Quarterback
Mike Reilly Edmonton 11,000
First of all, anytime you see the Saskatchewan Rough-Riders as a team's opponent for the upcoming week, we are going to be picking on them just a tad bit. Okay maybe a lot. The Riders are not good in any way. I know the Eskimos are a massive favourite but Reilly could easily exceed value before half time. Also last time these teams played it was a high scoring affair with Edmonton winning by only a field goal in overtime. If you think it will be a repeat of that game then he is a good tourney play, but for me he 's going to be exclusively my #1 cash game QB play of the week because of his high floor. He has two of the very best WR's in the league to throw to, and without his top RB this week, he will be forced to throw even more. This is great news for us as Mikey has thrown for a league best 355 passing yards per game, to go along with 14 TD's versus 6 interceptions, and has an average of 26.6 dk points per game. I'm not even going to show you any of the Riders' defensive stats because they are just simply brutal in every category. Reilly will be fairly highly owned this week but that's fine for cash games. Start him with confidence. Moving on.
Zach Collaros Hamilton 10,700
Wow what a couple of awesome games this guy has had. He was injured for the first 6 games, then comes in and starts tearing apart opposing defences. Last week he scored 38.2 dk points in a blowout vs Saskatechewan to give him an average of 32.9 dk points in his two starts. Collaros has thrown for 712 yards and 7 TD's vs 1 interception. Wow, that's pretty darn impressive. The reason he is not my top choice in cash games is because of the way Calgary has played on Defence in the last 3 games. They have given up a total of a measley 34 points in their last 3 performances, while allowing a total of 9 points vs BC's high powered offence, and 7 dk points to QB Jennings last week. But because of Reilly being a popular pick this week, I absolutely love Collaros for my tournament lineups. Hamilton's offence seems unstoppable right now. Pair him with one or two of the Ti-Cats WR's, and you could be in pretty good shape. This is not the week to even think about going cheap at the QB position. There is plenty of value elsewhere.
Running Back
Andrew Harris Winnipeg 7400
The CFL's leading rusher through 8 games should be well rested after his team had a bye last week. I didn't even think twice when selecting my top running back for this week's slate. He has ran for 505 yards and 3 TD's but my favourite thing about Harris is his role in the Blue Bombers' passing game. He has hauled in 34 of 40 passes for 290 yards and averages 17.2 dk points per game. Winnipeg has been much better since Nicholls took over at QB 3 games ago, and with a low total expected, the Bombers should feed Harris the ball early and often. He has a very high floor for cash games and because of the fact that Montreal allows a league worst 97 rushing yards per game gives him a ton of upside as well.
Stefan Logan Montreal 3900
This is a simple pick to fill one of your flex spots for your cash games this week. Harris will be in every single one of my lineups which makes it nice and simple this week. A running back who returns almost every kick, punt, and missed field goal is rare and at this price Logan is almost a must play. 1104 return yards, and 367 in his last two weeks for an average of 8.9 dk points is pretty impressive for a guy that very rarely plays on offence and has yet to score a TD. He's overdue for a score and that just sweetens the deal.
Shakir Bell Edmonton 4200
This pick is a bit of a shot in the dark, but with the Eskimos' starting half-back injured, Bell is the next man up. He has not appeared in a CFL game to this day but has taken 1st team snaps in practice all week, and has been announced as the starter vs the Rough-Riders who I don't have to talk about. I don't mind him as a flex option in cash games because of his low salary, and starting him at RB and surrounding him with a whole pile of stud receivers sounds like a good winning tournament strategy to me.
Wide Receiver
Adarius Bowman Edmonton 10,800
Derel Walker Edmonton 10,400
I just have to mention these two guys together, and they are at the top of the list week because their opponent is guess who? Yep the Saskatchewan Rough- Riders. How can you not envy Mike Reilly when he gets to throw to these two stars every single week. Bowman has caught 59 of 83 passes tossed his way for a reception % of 71.1 which is awesome given the high volume of targets. He leads the league in receiving yards with 875, average receiving yards per game with 109.4, and is tied for 2nd with 5 TD's.
Then there is Walker who's stats are almost identical, he's just been a little more inconsistent on a game to game basis. He has caught 58 passes on 82 targets for a reception % of 71.0. He is a close 2nd behind his teammate with 837 receiving yards, and an average of 104.6 yards per game and also has 4 TD's.
Bowman is my top choice at WR this week in cash games because of his consistency, and because of Walker's slight inconsistency, he will be my top choice for my tournament lineups. Don't worry too much about the blowout factor because CFL players remain in the game a lot longer than NFL players do because of the different rules and other factors.
Marquay McDaniel Calgary 8800
Man is the wide receiver postion on Draftkings stacked this week or what? McDaniel is the perfect choice for your cash game lineups week after week. Last week he seen 13 targets come his way while hauling in 10 of them for 80 yards, which was good for 18 dk points. In his two games before that he had 22 dk points in each game. That's been pretty much the story all year. Calgary has one of the best offences in the league and McDaniel's route running is so precise and pretty to watch. We should feel very confident about this guy.
Luke Tasker Hamilton 8600
And here we have another model of consistency for a receiver. He will be playing against McDaniel and the Stampeders. I'm not going to miss this barn burner. Two exciting offences are going at it and I want the two that have the highest floors possible. It doesn't get much better than these two. There's always upside possible as well of course. Tasker was targeted 12 times last week, which seems to becoming a normal occurrence with Collaros at the helm in Hamilton. He also dropped an easy TD pass which is rare for him as evident by his 76.5 reception %. He has averaged 20 dk points per game in the two games since Collaros returned from injury. While his teammates Owens, Toliver and maybe even Fantuz are good tourney plays, Tasker is the one to trust for your cash game lineups.
BJ Cunningham Montreal 5000
As I looked farther down the list for the most bang for our buck, I noticed Clarence Denmark is $1500 more expensive than he was last game. Yes he has been unreal in the two games he's played for the Bombers, but with all the injuries to Winnipeg's receivers, he is pretty much the only good receiver left on the squad. Montreal is going to do what it takes to shut him down this week, so that's why I am going with Cunningham at a very reasonable price of 5000 on dk. The Alouette's top WR Deron Carter is almost certain to be suspended this week, so that leaves Cunningham as the go to guy. He's nothing special but I'll think about using him in the odd lineup in all formats because of his average of 15 dk points in the last 3 weeks, and that was with Carter in the lineup. There's a bit of safety and a bit of upside in this pick. He should return value at this price
Quincy McDuffie Winnipeg 4000
Last but not least, this is my favourite value play in all formats this week, and he needs to be in one of your flex spots in every single one of your lineups. Yes he is the main kick/punt returner for his team, but I also just realized this fact. McDuffie is starting opposite Denmark this week. At this price he doesn't even have to be good, just good enough to catch a few balls here and there and keep raking up return yards, and that will be just fine. Trust me on this one. Play him everywhere.
Defence
Edmonton Eskimos 5100
I'm going to make this very easy. No stats. Just this one fact. They play Saskatchewan and are favoured by 13.5 points. See? Nice and easy. If you want a tourney play to get away from the masses, then go with Winnpeg or Montreal because of their low total and mediocre offences. Good luck everyone.
