Daily Fantasy MLB Pitchers for FanDuel & DraftKings 8/31/16

Welcome to our new daily article breaking down some of the other pitching targets on this slate. We covered our system's top value plays in our daily picks article, but here we'll look at a bunch of other solid plays to consider.

In case you didn’t notice, we just released our brand new NFL DFS suite of tools including full projections, optimal NFL lineups and our Player Lab, which includes filters to help you create NFL lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings for any format. It’s a set of tools well beyond anything we’ve ever had, and something we feel will help our users *ahem* tackle the NFL season.

Pitching Targets

Note: We discussed Justin Verlander, Corey Kluber and Gio Gonzalez in the Main Article and will be going over a few more options below.

Pitching Targets

Michael FiersMichael Fiers FD 7800 DK 7000
Opponent - OAK (Detwiler) Park - @HOU
FD - 30.93 DK - 20.19

Outside of Justin Verlander on the early slate the pitching is pretty thin. You can definitely make a case for Mike Fiers today as the Astros are at home as -210 favorites while their opponent, the A's, are projected to score under 3.5 runs tonight. Fiers comes with average strikeout stuff(6.99 K/9) and a disappointing 4.19 xFIP limiting the upside but the A's rank in the bottom of the league in most offensive categories against right handed pitching. With limited options early combined with his low price he makes an excellent GPP option on FanDuel with the high win potential and a nice second pitcher option paired with Verlander or Sale on DraftKings.

David PhelpsDavid Phelps FD 6700 DK 8500
Opponent - NYM (Colon) Park - @NYM
FD - 27.61 DK - 18.23

Phelps creates a very interesting scenario in tonight's main slate. He is most definitely going to be low owned after his shortest outing as a starter against the Padres last Friday. He was pulled after 3.2 innings but wasn't actually that bad. He only allowed two hits while striking out six batters but was let down by his defense. What I like most about Phelps isn't the opportunity for low ownership in tournaments but the crazy upside he presents. Since jumping into the rotation in August he has an elite 11.84 K/9 rate despite walking over 3.5 batters per nine innings. If he can limit those free passes today against the Mets he should be able to crush his value, especially on FanDuel where comes in under $7K.
