Pitching Targets
Note: We discussed Jon Lester and Stephen Strasburg in the Main Article and will be going over a few more options below.
Pitching Targets
David Price FD 10000 DK 11000
Opponent - TB (Snell) Park - @TB
FD - 38.78 DK - 25.69
Jon Lester is the clear-cut cash game play of the day, but there are a few intriguing options that I like for tournaments. And the first guy on the list is, David Price.
David Price has had another David Price year. Sure, his ERA is 4.19, but his peripherals suggest that he's having another great year. He's sporting a 3.42 xFIP, to go along with a 24.0 K% and 3.54 SIERA. Not only is he cheaper than Lester, but he also draws a matchup that could make him the pitcher with the most fantasy point on the night.
Today, he's going back home! He will be pitching at pitcher-friendly Tropicana Park, to take on the Rays. On the year, the Rays haven't been all that against southpaws. They're sporting a .315 wOBA (22nd in MLB) and a 98 wRC+ (19th in MLB). Not only have they had some trouble against southpaws, but they also own a whooping 25.5 K% (highest in MLB) against them. This matchup sets Price up to do a whole lot of fanning, so I wouldn't be surprised if he hit double-digit strikeout numbers tonight. He's an excellent GPP play.
Carlos Carrasco FD 10300 DK 11500
Opponent - OAK (Triggs) Park - @OAK
FD - 34.79 DK - 22.92
Next on the list we have, Carlos Carrasco.
Carrasco draws a stellar matchup going up against the A's. Yes, they own an 18.6 K% on the year, but Carrasco does own a 24.6 K%. In other words: Don't worry so much about the A's not striking out a ton, because Carrasco does some fanning of his own! Instead, lets focus on this beautiful matchup.
The A's have struggled all season long, especially against northpaws. On the year, they are boasting a .304 wOBA (26th in MLB) and .152 ISO (23rd in MLB). They have struggled hitting for power and average this year, and playing at the Oakland Coliseum certainly won't help their cause. This is another guy that will go under-the-radar with Lester on the bump, so he's an excellent play in GPP's. I would even use him in cash games, if you're looking to save money or your gut is telling you not to go with Lester.
Jameson Taillon FD 7500 DK 9100
Opponent - HOU (Fister) Park - @PIT
FD - 32.47 DK - 21.38
Looking for a SP2 with some upside tonight, then Jameson Taillon is your guy. Not only does he have Vegas on his side with a (-155) money line, but his matchup against the Astros, is also intriguing. On the year, the Astros are in the middle of the pack against right-handed pitchers. That may not be that appealing, but their K% sure is. This season, they own a whooping 23.8 K% (3rd in MLB) against righties. He's reasonably priced and has a chance to rack up the K's, against a streaky offense.
Taillon is a young-buck, but he's been excellent. In the big leagues, he's boasting a 16.4 K-BB%, 1.09 WHIP and 3.22 xFIP. He's been everything the Pirates have hoped for, so go ahead and give him shot. He's got a matchup with upside and has looked great this season. He's also pitching at home (a pitcher-friendly park). He's got many things working to his advantage.
So yeah, baseball season! And we've got some goodies you can take with you. At the end of the post, we have our MLB eBook that you really ought to check out before setting even a single daily fantasy MLB lineup. It's free, below.
