Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.
New York Mets vs. Jose Urena (Marlins)
Park - Citi Field
We only have 3 games on the docket, and in result, our stack options are not as lavish as usual. However, there are definitely some offenses that have potential to put up a ton of runs. One of those teams being the New York Mets. The Mets will be taking on the Marlins and Jose Urena, who is easily the worst pitcher on the slate. According to Vegas, the Mets are projected to score the most runs as 4.39, with the Cubs being second at a projected 4.17 runs. So far in 2016, Urena has sported a .352 wOBA against both righties and lefties thus far and his peripherals suggest no type of positive regression. The Mets have actually struggled a bit against righties, but are starting to look like the old Mets recently. With only 3 games on the slate, these guys are going to be very highly owned. In that case, I love the sneaky stack as it has nearly the same upside at a much lower ownership.
Main Stack - Jose Reyes, Yoenis Cespedes, Jay Bruce, Curtis Granderson
Sneaky Stack - Asdrubal Cabrera, Yoenis Cespedes, Jay Bruce, Travis D'Arnaud
Chicago White Sox vs. Ervin Santana (Twins)
Park - Target Field
The White Sox will be traveling to Minnesota and taking on the Twins in the hitter-neutral Target Field. While it is certainly a downgrade from U.S. Cellular, both Abreu and Frazier will have no problems if they connect with the ball. Their opponent, Ervin Santana, has been very average on the season. While his wOBA is quite impressive, his peripherals suggest we are going to see a whole bunch of negative regression very soon. While I don't think the White Sox are going to go crazy here, I think they have the 2nd best chance to do so, outside of the Mets. I also think a sneaky stack could be in play here as the ownership rates of the elite guys are going to be through the roof. That being said, Abreu and Frazier will be in every White Sox stack. If you want to make it sneakier, plug in those 2 guys and 2 more that are lower in the order.
Main Stack - Jose Abreu, Todd Frazier, Tim Anderson, Melky Cabrera
Sneaky Stack - Jose Abreu, Todd Frazier, Adam Eaton, Avisail Garcia
Opponent - MIN (Santana) Park - @MIN
FD - 31.81 DK - 21.24
We mentioned both Foltynewicz and deGrom in the main picks article, so the picking are pretty slim here. I can only recommend 1 more guy in my right mind, so I will not clog u the article with guys I wouldn't throw out there as well. Jose Quintana is a very underrated southpaw that is very effective against both sides of the plate. With a sub .320 wOBA against both righties and lefties, the handedness of these Twins bats don;t really worry. While the Twins have some decent power, they can also strikeout a ton and I wouldn't be surprised to see one of those games tonight. The big problem here is the price. If I am paying up, I will likely just go to deGrom, which will leave Quintana out of the mix. However, everyone else will be thinking like that, so we will be able to get some very low owned upside in tournaments. Though I definitely prefer deGrom, I see the merit in pivoting to Quintana.
