3) have very similar records early in the season and will square off on Thursday night. Both teams have been excellent at home while struggling on the road. The good news for John Gibson is the Ducks are at home tonight as -170 favorites giving him a great shot at hitting his fantasy value on both sites. I would normally only consider him in GPP's as he faces under 30 shots per game but he should get a boost tonight as the Devils rank 6th in shots for per game. I will be using Gibson in all formats.
Also Consider: Craig Anderson(OTT)
Opponent - COL
Proj Pts FD - 18.21 DK - 5.85
Before a close loss in overtime to the Devils last time out, the Stars offense was really building momentum. They had scored 11 goals in their previous three games with the top line, specifically Seguin, leading the way with six points in those games. Through 17 games he has now recorded 20 points which is currently tied for 2nd overall in the league. The Stars get a slight boost in matchup tonight as the Avs rank 22nd in both total defense and penalty kill percentage.
Stack With: Patrick Eaves, Jamie Benn(PP)
Opponent - PHI
Proj Pts FD - 15.03 DK - 4.79
I am going back to the "Flyers have no defense" mentality tonight. As a fan of the Flyers it has been painful to watch the horrific save % and lack of defense while watching a high powered offense get wasted. The total between the Flyers and their opponents has reached five or more goals in 11 straight and 16 of their 17 games this season. This gives a nice boost to the leagues points leader(21) who has lead the Jets to the second best record in the Western Conference. He has also added an impressive +10 rating with five points on the powerplay.
PP Stack with: Nikolaj Ehlers, Patrick Laine
Opponent - TOR
Proj Pts FD - 14.05 DK - 4.44
Another top line center in a favorable situation on Thursday night. Barkov and the Panthers Top 10 offense will travel to Toronto to face the Leafs and their 28th ranked defense. Despite not recording a point the whole team should be riding a high after delivering Carey Price with his first loss of the season on Tuesday. He is nowhere near his pace of last season where he recorded a career high 59 points but has also seen his salary drop into the mid $5K range opening up a ton of value.
Stack with: Jaromir Jagr, Jonathan Marchessault
Opponent - WPG
Proj Pts FD - 15.23 DK - 5.01
Since coming over to the Flyers back in '11-'12 season Simmonds has been an all around force recording 49 or more points four times and the only season he didn't was the injury shortened '12-'13 season. He is on pace to reach those levels once again after a terrific start in which he has scored eight goals and added seven assists through 17 games of the season. He plays on the top line and powerplay unit with superstar Claude Giroux and the two have helped the Flyers to the leagues fourth best offense. After a bit of a dud by the powerplay last time out I am fully expecting another high scoring game vs. the Jets who take over 10 minutes in penalties a game.
Stack with: Brayden Schenn, Claude Giroux
Opponent - FLA
Proj Pts FD - 9.53 DK - 2.9
The 2015 fourth overall pick is proving he belongs in the show alongside first overall pick Auston Matthews. The Leafs have a lot to look forward too in the future, at least from an offensive standpoint. Marner has already recorded 15 points this season playing on the second line with JVR and Bozak and is playing over two minutes per game on the powerplay. He is also coming in red hot with multiple point efforts in four of his last six games. The matchup isn't the best but the price is what I am concentrating on tonight. He does offer a nice floor as well with close to three shots on goal per game.
Stack with: Tyler Bozak, James Van Riemsdyk
Opponent - VAN
Proj Pts FD - 8.91 DK - 2.7
If yo wanna go even cheaper at one of your wing positions tonight take a look at Vrbata who gets the revenge narrative returning to the home of his former team. He is in a much better place after leaving Vancouver as it was a frustrating season where he only recorded 27 points with an ugly -30 rating. He is almost halfway to those totals already this season with 11 points through 15 games with Arizona. He is also getting heavy usage on the powerplay.
Stack with: Jamie McGinn, Jordan Martinook
Opponent - NAS
Proj Pts FD - 15.26 DK - 5.14
Looking at the elite defense options tonight it is Karlsson who stands out from a PTS/$ value perspective. He sits in the low $7K range on both sites and is coming in hot with points in three straight games. The reason he garners an elite price tag is the safety he provides to his fantasy owners in terms of shots and blocks and outside of Brent Burns has the highest upside of any man on the point.
Opponent - WPG
Proj Pts FD - 8.65 DK - 2.67
Until his price gets to a spot in the mid $4K range he will be a top value play night in and night out. He currently doesn't provide much in terms of offensive upside but stay patient, it's coming. What he does provide is a very high floor for the price with blocks and shots. Over the last five games he has been averaging three shots on goal per game and has been playing 20+ minutes and getting time on the second powerplay unit.
Also Consider: Keith Yandle(FLA)
