In case you didn’t notice, we just released our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.
Week 9 NFL Stacks
This week, as with every week, I started with the Player Lab tool and didn't get very far into the filters before narrowing the field down. This week there are two games with 50+ "High Vegas O/U" and just three Quarterbacks facing teams ranked high in "High Opp Allowed Pace". Let's dig in and take look at these terrific stacking opportunities.
New Orleans Saints vs. San Francisco 49ers
QB - Drew Brees
Elite Options - Brandin Cooks
Value Options - Michael Thomas
The trend continues for the Saints as it has for a few years now. A bad defense is forcing Drew Brees and the offense to be extremely pass happy as they trail their opponent more times than not. This shouldn't be the case this week against a 49ers team that sits with a 1-6 record and poor -75 scoring differential. Despite all that the Saints still only sit as a 4.5 point road favorite which falls on the back of said bad defense. The projections have Brees projected for 45 pass attempts this week and while that seems high consider that he has chucked it 42+ times in five of his seven games this season. It also helps that the Saints run game is a complete mess as Mark Ingram and Tim Hightower will be splitting carries going forward. The thing I like most about this matchup is that the 49ers rank 27th in Defense vs. the Pass and allow their opponents to run 70+ plays per game when looking at the Player Lab tool. On the high end I like pairing Brees with his #1 option Brandin Cooks who has scored in three straight games. For value I am going to lean on Michael Thomas as he comes a bit cheaper than Willie Snead and trails Cooks by only one target this season. This will be a scenario where I pair Brees with both WR's on a few lineups as I am expecting a shootout.
Green Bay Packers
QB - Aaron Rodgers
Elite Options - Jordy Nelson
Value Options - Davante Adams
Taking a look at the other game projected for 50+ points is the Indianapolis Colts traveling to Green Bay to face the Packers. For fantasy purposes I will be siding with Aaron Rodgers who is red hot right now and throwing touchdowns to anyone wearing a green and gold jersey. He proved it last week. Without the services of Ty Montgomery and Randall Cobb he threw touchdowns to Jeff Janis, Trevor Davis and Geronimo Allison. Montgomery is expected back from illness but Cobb remains as a game tie decision which puts a ton of emphasis on #1 option Jordy Nelson who could be in for a big day. Due to Rodgers ability to spread the ball around, Nelson has only seen double digit targets twice this season but has made the most of them with six touchdowns. He will also get a huge boost if Colts star corner Vontae Davis is ruled out as he is currently in the leagues concussion protocol. If you are looking to save a few dollars and double stack WR's consider Devante Adams who had caught 15 of an amazing 20 targets over the past two weeks with two trips to the endzone.
San Francisco 49ers
QB - Colin Kaepernick
Value Options - Jeremy Kerley, Torrey Smith
After going through two stacking options that you already feel warm and fuzzy about I am going to drop the hammer with the 49ers offense. Before you cal me crazy once again consider a few things first. First of all, looking at the Player Lab tool he is involved in one of two games projected for over 50 points and more importantly facing a defense who is allowing a high pace. Speaking of pace, both teams teams allow their opponents 64 or more plays per game so we most definitely expect fast exciting football on both sides. Since returning as the starting QB, Colin Kaepernick has thrown for one touchdown in each game and has been limited to under 200 yards in both but has taken advantage with his legs rushing 17 times for 150 yards. The 49ers are under dogs to a powerful Saints offense this week so can easily project Kaep for 35+ pass attempts and it is very likely he contributes multiple touchdowns either through the air or on the ground. There isn't a dominant WR option in the offense but for safety it's best to roll with Kerley who leads the team with 57 targets(8.1 per week). If you are looking for the home run play take a look at Torrey Smith who isn't getting the volume but is the speedster deep threat that Kaep will try and find through some play action passes. It would only take one long bomb to hit value at his current price.
Philadelphia Eagles
QB - Carson Wentz
Elite Options - Jordan Matthews
Value Option - Zach Ertz
On a smaller slate with six teams on a bye this week going contrarian can pay off even more as the top two stack will be very popular. The Eagles are another one of those contrarian options this week. Since opening the season with multiple touchdowns or 300 yards passing in four straight games, Wentz has struggled over his last three games. He has completed just 59 of 93 pass attempts for 519 passing yards and just two touchdowns. So what is there to like this week? I am glad you asked. He gets a tremendous matchup v. the Eagles division rival the New York Giants who are allowing the highest pace to opponents(71.4 plays per game) of any team on the slate. The Over/Under is only projected for around 43 at this time, Friday morning, but the spread is tight which is why we see a projections 35+ pass attempts for Wentz. His top option this season has been WR Jordan Matthews who is coming off a season high 14 targets and is averaging just under eight per week. At TE you can also consider Zach Ertz as a punt option at a very low price on both sites. He has struggled in 2016 as he and Carson Wentz haven't shown great chemistry but he has all the talent in the world and torched the Giants in their last meeting at the end of last season to the tune of nine catches for 152 yards.
Honorable Mentions: Dallas Cowboys(Prescott/Bryant), Carolina Panthers(Newton/Benjamin)
