Welcome back for another week of daily fantasy football with DFSR. Stacking continues to be the name of the game for tournaments and below I will go through my top four stacks for the week four. I will be using DFSR's Player Lab tool to help narrow down the options to help identify the not only the best stacks but some of the best values within the stacks. Let's dig in!
In case you didn’t notice, we just released our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.
Stack #1 - New England Patriots
QB - Tom Brady
Elite Options - Rob Gronkowski
Value Options - Julian Edelman, Jame White
The Patriots impressed going 3-1 without their star quarterback and tight end to start the season. Since Tom Brady has returned from suspension and Rob Gronkowski returned to full health they now look unstoppable. They have scored 68 points over the past two weeks while Brady has thrown the ball 35+ times in each game and recorded three touchdowns in each with a total of 782 yards through the air. If you think he isn't out there trying to prove he is still the best you aren't watching the games. The happiest man on the planet to see Tom return was elite TE Rob Gronkowski who has caught 12 of his 16 targets over the last weeks for 271 yards and a touchdown. That's an average over 20 yards per catch which can't be faded at this point. Looking at the Player Lab tool there was only one QB who showed up when using the filters above. Even as seven point favorites Brady is expect to chuck it up 40+ times against a Steelers defense that ranks 21st in Defense vs. the Pass. It won't difficult to pay up for Brady & Gronk this week as there are some excellent value RB's this week filling in for injured players. If you can't seem to find the salary to feel comfortable stacking them you can consider some value plays in the passing game as well. James White has been a sneaky play out of the backfield and since Brady returned has received 15 targets the last two weeks, catching 12 for 110 yards and a touchdown. Julia Edelman is most likely going to be really low owned as he has disappointed this season with no 100+ yard games or touchdowns through six weeks. He is still one of Brady's favorite targets over the middle and has targeted him 17 times in the last two weeks. A big game is coming and this week could be it and if you get him at less than 10% ownership it will be win a for everyone!
Stack #2 - San Diego Chargers
QB - Philip Rivers
Elite Options - Travis Benjamin
Value Options - Tyrell Williams, Hunter Henry
For stack #2 you will notice on the Player Lab tool I narrowed the threshold for the "High Vegas O/U" and "Poor Defense vs. Pass" filters which give me three quarterbacks to choose from with Rivers topping the list. The Chargers/Falcons game has the highest Over/Under(54) of the week with the Chargers opening as 5.5 point underdogs. Despite losing his top target Keenan Allen in week 1, Philip Rivers has been very productive completing over 67% of his passes with 12 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He faces a a Falcons team who has averaged around 33 points per game so for the Chargers to keep up in this one they will have to throw throw throw. In fantasy we love this, especially as he will face a team ranked 26th in Defense vs. the Pass on the Player Lab tool with a high 67.33 Opponent Pace Allowed. He has two viable WR options in Benjamin and Williams who have seen very similar usage averaging right around seven receptions per game. Hunter Henry is starting to see his salary rise but continues to prove he is worth it with a touchdown in three straight games with 60 yards in each.
Stack #3 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
QB - Jameis Winston
Elite Options - Mike Evans
Value Options - Cameron Brate
Taking a look at the Wide Receivers on the Player Lab tool this week I set my filters for "High Vegas O/U" at 47+ while also setting the "High Projected Targets" filter at 10+ which spit out just three options in Week 7. While all three are elite options on their respective teams I will lean on Evans and Winston this week due to some injuries. Vincent Jackson was placed on IR this week while RB Doug Martin is expected to miss yet another game for the Bucs. Not that Mike Evans needed help getting targets as he sits behind only Antonio Brown in targets per game(12.3) and has already scored four touchdowns on the season. He is currently projected for 11.5 targets this week and I would not be surprised at all to see 15+ to be honest. Obviously Evans isn't going to get all the targets and if you are looking for some punt value at TE this week consider Cameron Brate who has averaged the 10th most targets per game(5.8) among all tight ends this season.
Stack #4 - Kansas City Chiefs
QB - Alex Smith
Elite Options - Jeremy Maclin
Value Option - Travis Kelce
If you are looking to go off the board and play it a bit contrarian in large field GPP's consider stacking the Chiefs this week. While I don't normally like playing game manager Alex Smith in fantasy, I will take a shot this week as he is in a great spot to put up one of his best performances of the season. The game sits with a high 51 Over/Under while the Saints rank 29th in Defense vs. the Pass on the player Lab tool and allow a very high Opponents Pace Allowed(69 plays per game allowed). The nice part about the Chiefs is when they are forced to pass the ball they have limited options making decision easy of who to stack with the QB. Jeremy Maclin is the #1 option in the pass game and has averaged 9.7 targets per week. He will be low owned as he is coming off a dud last week with just three catches for 49 yards and still only has one touchdown on the season. Another disappointment for the Chiefs last week was TE Travis Kelce's performance as he also only caught three passes. The game flow didn't dictate passing last week as he Chiefs and Spencer Ware ran all over the Raiders. With Drew Brees on the other side of the ball this week I fully trust the Player Lab tool and 35+ pass attempt projection for Smith and the Chiefs. There is always risk in going contrarian but when it works it definitely pays off in a big way .
Honorable Mentions: Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars
