Match-up - J.A. Happ vs. Josh Tomlin
This is not the game for pitching, but there is definitely a reason to look at Happ. Tomlin is not a guy I will consider. He is facing off with a very good offense and has not struck nearly as many batters as we need. Happ, however, is a pretty decent pitcher. He has held a .313 combined wOBA against righties and lefties. The Indians are a very good offense, but can go cold and have some strikeout prone power hitters. The Indians will likely have the 2nd lowest run total on the board, so you have to consider the opposing pitcher. Happ is a guy that will be trusted by the coaching staff to go deep into the game. If he is pitching well, Gibbons has no problem letting him go 8 innings. Happ is a guy I would consider in all formats, though I definitely prefer Lester.
While I do like Happ a little bit, the bats from this game are definitely on my list as well. The Blue Jays especially, as they are playing the worst pitcher on the slate and have an explosive offense. Josh Tomlin has sported a .331 wOBA against righties over the last 2 seasons. My top options from the Blue Jays are going to be Edwin Encarnacion and Josh Donaldson, with Jose Bautista and Michael Saunders following closely behind. On the Indians side of the ball, there is not too much to love. However, I think a few 1 offs in tournaments are very viable. Mike Napoli and Carlos Santana are my favorites, and I would use them in tournaments only. If you are adamant on playing someone in cash games, go with Mike Napoli as he murders left handed pitching.
Match-up - Kenta Maeda vs. Jon Lester
While I mentioned that I like Happ, Lester is on a different level. Lester is my favorite pitcher on this slate, as he will be taking on a Dodgers team that struggles against lefties at home in Wrigley Field. Lester has been phenomenal against both lefties and righties on the season with a .301 wOBA that is held up by strong peripherals and batted ball rates. Maeda however, is not a guy that I like too much. He is facing off with the best offense on the slate and in the entire league, the Chicago Cubs. If that isn't enough, he is held on a short leas and is not trusted by Dave Roberts. In conclusion, Lester is the top pitcher on the slate and Maeda is a guy I will have no exposure to.
Sure, both of these pitchers are pretty good. However, not all pitchers are created equal. Maeda is nowhere near the pitcher that Lester is, and he has had some rough times against both righties and lefties. Due to that, I am a big fan of this Cubs offense. Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo are my 2 favorite bats on this slate, though they are going to cost you a pretty penny. I am not a fan of any hitters on the Dodgers, but Turner would be the guy if I was forced to roster 1. All in all, the Cubs are a fantastic team to roster and the Dodgers are a team I will try my best to stay away from.
