Pitching Targets

Jeff Samardzija FD 9100 DK 9500
Opponent - SD (Friedrich) Park - @SD
FD - 31.08 DK - 20.98

We touched on Justin Verlander and Seth Lugo in the main picks article, and will now touch on a couple more guys that you can consider in both your tournaments and cash games. The first guy we are going to look at is Jeff Samardzija. Samardzija and the Giants will enter into Petco Park, which is one of the best pitcher parks in baseball. In that park, they will face off with the Padres, the worst team in the league against righties. Against righties, the Padres have sported a .279 wOBA that is backed up by a healthy BABIP and a very low hard contact rate. Samardzija has been great against both lefties and righties on the season, though he has been dominant against right handers. In over 100 innings, he has sported a .287 wOBA and a very nice set of batted ball rates and peripherals. He is pretty expensive on both sites, though he is cheaper than the elite guys and has just as much upside. I am a big fan of Samardzija in both cash games an tournaments, though I prefer him in cash games.

Michael Fiers FD 7300 DK 5600
Opponent - LAA (Nolasco) Park - @HOU
FD - 29.95 DK - 19.64

If you are looking for a cash game guy, look away, because this is far fro that. Micheal Fiers will be facing off with the Los Angeles Angels. While the Angels are an atrocious team, they don't strikeout much and Trout sometimes finds a way to single-handedly ruin the pitchers night. However, if Fiers is able to contain Trout and Pujols, he could be in for a very solid night. Fiers has been pretty good against right handers for a few seasons now, and as you know, the Angels stack a ton righties in their lineup. Fiers has actually been striking out a decent amount of guys as well, so if he is able to get a little bit lucky, he could bring you to the top of the tournaments. He is also cheap enough where you can fit an expensive stack in like the Indians or Pirates. We touched on a few stack to consider in the stack article, so make sure you go check it out. All in all, Fiers has a ton of upside and comes in at a price that lets you spend elsewhere. He could be the key to a tournament victory tonight. He could also be the reason I finish last. We will see..
