Daily Fantasy Football Running Back Plays for FanDuel and DraftKings - Week 8 10/30/16

There are a number of injury pieces this week vaulting some cheap running backs into fantastic situations.

We covered our main cash game plays in our Week 8 Picks where we touched on David Johnson, and Devonta Freeman. For this piece we will touch on some of the other strong plays to consider on a week chock full of RB's.

You can still access our NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

This one isn’t any kind of sneaky play at all and would have been in the main picks article had we had C.J. Anderson news before posting over there. Booker is the exact situation you are looking for in DFS. He’s a punt play style running back in line for a huge bump in usage and volume without the price coming anywhere close to catching up. He was already cutting into C.J. Anderson’s workload and then put up a nice 17/83/1 line in Week 7 against the Texans. There are also targets out of the backfield and we’ve seen the Broncos willingness to run the ball. They are favorites against San Diego and Booker will likely be the highest owned player on Sunday. He’s not sneaking up on anyone at this point.

It doesn’t look like Jerick McKinnon is going to play in this one which should open up the bulk of the carries for Asiata. Dude isn’t a good running back by any stretch of the imagination but the Vikings don’t have many other options. He’s only a 3.5 yards per carry guy for his career which isn’t good. But if he’s in line for carries in the high teens along with some usage out of the backfield in the passing game then he makes for a super cheap option. The price is super low on both sites with the Vikings solid -4 favorites at home against the Bears. It’s a Monday night game which takes him off the main slate consideration, but for that short afternoon slate he makes for a fantastic value if McKinnon sits.

With all of the RB value (and just value in general) Rodgers ends up falling into somewhat of a DFS no man's land at these prices. Peyton Barber cut into the production some last week so I don't think we can count on him being a 30 carry guy or anything, but man he still saw 26 looks in Week 7 with a couple of targets. The Raiders rank 27th in DVOA against the run this season and the Bucs are favored in the matchup. They've shown a willingness to control the ball on the ground for Jameis and I think they'll continue that approach here. Rodgers likely becomes an odd man out with all of the other ways to go at RB this week, but I could see him with huge upside in a tournament.

Matt Jones is going to sit for the early Sunday London game. My feelings about these ill-timed games aside, there will be opportunity for one of these running backs to emerge. Right now Kelley is getting the reps with the first team in practice, but Thompson is slightly more established in Washington. It wouldn’t shock me to see the latter out touch Kelley. Thompson also adds value with his pass-catching ability averaging more than 4.5 targets over the last four games. Cincy is a solid defense against the run which tempers my excitement across the board for these guys, but the price is worth considering.
