Welcome back for another night of daily fantasy hockey. After a fairly slow Wednesday night we are back with a big nine game slate tonight. There are three teams(NYI, MON, NSH) who are playing on back to back night with the Habs also playing a third game in four nights. There is definitely some potential for high scoring tonight with some high powered offenses going up against some of the weaker defensive teams. Let's dig in and highlight some of the top plays from the projections.
Hockey is back and with it come our NHL projections which help inform these picks every night. When you purchase a DFSR NHL subscription to our base hockey projections you also get access to our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

It has been and up and down start to the season for Martin Jones who sits with an even 3-3 record with a less than impressive .899 save percentage. Why is he my #1 goalie tonight if he is starting? Break down the numbers a little more and you will notice he has struggled on the road in four starts going 1-3 but has been dominant at home. He has won both home starts against tough divisional competition in the Ducks and Kings and has only allowed two goals. He will get another shot to add to those home splits tonight vs. the Blue Jackets who are currently ranked 24th in offense scoring just 2.6 goals per game. the win potential is huge as the Sharks are -215 home favorites. If Jones is back between the pipes tonight he is an elite play in all formats.

The Penguins are another huge home favorite tonight(-210) as Fleury was just confirmed starting. He is going to be a GPP play going forward until he can show us some consistency. He has allowed four or more goals in three of his seven starts but two or less in the three games. He will be in a favorable situation tonight vs. the Islanders who rank in the middle of the pack in offense(2.86 goals per game) and is playing the back end of a back to back on the road.
Also Consider: Steve Mason (PHI)

The Flyers offense has had to come out flying to start the season as their young defensive core is currently allowing just over 3.5 goals against per game. Giroux has lead the way as he has now picked up points in six straight games and while he has yet to score he has been an elite setup man with eight assists. He not only plays the heavy minutes on the top line but also gets big usage on the powerplay. Things are lining up for another high scoring game as the Flyers will get an elite home matchup vs. the Coyotes who are giving up a league worst 4.33 goals per game.

Speaking of play makers enter Joe Thornton. Looking back over the past 10 years he has lead all players in assists(520) and sits third in points behind only Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. You should be able to get him at a low ownership tonight as he has gone three straight games without ta point but has five assists in the four games prior to that while centering the top line with elite goal scorer Joe Pavelski. Stacking the line tonight is a high upside play and very affordable as Mikkel Boedker is very cheap and was moved up with Joe and Joe last game.

If you are looking to stack some top forwards and a top goalie tonight take shot with Ritchie as your second center. He comes at a sub $4K price on both sites and while he is playing the third line he is averaging over three minutes per contest on the powerplay. Through six games this season he has already recorded six points and while I don't think he will keep up the pace with a low SA/60 rating he appears in a position to continue to get a chance to show his skills.
Stack with: Brett Ritchie

From a PTS/$ perspective Zach Parise is one of the top plays at the wing position on both sites. He has comes out firing this year averaging over 19 SA/60 in all situations so I am fully expecting him to get back to the 25 goal plateau this season. He has two coming into tonight to go along with three assists and gets a nice opportunity to add to those totals against the Sabres.
Stack with: Mikael Granlund, Mikko Koivu

My top two plays at wing tonight are a mix and match depending on the site you are playing. While I prefer Parise on FanDuel where comes at a $300 discount, I will take Forsberg on DraftKings at a $500 discount. He doesn't quite have the shot volume(11.1 SA/60) Parise has this season but the upside is there as he has scored 33 and 26 goals the last two seasons for a defensive minded Preds team. Digging deeper the matchup lines up best on the powerplay for the Preds who are clicking at an elite 41% right now facing a Kings team who is struggling at a 70% penalty kill rate.
PP Stack with: James Neal, Ryan Johansen, Mike Fisher

Another Stars forward providing a salary relief and terrific PTS/$ value tonight. The Stars have been bouncing lines around in effort to make things work as they deal with a barrage of injuries early in the season. Through the shuffle Eaves has seemed to have stuck on a line with Jamie Benn which just gives him added value. The Stars offense is in a great position tonight facing a Jets team that ranks 27th in goals allowed per game(3.67).

Even with an elite price Burns sits as a top PTS/$ value at the D position. He has gone two straight games without a point but has still provided a nice floor with 10 shots and five blocks which makes him matchup proof almost every night. Look for him to get back on the score sheet tonight in a matchup vs. the Blue Jackets.

Proj Pts FD - 8.05 DK - 2.53
I am sticking with the Flyers rookie as he is proving to have a very high floor as a terrific shot blocker. The price is starting to go up but is still in a very favorable spot in a matchup vs. the worst defensive team this season. The Coyotes have allowed over four goals per game while the Flyers are clicking, scoring close to 3.5 goals per game.
Also Consider: Rasmus Ristolainen (BUF)
