Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.
Stack Targets
Seattle Mariners vs. Anthony Ranaudo (White Sox)
Park - U.S. Cellular Field
This is not a slate where I see the need to stack, to be honest. That being said, there is always a ton of merit in tournaments as you get a huge leg up if you are able to string together low owned production. The Mariners are a great team to target stack-wise as they seem to run hot and cold together. With Cano and Cruz obviously being the top bats, you always have a chance to string something huge together, no matter the inning. They will face off with Anthony Ranaudo tonight, who has been absolutely pitiful over the course of his entire career. With a .358 wOBA against righties and a .378 against lefties, there is absolutely no reason not to target the Mariners tonight. They are also receiving a huge ballpark upgrade as U.S. Cellular Field is regarded as one of the best parks in the league for both left handed and right handed power. While I do n;'t see the need to sneaky stack here, there is always a good reason in large field tournaments.
Main Stack - Seth Smith, Robinson Cano, Nelson Cruz, Kyle Seager
Sneaky Stack - Robinson Cano, Nori Aoki, Kyle Seager, Adam Lind
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Jered Weaver (Angels)
Park - Rogers Centre
Moving on to our second stack of the night, we are going to take a look at the Toronto Blue Jays. The powerful Jays offense will face off with Jered Weaver, who as we all know, is well over the hill. With a grooving 82 MPH fastball, the Blue Jays should have no problem getting the ball over the wall. If you took a look at the picks article, you saw a lot of Blue Jays bats and have therefore heard the whole reasoning. While the Jays are a very right handed heavy team, they hit righties just fine and there power is still very prevalent. Against righties, Weaver has given up a pitiful .380 wOBA that is backed up by an even more depressing 40% hard contact rate and 6.07 FIP. There is really nothing good to say about Weaver, besides the fact that he gives us a chance to roster bats against a AA talent level pitcher. The Blue Jays will likely be the highest owned stack of the night, and because of that, there is definitely a ton of merit in going off the board. The lineup has a ton of big bats and the point count just the same if they hit a home run in the 7 spot. Do not overthink it, get some exposure to this offense.
Main Stack - Devon Travis, Jose Bautista, Josh Donaldson, Edwin Encarnacion
Sneaky Stack - Jose Bautista, Josh Donaldson, Troy Tulowitzki, Michael Saunders
