Weekly NFL Stacks for DraftKings and FanDuel - Week 3
The first two weeks of the season are now behind us and while they seemed quite different in how they turned out one thing remained the same. Team stacks have been the centerpiece of the majority of the winning lineups. Week one saw a Brees/Cooks/Snead stack take home the Milli Maker on both FanDuel and DraftKings while week two had a similar feel in that a Newton/Benjamin/Olsen stack hogged all the money on Sunday. Due to the sites taking the MNF game out of the main slate which includes the Milli Makers I will be concentrating on Sunday games only in this article.
In case you didn’t notice, we just released our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.
Week 3 NFL Stacks
Stack #1 - Washington Redskins vs. New York Giants
QB - Kirk Cousins
Elite Options - Desean Jackson, Jordan Reed
Value Options - Jamison Crowder
With all the focus on Odell Beckham Jr. and Josh Norman this weekend I will be looking at the other side of the ball and stacking the Redskins offense in large field tournaments like the Milli Maker. The Giants are -3.5 favorites and if game script goes to plan the Redskins should be forced to throw a ton in the second half just to keep up with the powerful Giants offense. Cousins comes with an excellent value price tag on both sites which will allow to to team stack him with his two favorite targets in WR Desean Jackson and TE Jordan Reed. Jackson will be extremely motivated after Giants corner called him a speed/deep guy. Look for multiple deep shots and double digit targets for both guys. If you want to go with a bit more value you can consider Crowder as well as he has caught 12 balls on 18 targets so far in 2016 with one touchdown. If you feel this game will be a shootout consider also starting a Giants wideout as it can correlate closely to winning a big tournament if game flow goes right. OBJ makes an excellent choice as it was Shepard who exploded last week for 100+ yards and a touchdown while Beckham was limited to 86 yards. The tough matchup vs. Norman may also send most people to other elite options on Sunday.
Stack #2 - Tennessee Titans vs. Oakland Raiders
QB - Marcus Mariota
Elite Options - Tajae Sharpe, Delanie Walker
Value Options - DeMarco Murray
Another value stacking option this week that will allow you to roster multiple studs at other positions creating a ton of upside. The Titans/Raiders game comes in tied with the highest Vegas Total(47) on the Sunday slate and Mariota is in an excellent spot vs. a weak pass defense. The Raiders have been atrocious to start the 2016 season allowing an average of 404 passing yards per game to opponents, which is over 50 more than any other defense. Until they show us they can stop the pass even a little, I will be targeting them week in and week out. Mariota has looked very good in the first two weeks completing 67% of his passes although they have been mainly din the dink and dunk form. He has what appears to be a future stud #1 receiver in Tajae Sharpe who has caught 11 passes on 18 targets through two weeks. Delanie Walker missed practice on Friday and is questionable to play on Sunday. His status probably won't be announced until after pre game warmups. If he starts he will be an elite tight end option this week. DeMarco Murray is another solid option, especially if Walker is out, who has out touched rookie Derrick Henry 25-12 in the run game and out targeted him 14-3 in the pass game.
Stack #3 - San Diego Chargers vs. Indianapolis Colts
QB - Philip Rivers
Elite Options - Travis Benjamin
Value Options - Tyrell Williams, Antonio Gates(if starting)
Punt Option - Hunter Henry(if Gates out)
It would be crazy not to mention the highest project scoring game of the Sunday slate. Right? I lean to the road team in this matchup due to game flow projections as the Colts sit as -2.5 favorites. The score could get out of hand as both teams have allowed 800+ total yards int eh first two weeks and this could feed directly in tot he hands of the passing games. Philip Rivers lacked pass attempts last week as the blowout fored them to go run heavy. He did, however, complete four touchdown passes and sits with a 70% completion rate in the first two weeks. The loss of Keenan Allen has opened the door for Travis Benjamin to breakout and he did just that last week catching all six balls thrown his way for 115 yards and two touchdowns. His price is starting to climb but still sits in a very affordable mid range on both sites. Take advantage before he is in the high mid to upper tier. Tyrell Williams could also be considered as a value option this week, especially on DraftKings where he holds a mid $4K price tag. He has received 11 targets through the first two games and caught his first touchdown last week. If Gates ends up playing he could be a low owned touchdown dependent option and if he sits Hunter Henry would become a nice punt option. Stay tuned for Gates status closer to game time.
Stack #4 - Baltimore Ravens vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
QB - Joe Flacco
Elite WR - Mike Wallace
Value Option - Steve Smith Jr, Dennis Pitta
Looking at the Player Lab tool we notice the Ravens/Jaguars game has a nice thin spread of -1 in favor of the Ravens with the second highest Vegas Total(47) on the slate. Joe Flacco is also projected to attempt the most passes which makes sense is there seems to be no run game in site for the Ravens. Another filter in the Player Lab I have been using a lot is the Opponents pace allowed. It calculates the average number of plays a defense allows the opposing offense per game. The Jaguars rank 3rd worst at 68.88 making it a perfect opportunity for a lot of volume through the air. Flacco has two very capable targets at wide receiver in veteran Steve Smith Jr.(8 catches on 15 targets) and newly reborn Mike Wallace(7 catches on 14 targets for 132 yards and 3 TD's). Dennis Pitta is also a great value play at the tight end position this week coming off an excellent game where he caught nine balls on 12 targets for 102 yards. Although the Ravens rank as the 2nd best defense against the pass, a nice correlation play would be to roster Allen Robinson with your Ravens stack should the game turn into a barn burner. Robinson should be very low owned due to recency bias and has all the talent in the world to blow up for 100+ yards and multiple touchdowns.
