Pitching Targets

Note: We discussed Cole Hamels, Jeff Samardzija and Jose De Leon in the Main Article and will be going over a few more options below.

Jake Arrieta FD 11000 DK 11500
Opponent - PIT (Taillon) Park - @PIT
FD - 36.52 DK - 23.93

Arrieta doesn't rank out as high as others on a PTS/$ basis as he is the most expensive option on the mound today on both sites. After a second half where he has seen his K rate drop by close to two strikeouts per nine he put up a huge effort last time out. He went seven innings of shutout ball against one of the best offenses in baseball and struck out 10 batters while walking just one. It appears he is heating up right in time for the playoff push where the Cubs and their fans feel this could be the year. Even with the Pirates hitting well as a team lately Vegas still favors the pitching as the Pirates are only project for around 3.5 runs tonight. It helps they are home to one of the best pitchers parks in the league.

Francisco Liriano FD 7800 DK 8400
Opponent - BAL (Tillman) Park - @TOR
FD - 29.6 DK - 19.37

I told you in the main article that pitching is pretty thin tonight but you can definitely find some value in Francisco Liriano. He completely turned his season around after being traded to the Blue Jays which is odd as he goes from a terrific pitchers park to one of the worst. With the Pirates he was walking right around 5.5 batters per nine and pitched to a 5.46 ERA and 4.54 xFIP. With the Blue Jays he has brought the walk rate down by close to 2.5 per nine with a much better 3.35 ERA and 3.82 xFIP. The Jays come are currently -140 home favorites facing the dangerous Orioles who are sitting right behind them in the standings. I wouldn't exactly trust him in cash games but if he can limit the walks tonight he makes a great GPP play with big K upside.
