A quick heads up - we post an updates article every day in the early afternoon, EST, to catch everyone up on how things are changing as a result of whatever news has come through. We also have great talks in the comments of that article. Hope to see you there!
Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.

Stack Targets

Chicago Cubs vs. Tyler Anderson (Rockies)
Park - Coors Field

This one isn't as obvious as it seems with the early forecast showing some chances of delay at the start of the game due to rain. If rain were to delay the start of the game it could very well push the ownership down making either of these teams an elite stack tonight. As always we will have to stay tuned to the weather as the game approaches.

I side with the Cubs over the home team Rockies as they get the better matchup vs. southpaw Tyler Anderson making another start at home after impressing early on with a low 3.04 ERA in Coors. Without anything more than an average K rate(7.48 K/9) I can't see the trend continuing in Coors, especially against the Cubs who rank 3rd in wOBA(.347) and first in wRC+(115) against left handed pitching. The top options to stack are going to be Dexter Fowler, Kris Bryant, Ben Zobrist and Javier Baez who all crush left handed pitching. I also don't think Anderson will be in the game long so going with Anthony Rizzo isn't a bad idea as he should get plenty of opportunities vs. right handed bullpen pitching.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Tim Adleman (Reds)
Park - Great American Ballpark

We don’t jokingly call it Great American Smallpark for nothing. Cincinnati plays great for boosting power across the board and ranks really only behind Coors in terms of home run park factors. The Dodgers come in facing Tim Adleman. Adleman hasn’t pitched much in the majors, but when he has it’s been bad. He comes in with a 4.86 xFIP and a walk rate a little north of five per nine. There isn’t much K upside to speak of which puts the Dodgers in a fantastic spot and still coming cheaper across the board. He’ll have a tough time with the top of the lineup featuring Chase Utley, Corey Seager who crushes righties over the last two seasons to a .950 OPS, and a reverse platoon Justin Turner. It doesn’t get any easier after that with Adrian Gonzalez (.850 OPS v LHP) and Josh Reddick (.838 OPS). This is all to say, Adleman could be in real trouble in this one. The Dodgers come in with one of the higher implied run totals on the day and are still coming on the cheaper side all around.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Adam Morgan (Phillies)
Park - Citizen’s Bank Park

Adam Morgan’s had a rougher go of it in the majors. In 153 Big League innings he’s got a 4.93 xFIP which thankfully is better than the 5.45 ERA. He’s been unlucky, but he hasn’t really been any good either. The Cardinals come in a good spot with a definite ballpark power boost moving from St. Louis and a lineup featuring some righties who could give Morgan trouble. While not strict value plays, I do see the Cardinals as an interesting tournament stack. Stephen Piscotty has crushed lefty pitching over the last couple of seasons with a ridiculous .408 wOBA in that split. With the Cardinals also struggling on the injury front we could see Tommy Pham near the top of the order coming on the cheap. And Jhonny Peralta helps round out the SS position. These are plug and plays with some of the close decisions coming after the Cards release their lineup.

  1. I’m having so much trouble trying to play DK. The most I’ve won is $3 in any given tournament. Is there any advice on ho I need to pick my players?

    • If you are just starting play double ups and 50/50s to build some cash. Tournaments are much harder to win.
